How do you get the gun?

There should be two caves with some large troll looking fellows in them. One asks you to deliver a letter, and the other receives it. You'll get the gun as soon as you deliver the letter.

I’m losing my mind, I can’t find the damn silk. I’m assuming the end of some cave is going to give me silk, but I’ve gone out 5 times with 15 meat and I just end up running through the same caves again
Edit: of course I find it immediately after this. There are two “lab” areas. They look similar, but they aren’t the same.
