- Hurricane Helene strengthened to a dangerous Category 4 on Thursday as it neared Florida's Big Bend area, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell leads a special report.

Thank you for your kind words. I live south of Gainesville FL and the wind is fierce. A very heavy rain is projected in a few hours. Fortunately, we do not live near the Gulf/ocean so no storm surge for us.

I would never want to live in Florida. They are the ones who so often bear the brunt of Atlantic hurricanes.
It’s not so bad if you are prepared and live a bit inland from the coast. I would be scared to death to drive on icy and snowy roads all winter 😂

@@grogery1570 The state funds an insurer of last resort so the liability belongs to the taxpayers. There'll be a state of emergency declaration very soon, if not already, and Florida will need to reach out to the feds to pay for the damage so that the state doesn't become insolvent.

Why are news reporters allowed to go into dangerous locations? Do they become superhuman when they get their "reporter badge"? They are just as vulnerable as all other humans. Putting themselves into dangerous weather or war situations is foolish and unnecessary.

I have two questions about this breaking Special Report. One; who is the person throwing the three sprays of water in front of the camera? Is it the camera man or another assistant? Question two; how does second reporter interview evacuees that left Florida when he is in Florida? OK. Three questions. When you say the hurricane is the strongest to hit the US since last year, do you mean since last hurricane season?

I'm happy to be in the NYC area. Say what you want, we don't have the Republicans saying there's no global warming (which's why the hurricanes/ storms are worse), the hurricanes that constantly go thru the area, need cars to really do anything, nor insurance companies running away.
Having said that, I'm praying that people listen(ed) to evacuation warnings & are being safe, along with definitely TAKING YOUR DOGS, CATS, & OTHER ANIMALS.

Yeah. I'm a Florida native. We have hurricane season every year for 6 whole months. I agree, it's a big storm, headed for an area not well -equipped to handle it, but that statement was very dramatic. 🙄
