The end of a project years in planning, months in execution. So many hundreds of people involved, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people who have supported it via their viewership and donations - it’s a wonderful thing to see so much support for preserving our history.
It's a truly fitting shot of Ryan on New Jersey's graceful bow. My brother and I had the pleasure to speak to him when we did the 2024 drydock tour. The man told us he loves his job as curator and loves BB62.
While I'm sad that i missed her by the slimmest of margins, I'm super happy that we have all the videos from this trip. Thank you Ryan and all of the BBNJ staff and volunteers for making this happen and recording it.
It's always a great sight to see a ship that came in covered in growth looking like new when she takes to the water . Everyone involved can feel a sense of pride . It's truly remarkable that this project has been possible .
Wonderful work. The shots in this video really do justice to how narrow the bows of the Iowa class Battleships are. Even as a young teenager visiting the Missouri In Bremerton I was astounded that the bow was so narrow compared to the other ships I had visited.
Ryan currator, Ambassador & walking encloypidia for the battle ship New Jersey please take a well deserved vacation after she is docked & reopened in her Camden berth. Drove down early Sunday morning to take some pictures of her. Looks a lot bigger the closer you get to her.
Maybe soon I'll make my way to see her and running out of time.😅 I was so close to seeing her but was there in Orange County New Jersey restoring the power grid after Super Storm Sandy. Funny thing is I came from Orange County Texas and was there for 17 days but when your in storm restoration mode you're exhausted from long days of grinding but I made a lot of people happy when the lights came on and will never forget the good people that treated us like family. They overwhelmed us with food and kindness. The City gave us a Coin and said if we ever wanted to come back we were welcome to❣️❣️❣️ If in when where would be a great hotel to stay in??? We stayed in the Bogata Hotel while we were there and it was awesome. Im retired now and 65 years old but I would very much like to see her❤❤❤
I was in the Navy at MOT Bayonne, and our drydock usually had someone in it. Ivariably, yard time SUCKS for sailors. Getting out in 77 days is a minor miracle, but, if she gets out of DD without anyone going to mast, that IS a REAL ACCOMPLISHMENT!
Insane work. Watching every second of this from Europe. U.S Battleships are really " something". Wish you luck in years to come. Will definitely visit one of IOWA class ships but unfortunately will have to pick the one thats more easily accessible to foreigners . That would be IOWA itself due to location of nearest airport.
Cheers TesGon. Not sure where you are in Europe, Im from the States and have toured USS Wisconsin. Wanted to send some positive vibes back in your direction as I toured HMS Belfast a few weeks ago on vacation. She's a classy ship. Loved it
If I was a guest on the first leg I would definitely help with dewatering work just because how many people would be able to say, I helped float a battleship.
Very exciting! Just guessing, but if there wasn't a limit to the number of people on the ship for the tow, it would be packed! I would come down there from WI myself for the ride. My only chance ever to ride a battleship.
A limited number of guests can ride aboard the Battleship when she leaves the Paulsboro Marine Terminal and heads back to her Pier at the Camden Waterfront on June 20. Only 15 guests per trip. Tickets are a $5,000 donation per person per trip.
It's too bad that the ship will go back in the murky water. It would be nice to have this ship in a special dock flooded with clear water and have a way to see the hull under water.
Now that would be good. Water could be tested to provide least damage to the hull. She'd be in water so no sagging and we could see all of her. You got my vote on that one. Erm Ryan we have an idea.......
I wonder if there were any projects that they would have liked to have done if they had gotten more money. Also how exactly does someone like Ryan pay the ship yard? A big multi million dollar check, a cashier check, cash in one dollar bills???
Did work get done on the cathodic protection at the berth while the ship was away? I remember a video where Ryan said that had nearly wasted away, and it seems to be well worth the money as none of the anodes on the ship had suffered damage.
Yes, the zinc nodes were replaced with aluminum because the ship is in mostly fresh water (Aluminum) than salt water (Zinc). The mounting studs were cut off, replaced, taped over during painting and then the nodes were installed
No, I meant the protection that they have at her home berth. They have some sort of large cathodic anode in the river that's not directly attached to the hull, I can't remember what Ryan called it. But in a video about the anodes on the ship being replaced exactly like you're talking about, he mentioned some cathodic protection system on the riverbed underneath the ship when it's at their home pier.
Leak-testing all the blanking plates was one of the big projects over the dry-dock period. They put a port into each blanking plated, pressurized it with air, closed it, then checked the pressure after 15 minutes. If it held pressure, it was airtight, and then they welded each port shut.
I get that but you had a multi thousand ton ship sitting on itself and putting pressure on seams that need to be checked after refloating not just blanks
You keep referring to the sides of the ship as the freeboard. Free hard is a measurement not an item. The sides of the ship would be called "the sides of the ship" or if you prefer "the hull above the waterline".
"In sailing and boating, a vessel's freeboard is the distance from the waterline to the upper deck level, measured at the lowest point of sheer where water can enter the boat or ship." - Wikipedia.
@@admiralmallard7500 yeah I just got to that part on the other video, the overview one, thanks though shame really, but I guess if they ever recommission her, that's where that year and some change is going to be spent getting her ready for action again
It helps with vibration. And they essentially have different roles, the 4 blade props give you more power while the 5 bladed props give you more speed.
What if the Russian ships entering Cuba were the results of battleship New Jersey coming out of dry dock. I think the Iowa class battleships made their mark during active service.
Hey Ryan! You are not filming. There is no film involved. You are using an electronic camera. You are RECORDING on MEMORY media. This is the 21st Century. Otherwise, great job!
@@admiralmallard7500 that's not the problem. Problem is that the navy will take the ship back and give it to another museum or if they can't find one scrap it.

Congratulations on a safe and very successful yard period. And thanks for all you do to maintain this marvelous ship.

Marvellous! I support Texas as my grandkids are Texan but I absolutely love this battleship. Well done
The end is in sight, and then Ryan can finally get a good night sleep.
Many years from now an elderly Ryan will pass away. His last words will be "Battleship New Jersey receives....."
Saint Peter will pipe Ryan aboard with countless sailors and Marines standing tall at the ready
He’s a consummate professional; he’d absolutely make it to the end of the plug

….Also from a number of other businesses and private individuals like yourselves.
If I ever met him instead of saying bye id just stare blankly for a second then go into "Batlleship NJ recieves"
Congratulations on a job WELL DONE!

I am glad she has her props/screws. Looks like they are paint protected now too. I wish Texas still had her shafts and props/screws oh well.
I think they were removed because different metals together causes one of them to corrode.
What an awesome camera angle looking towards the bow!
Great to see NJ ready !
Well done to all involved.

She’s looking like a beaut, Can’t wait to come see her with her new shine!

Ride-along tickets? Now I wish I were in New Jersey, instead of west coast.

nice, all the barnacles scraped off, all holes filled with marine putty, a new paint job and it is ready to go into the water again.
Love the shot looking up at the knife-edge bow / from the bulb up.
Dang, but that shot at 1:30 is fantastic
Good luck & God's speed with the refloat and transit!!
You are a National Treasure sir.
Good luck reopening the ship to visitors.
I could listen to Ryan pronounce the word “museum” all day long ❤
Planning on driving down the 20th to watch it sail by.
Can’t believe almost done
Congrats Ryan!
Take a marker and sign your name on the bottom of the ship before it goes back into the water
Wonder if Ryan and the BB crew is having a blast with the ship in drydock, or are they anxious to ger her back in Camden.
Fair winds & following seas back home for BB62, Ryan & her crew, safe journey to all.🙏🇨🇦👍

What's a weeping rivet and what did you do to make it cry?
That's awesome, but is it money well spent.
Stopped by here after seeing Bob the Raptor's video in the drydock today.
How long will the new decking be good for in its current role as a Museum Ship?
Probably Ryan means Eastern Daylight Time, not Standard.
Wow
Sorry Ryan, we're on Daylight time, not Standard time. We knew what you meant.
It would be great if you could have the workers sign a large plate and place it on the ship so people could see it
JB weld
Who was or will be the last person to touch the underside?
Is it a trick question because the answer is "divers"?
We won't have divers for the refloat
As one who has been ready to put a boat in the water and noticed the drain plug out, All the air test ports are sealed, right????
Ryan needs to receive some sort of honorary metal for his duty to the ship above and beyond the call of duty
fireworks... a guy can launch a lot of bottle rockets, and mortars out of those gun barrels.
I'm not paying and the cops can't keep me off the river.
How do you check all the spaces for water integrity before leaving? Or do you?
Leak-testing all the blanking plates was one of the big projects over the dry-dock period. They put a port into each blanking plated, pressurized it with air, closed it, then checked the pressure after 15 minutes. If it held pressure, it was airtight, and then they welded each port shut.

Any reason the props weren't polished? Cost? Of course if the water it sits in is murky no one would be able to see them anyway.
Park the ship in backwards for a short period. That will get every ones attention.
Can't wait for the goose-butt video, whoops I meant the slow motion refill vid.

Why the 5 and 4 bladed props?
i would submit for balance and vibration
One for efficiency and one for power, if I remember correctly.
