When you convert the text to a smart object, is it still a vector? I’m trying to create a text based logo for a friend, and I would like it to be a vector image, but I only have Photoshop :/
Pixel & Bracket thanks for your reply. i tried keeping the text editable and applying the layer mask, and it worked. however, when i tried to export it as an svg, the layer mask went away. i ended up cutting the portion of the text i wanted, creating a path out of the outline of the text, then turning it into a shape. took me hours of trying different things, lol.

yes! as long as the text is still editable it is vector

I don’t think I’ve ever exported an svg from photoshop haha. I usually leave that for illustrator
