There's something cathartic about watching Sonic get beat up. But Jesus! Surge was strangling him underwater while electrocuting him. Dude was literally dead for a few seconds.
Every once in a while, I try to think about how Sonic would react to Surge and the more I think about it, the less I'm convinced it would've gone down the way it does. Surge wants everything to end because of what she went through. She's essentially victim blaming even tho in THIS very arc, she's putting people in danger and exploiting the powers of living creatures to fuel her one sided "revenge" against someone who's considered a HERO. Who's saved more lives than I can count. So, what? Because he's tangentially related with your creation and suffering, that's somehow HIS fault? That's my problem with this arc, cuz she's so caught up in her bitterness and vengeance, that she never gets to reflect on her actions. She doesn't get this moment to think "Am I doing the same things Starline did?" "Is Sonic really to blame for stopping Eggman?" Maybe Sonic would wish she would change, but less in a "I gotta convince her to switch sides!" and more of a "It's sad it has to be this way." but if Surge wants to squabble, he'll be there any day of the week.
I don't know why, but Sonic's face when Surge fainted was really funny, my bro was about to tell Maria that Shadow was being a jerk the whole story, the gates of heaven were right there in front of him.
The issue I believe this Sonic has isn’t that he’s trying to change his enemies, he’s done that before. The issue is that he’s WAY too pushy about it. He goes on and on and on about how they can change, to the point where he sounds pretentious.
Yea he’s like obsessed with it lol I think they’re trying to have something going on for Sonic’s character and it just doesn’t work imo cuz they never really fully commit to it either
53:00 You’ve got to be kidding me- LITERALLY what accountability? Kit is not right here at all. Sonic shouldn’t feel accountable for a single thing Kit said.
"You just wanna prove your way is right" No, Kit, he just doesn't want anyone to fucking die. I am so sick of these so-called moral quandaries in media because at the end of the day the distinction between good and bad isn't complex. Now, whether SPECIFIC ACTIONS tow that line or definitively fall into one of the two parties can get complicated, but GOOD AND BAD IN GENERAL is VERY EASY to define. Good is agency. Aside from survival, personal agency is a human being's #1 priority in their existence. They want the freedom to choose their own fate. This is why we attempt to find ways to EXTEND our lifespans, ways to prevent others from cutting off our opportunities, the things we feel we've earned, etc.. It is perfectly fine to exercise your own personal agency SO LONG AS in doing so you don't take away OTHER PEOPLE's personal agency. This is where the line-towing comes in-how much is "too much" to take the agency from one who would take agency from others? But, thankfully, Sonic doesn't delve into these questions. Sonic KEEPS it simple. Sonic is on the side of good because he is on the side of freedom. Eggman is on the side of bad because he is on the side of oppression. This has never been about "proving who's right"-both Sonic AND Eggman are aware of who is right and who is wrong, and agree on it, too. Eggman openly admits to things like preferring wins where he cheats to get ahead, enjoying dominating others and causing suffering for his plans, so on, so forth. He will NEVER sincerely say that he is in "the right." So I have NO FUCKING IDEA where Kit is getting the idea that either of them seek validation through converting Kit and Surge. Sonic wants good people to fight the good fight with the other good people, and live in peace. Eggman wants the opposite. They are both trying to further their goals, yes-but SONIC’S GOAL IS DIRECTLY BENEFICIAL TO EVERYONE IN GENERAL, while Eggman’s is not only exclusively beneficial to HIMSELF, but directly DISBENEFICIAL to EVERYONE ELSE. I understand how Kit could be losing his mind or something, but hearing someone AGREE with him here is just asinine.
He is right though. Sonic's conflict with Eggman has done a lot of collateral damage; from the war in Sonic Forces all the way to the Metal Virus. And whether or not you think which side is right or wrong is irrelevant; Morality in Mobius is dictated by those who have the power to control it, and guess who had the power to do just that?

@@markquezasbury1372 EGGMAN doing what EGGMAN wants is what causes the collateral damage. How the hell is any of Forces Sonic's fault after he got pulled up on, outsped for the first time ever, knocked out, kidnapped, and then held in captivity and tortured for 6 months? What was he supposed to do? You can make the argument of "well maybe Sonic is harming people by letting Eggman get away after he's stopped," and yes, I get that, I'm not going to discourage that line of thinking. But one thing you CANNOT say is that he does MORE harm than good. He stops problems that have literally nothing to do with his actions or inactions at all (remember the Storybook series?) Morality is morality. It is not controlled by any individual. As sapient beings, what is "moral" is what we, as a collective, value, regardless of upbringing. ALL of us, regardless of background, monetary status, occupation, birthplace, race, sex, etc. care about our personal agency, which tells us that this is not a value we have been instilled with by anyone's design, but a value, or rather, THE value, that we naturally have, and so protecting that value is the crux of morality. Eggman is anti-freedom. That is his ENTIRE thing. He is anti-morality, he does not believe for even a SECOND that he is doing the right thing, he REVELS in knowing that he is doing the WRONG thing.

Is the comic "self aware" because the clearly delusional morally wrong and unfairly biased characters agree with your points? Isn't that working against Your argument?
How can you say Kit is morally wrong when he's utilizing his freedom to do what he wants? Sonic has been preaching throughout the comic that everyone has the freedom to do whatever they want, yet it has to be under his terms? Sounds like a contradiction.
This arc had me on the edge of my seat.I felt so bad for Surge, all she wanted was to know her past Starline took away her, and she believes that Sonic's death would give her peace. What exactly were you not expecting from this fight?
As weird as it seems, I don't think Sonic is acting out of character in IDW. I think the issue is the story constantly having to make him explain not offing anyone. He's essentially in the same position as batman except in a lot of cases batman's moral code is a focal point of his stories, rather than it just be a narrative device to justify a villain's antagonism (like with surge).
I think the reasoning you just gave is valid but because they’re putting Sonic in these situations it causes for some out of character type dialogue. Which now creates 2 problems, the stories not feeling like “Sonic the hedgehog” stories AND Sonic himself says things that’s out of character
@@LocalTrapTV I'm not gonna pretend it doesn't feel out of place, I just hope that because Surge is now an establish part of the cast, we won't see that side of sonic again lmao
