Story:
One morning in The Nether, a Strider family wakes up and praises their daughter before heading off to help Hoglins get from place to place. Eventually the daughter of the family wakes up, finding the Nether Warp Mushroom they offered her whilst she was still peacefully sleeping. She later becomes curious in a Nether Portal she has inadvertently come across, and decides to see what surprises await her on the other side. But soon she regrets it; it is awfully chilly compared to the climates she is used to in The Nether. Lava is scarce, and on top of that, nothing looks familiar to her other than the shape of the surrounding trees. She shivers from what for her is the cold, considering she lives in The Nether, and also out of fear.
Meanwhile a bunch of children in the nearby village are having battle contests with their animals to see who is victorious. When both animals come to a draw, both villager children agree defeatedly that they have received a stalemate. So, they go out looking for other animals to pit against each other. That’s when they see the young Strider who is now ashamed of her previous decisions, now alone and afraid. The two become curious in her and try to pit her against another animal, however aggression is not part of a Strider’s regular habits, *especially* not when this young. Therefore, she shudders and kneels to the ground in a submissive, defeated-looking expression as she cannot bring herself to fight for temperamental reasons. The villager children and another man look after the young Strider from that point forwards while trying to predict how exactly has she ended up in this predicament, and where she might be from.
They offer her cooked fish, but Striders are herbivorous, not carnivorous. Otherwise, they’d either be seen actively hunting prey or scavenging off of the leftovers from another carnivore’s meal. Therefore, she rejects the offer, despite the good deeds within it. They notice her walk into the fire that they have cooked the fish from. Unexpectedly to the villagers, she does not burn or get harmed like most other animals, but rather cozies up inside of it, as it reminds her of The Nether, which to her is a heaven, which is in contrast to our beliefs on The Nether.
It is at this moment in which they realize she would be even more comfortable if she was provided with some lava, so they take her to a nearby lavapool, and she joyously “Strides” across it (bad pun is bad pun, my apologies). The villagers rate her skills a 10/10 despite her most likely being a beginner at the hobby. This seems to encourage her to continue.
Meanwhile in The Nether, the two Striders return home to find that their daughter has not only slipped out of their non-existent hands, but also The Nether in and of it’s entirety. They are unaware that she has left The Nether, but knows she has to have gone far, and start making their signature call to see if she can’t hear them before they find her. But little do they know that she is *nowhere near where she will be able to hear them.*
Back at the village, the man decides he is getting concerned for the tiny Strider’s safety, as he doesn’t know what harms her and what doesn’t. What if fish is actually poisonous to her and that’s why she rejected it? He has no way of knowing. At this moment, he turns on his computer and looks through the snapshots for each update.
It is at this moment where he almost skids over a snapshot of an update in which the first Strider sightings in The Nether are shown. Only is it now where he finally starts to see what’s been happening this entire time. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together in his head, he remembers how the young Strider was near a deactivated Nether Portal when he laid eyes upon her. He also recalled that the reason it was deactivated was because it was partially dismantled, missing one of the required obsidian blocks needed for it to open, hence preventing her from returning. After all, she didn’t have arms or hands to go and put it back, so it was no wonder she was so desperate when they found her.
It was at this point that the man realized of how valuable obsidian is, and that he must be hasty if the Strider wishes to return to The Nether. So he heads back to the sight he found the Strider, only to find that a merchant has already picked up the missing block and is now attempting to sell it off. It takes until a fish is offered to a deal with an already increasing amount of emeralds before the merchant finally gives up reluctantly and hands the block over. Only is it now that the Strider has a chance at return. The man places the block back in its position and reactivates the portal.
As soon as this is done, he returns back to the house, where the 2 villager children are still comforting their Strider accomplice. He tells everyone to walk her over to the portal, where they then give a last goodbye. A good thing too, as had it rained, her life would be put at risk as Striders are water-intolerant creatures, as it harms them. Luckily they can always drink lava when thirsty. She goes through the portal, meanwhile on the other side, her parents, who by this point barely still hold any hope in finding her, get curious when the same portal that a Magma Cube/Slime has lead them towards suddenly opens. They walk through, and because the teleport is slightly delayed, their daughter returns sooner than they reach The Overworld.
Their daughter therefore returns to The Nether without them and gets confused, therefore causing her to stop in place. It doesn’t take the man who helped return to realize that they must’ve been at the portal when it opened, which must have caused a miscommunication as they must not have realized what it was. He goes back to check, and gives them the push in the right direction they’re looking for. Only now do they reunite with their daughter, as well as offer her two more Nether Warp Mushrooms that the Hoglins rewarded them with as takeout for the kind service. The heartwarming tale ends as the three Striders are seen returning to the place from which this all started - home.
