That to me is the most glaring issue with Raw today: there's simply nothing important going on during the episode. Whether a match, a promo, an angle or whatever, everything on the show is just "meh".

Cornette is totally correct, but it definitely is a script in WWE. Read one of those...they have lines of dialogue. That is script.
But that is where Vince is so damned skittish now. They are so scared to death that anyone doing a promo off the top of their head will offend somebody. That’s Stephanie’s bullshit influence. For wrestling to have another awesome era, it has to be allowed to breathe, and the wrestlers have to be allowed to build the story. Build a FORMAT again.

Yeah, I think that may be the one thing Corny may not fully get here. WWE is the way it is because they're not trying to produce a "wrestling show" as he understands it, but rather a television show that happens to feature some wrestling. They don't tell people to get themselves over because that's not what they want, but rather they treat wrestlers like written characters in any other scripted TV show.
I don't see that formula changing unless and until the wheels completely fall off and these shows become unprofitable. For better or worse, the mainstream pro wrestling business is about producing television shows now. That's also why promotions like AEW can have silly things, because they're not bound by the constraint of what could credibly happen in a "real fight", but rather like any TV show have their own set of parameters for their fictional universe and setting.

What is worse is we won't get a good match out of Goldberg vs Roman because the former can't go 3 minutes without getting winded or exhausted. There is also no way they will slow down the pace for his case since the time will most likely go to Lesnar vs McIntyre. It will be so brutally slow that most people will tune out of fail to pay attention when McIntyre finally wins.

I think whenever Triple H takes over the creative team things will be better. First of all he's gonna trust more his team of producers (Michaels, Road Dogg, Regal, Borash, Heyman, Cole, Jarrett...) and judging by what NXT has been doing, more people will be featured and they'll have a chance to get over. On NXT, guys like Cameron Grimes, Damian Priest, Killian Dain or The Forgotten Sons are featured on TV just as often as Keith Lee, Dijakovic, Gargano, Ciampa, Finn Balor, Velveteen Dream, Riddle, Dunne or the whole Undisputed Era. And the same goes for the women, Ripley is the champion but we see plenty of Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, Tegan Nox, Dakota Kai, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim and more recently the likes of Chelsea Green, Shotzi Blackheart, Toni Storm, Deonna Purrazzo and Santana Garrett. If Vince allowed him, Triple H and his people could do the same thing with Raw and Smackdown.

20 years, 10 years, hell even 5 years back there always seemed to be multiple angles that made the show entertaining from start to finish. And characters we could get behind. Today not so much. Nobody knows how to build characters anymore, or get them over. Jim is right. Writing for wrestling is much different than trying to write for Hollywood.
If there is a piece of paper with lines on, that some talent is supposed to repeat live or in a video package, it's a script.
Please go back to 2 hours. The show was actually watchable. I spend more time now on fast forward than I do watching matches. It’s absolutely terrible

Cornette should be in charge of Smackdown like Heyman is in charge of Raw. Both shows would flourish!
Cornette doesn't want anything to do with any wrestling promotion anymore and for good reason. He even had problems in the NWA and he hates a lot more things about modern wrestling and its presentation. He has complained about the power and influence the TV networks have (be that TNT, USA, Spike...), he doesn't like how people get easily offended these days, he doesn't like even the structure of the matches (not only in WWE, also in AEW, Impact and ROH), the role of the referees, the excess of moves, the lack of psychology, the look and size of the wrestlers, the amount of time given to women...and many more things. I think his ideas would make wrestling in general much better but they are really hard to implement because there are too many cooks in the kitchen and too many people to please (the network executives, the advertisers, the investors, interest groups, casual and hard-core fans equally...and there's a lot of people on Twitter, UA-cam and different blogs and podcasts willing to tear you a new one if you don't cater to their specific wishes.
@azart61 on that specific case I'm torn because on one hand I want trans people to have the same opportunities as cis-gender people but on the other hand I believe the International Olympic Committee doesn't allow trans women to participate in women's sports, I remember there was a big problem with a runner who was suspected to be actually a male competing against females who was disqualified or something and that created a lot of controversy. I'm not sure if that's the right policy or not but what I do know is that I want wrestling to be presented as a sport. It's staged fighting and it has pre-determined results but in its universe it should be presented as a sport. If it is a sport it should follow the pattern of regulated sports, so until the rules change for them, a trans woman should not compete with cis women in wrestling. It's the same reason why I'm against intergender marches, because you don't see in UFC or Bellator a man fight a woman and you don't see it in boxing either. If the rules change in those sports I'm all for doing the same in wrestling, but in the meantime I can't say it's all good.
WWE : Lots of amazing talent produced in such a god awful way that it makes everything look like shit.
AEW: Lots of shit talent but they seem to actually know how to present pro wrestling on television.

Have the wrestlers, staff, management, and the McMahon family each in different rooms and watch a video. This video will contain past wrestlers, kids, and older men and women giving thier honest opinion about wwe from what they loved before to now. And what they believe that can fix it. If it sounds like a intervention that's because it is. Vince needs to see what has become of wwe to wake up and hopefully cause change.
He needs to see who's loyal and willing to go down in flames with wwe if that happens and who there for a paycheck. Some wrestlers need to told where they stand on the card and to improve or do the best they can in that position. If they don't like it they can leave. Not every needs to be at wrestlemania. You don't see all 42 teams of the NFL at the super bowl. So the same rule applies here. The sponsors and investors that are holding wwe back need to go. Wwe can find new ones who would help more or be willing to understand the need of change. Have former wrestlers or referees or people who have been in the business a long time or have extensive experience be in high rank positions to guide and help the future talent and let that be a cycle. And then when all is said and done then address the wwe and fans with a message. A cure for the new common show if u will. Have not just Vince but Steph and hunter out there. And eventually fix things piece by piece
The problem is it doesn't really matter what more people like, just what makes the most money, and contrary to popular belief those two things are not necessarily the same.
WWE gets a ton of money for their TV shows, in large part precisely because they are formatted how they are. Until that changes, neither will WWE's creative direction.

1. In my country (and probably most countries except USA) RAW is broadcast as a 2 hour highlights show. They don't need to fill the full 3 hours as they know it'll be edited and shortened in most markets.
2. Vince wants the show to be bland and non offensive so they can sell it internationally as a PG show.
3. No one is meant to get over. The star of the show is the WWE product and brand, rather than any specific superstar.

So I was curious after listening to Corny talk about Raw the last few weeks. I haven’t watched Raw in probably 12-13 years. I made the mistake of seeing if Corny was exaggerating how bad it was. He wasn’t. Raw is the worst thing I’ve ever tried to watch. It’s really sad. It used to be must watch television. Now it’s hot garbage. AEW has some issues and isn’t perfect but at least it’s an actual professional wrestling show. At least the top guys are all entertaining. WWE is just god awful.

RAW has been great for months, if not years. They have been doing a great job building new talent. This just feels like a copy-paste rant without actually watching the show.
The reason AEW is getting over with the fans is that even with all the silly bullshit there is it still feels unscripted and like a wrestling show. RAW is bore and its time you will never get back. AEW even on a bad show feels like shit is going on.

I haven't watched RAW since Eddie Guerrero was still around (RiP) but if they think it's hard to write for 3 hours of television I would suggest filling up more of the time with wrestling matches. You don't have to write shit, just send two guys out there to wrestle against each other because they are employed as professional wrestlers and it's the sort of thing people expect out of a wrestling show.
Their best ratings came when Raw was mostly talking, and you're never going to convince them that actual wrestling would fare better. South Park's portrayal several years ago was spot on.

The shows are usually average, with nothing really interesting happening, especially when you consider the Raw tag team champions aren't an established team and mean nothing in the Owens vs Rollins story, the Women's champion is too old, overdone and has gotten full of herself, the US title is essentially now a Latino division and the WWE Champion is a Part-Timer used to attract buys. What really hurts it the most is the scripted nature and Vince McMahon calling the final shots every night.
I often play Dungeon Defenders II in Windowed Mode and let a livestream of Raw run and just let it run its course unless there is something interesting on it, which is very rare.
If some slack was given and people were allowed to do their own sstuff, I bet things would work out a lot better every week instead of doing average shows.
Also I don't care what you call it it's a script period!
