- The SKX 173 from Seiko is an excellent example of a good quality divers watch at a modest price point. The example in this video dates from c. Dec 2004.
As an interesting aside as to how tough it is my poor watch suffered thru the following:
1. fell off a nighstand (the floor was carpeted)
2. it was dropped accidently onto the floor while I was sitting on a bus.
3. I once tumbled down 3 steps rushing thru an airport and the lug of the watch impacted with the ground.
After all of the above watch never stopped running :)
Misc: Seiko mineral glass crystal goes by the trade name of "Hardlex".
Being made for the US market, the county of manufacture must be stated on the watch. This (2004) example was made in Singapore, while the current (2016) version is made in Malaysia.
can you go more in to depth between Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan no one on youtube has done it. keep up the good work your videos are awesome.
to the best of my knowledge, the movements are idemtical. However some dial variants may be Japan only. Among the watch collecting community, there is more "prestige" attached to a Seiko that says "Japan Mov't. As far as the reason for multiple factories in differently locations around the world, I would imagine that factors such as cost of production, points of distribution, etc enter into the picture.

I got lucky adjusting this. It took me a few tries before I got it to my satisfaction. I wore this watch to the Canadian Rockies last yr (just a bit of trivia). thanks for watching !

is it me or the lumes are more white than other skx173, I've seen other 173 on other videos and pictures, they were more yellow/greenish.
my background lighting was very bright so I guess it makes the lume more white looking ?
Thank you for the review. This watch is like the SKX007 with different markers and seconds hand. I like the seconds hand on this watch. I have the 007 with that same oyster bracelet.

Great objective review, as usual. Can you, please, inform me what's the main difference between this timepiece and its "brother" SKX007 ? They look ident at first sight.
+Nuno MC the shape of the minute indices and where the position of the second hands dot is placed differs on the skx007 . Google some images of the SKX 007 and you'll see what I mean. Thanks again for tuning in :)

Great watch for the price
Agreed. Looks good, sturdily built, reliable durable moment that can be adjusted to a good level if accuracy, more than enough water resistance, comfortable to wear and has a day and date.. what more can you ask for ?
