"I'm suicidal so don't stand near me. My every move is a calculated step to bring me closer to embrace an early death"-Pac
This line exactly sums up how he lived his life. Especially in 1995-1996 R.I.P.

This was my favorite song from Pac , I still like it. I was so depressed back when I was a teen, being black, considered ugly, my dad not around though I had my beloved mother. Spiritual struggles as well. This song spoke to me on so many levels. Thank yall for reacting to this. RIP Brother Tupac.

Listening to this back in 95 when there wasn't so quick a access to the lyrics like we have today. I sat there listening to the song over and over writing down each word until I had the lyrics (you know i HAD to have that CD). This left me with one strong impression of this song. The whole song feels like a man about to commit suicide reflecting on his life as he is falling to the floor, begging the Lord to let him in Heaven's door. He knows the result will be baptism in eternal fire, but every move has been a calculated step to bring him closer to a early death. Now there is nothing left. He's completed all the steps to get him here and now it's time to end it.
Will he survive to see the morning sun? God forgive him because here he comes. He say's it. "I'm feeling suicidal so don't stand near me."

You know the reason I love PAC so much. Is because I could relate. I’m not saying my life was exactly like his!, but very close. Maybe my life was super troubled in my past. But I don’t know how this song and it’s words don’t bring tears to most people’s eyes? I grew up on all this. PAC was my hero. I was in prison when he died. And tough guys or not. It hit people in the heart in there. I cried like a baby. But like in his song “under pressure” in the dark is when my heart saw the most grief!”

The 80s and 90s was when the crack error started n what that did to young black males and females was turned where we lived into a killing field ,most of us had a mother father or some family member on crack so we pretty much raised ourselves. the fantasy that America showed people that wasn't from the hood was that we wanted to live like that.. Most of us back then didn't think we would live to see 30.. because we saw so much death either from police or from people we grew up with , just know drugs changed everything when it was dropped in our neighborhoods.

Shedding tears as I listen. This song touches me to the core of my soul. Pac tapped into a very dark and very real place in this song that exists in the physical, mental and spiritual planes of existence. The double conundrums that many may have missed are representations of the duality that was at play and the internal battle Pac was fighting which ultimately manifested into his real life and led to his demise. This is what you call digging deep, or "No surface level shit" as a wise man once told me.

The other amazing thing about Tupac was how fast he would write. He wouldn't labor and struggle writing, and re-writing, and tweaking. He would just get his pen out, throw it down, and move on. His body of work (considering his abbreviated time on earth) is a huge testament and proof of that. And for something to be as deep and powerful as SO MANY TEARS is amazing.

I can hear in the lyrics that 2PAC always wanted to express realism in the message You are right Shawn when you said some time ago that Hip Hop is mainly about the message in the lyrics. The music does have a catchy tempo. Shawn, your comments are very good and you made an interesting analogy calling 2PAC a modern day Dylan. Your wife Gina gave really good insight into the meaning of the song and made profound statements concerning the lyrical message about the importance of turning to God for deliverance and forgiveness and repenting . As Christians you all understand the message this song is saying. I admit this is a hard hitting song and a great reaction and review.

You get it! Now scale it to a whole generation. Shed so many tears, refers to the commonality of the poverty struggle. How your born into irrelevance, pain, and hopelessness. Chasing money and respect is the only time a poor kid gets noticed (thug life). He is aware of there is a god but doesn’t know how or if he will have time to change. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. His intent is to speak for the forgotten that society looks at and condemns. Pac intended to change a nation of people by understanding first and providing another way out. Lyrical Panther.

I hope you both saw an interview he had where he spoke on his relationship with God and whether he was rich or poor doing great or doing bad he always prayed and always spoke with God. He said it is important to him.

PAC wasn’t let to grow. When hit em up dropped. That’s what EVERYBODY wanted to talk to him about. Forget his artistry. Forget his movies. Forget politics. And that bothered him greatly

Ya it is tough when something that really doesn't speak to you as an artist becomes famous and then everyone views you through that lens!
