The film is inspired by real events in China that took on dramatic proportions during the Cultural Revolution. The same path is followed by two characters: the eye-camera, the gaze of a Western traveler in search of memories, and a fictional character. N.T. Binh is the film’s only actor. The character he plays is a Chinese opera singer returning to his native village after being deported for seven years to a re-education camp thousands of kilometers from home.
