Guess the only way you could have won is if you thrown the 7 bamboo away & kept the 9 bamboo.. waiting for single wait 8 bamboo... North player would throw the 8 bamboo for your win.
there's benefits and drawbacks to kanning there. The main reason why is because if I kan'd, it shows to everyone else that i have all the dragons and that my hand is worth a yakuman. people will usually fold if they see this or play around my discards (mawashi), so they don't feed in. Becomes a lot harder to Ron. Discarding a red dragon with my calls usually indicates that i'm in tenpai and that my hand is cheap (ish), because i'm not going for dai/shousangen. What are the odds that i had all 4 red dragons? :^) however kanning there does give me an extra draw which I could've possibly tsumo'd if i was lucky. it also means it's less likely that someone will push a 1000 point hand if they see my hand with all the dragons, and that i couldve tried to tsumo it myself. Swings and roundabouts, yada yada yada.
means you couldn't win... 8 pin would have gone to the player on your left... even if you have kan the red dragon, the 8 pin was bound to be thrown out by other 2 players & yourself... (none of you 3 needed it except the players on your left)
