I always liked the way Rumple is just quietly working away in the background. Otherwise good scene, and episode.

It's interesting they're enjoying the unicorns now but later on they write in the past David and Snow were tempted by a unicorn and the author that made their lives the way they are and Snow didnt even want unicorns above her crib

And it happened because the Author wrote, altered and made them do something against their will to make their lives miserable all because of his blind hate and him being a bad judge of character.

The thing is the writing changed. The plot with the author wasn't planned yet in this scene. They made thoughts about it in the production of season 4. Sadly once upon a time began to get a lot of plot holes and added too much stuff in such a good show. The first two seasons were golden (and 3A was also good).

@@onceuponatime2.051 I agree with all of this, except I would say season 3 best managed the new “plot focus” with sprinkling character moments in between (like this moment and many others throughout this season). However, despite the more convoluted and plot-holes galore the show became from season 3 on, I always felt that when it mattered the writing would pause the plot just to allow the characters to feel things out and kindle their connections together and grow (95% of the time: I’m looking at you, season 5). So, overall, while OUAT fell from the golden pedestal that was the first 3 seasons (IMO), the basic foundation of the show remained the same, regardless of weird plot threads, and that is a show about redemption, love, family, and most of all: hope. When you hold on to hope, that’s real magic. And I feel like that’s why OUAT will always be a special show, because it is so hopeful, and (especially now) we can all use a little bit of hope and belief in happy endings (or beginnings or second chances!❤️)
Sorry this response was so long, I just rewatched the entire series with some special people in my life and this was my takeaway from it.😅

@@mikejaks4518 I agree that the show has taught all of us that there will always be hope in every situation.
I think from 1x01 to 2x16 the show was perfect. From 2x17 to 3x11 it felt a little bit forced making Tamara and Greg pan's little helpers but it was still good and 3x11 was very good. Rumple's arc should've ended there.
Since 3x12 the show started to create plot holes, like zelena being Regina's sister but she was never mentioned before because the writers just added her now. Frozen felt forced, Season 5 as well. Season 6 had also a lot of plot holes like the black fairy suddenly being the inventor of the curse although it was said in seasons 1-3A that Rumple invented the curse.
The black fairy herself and her arc was very badly written in my opinion.
In emma's song she sang "they gave me up to save the world from your dark magic and the wicked things you do." => it's totally wrong. Who cared about the black fairy back then. She wasn't even mentioned in the first two seasons. It was Regina who was the enemy. Snow and Charming gave Emma up to save her and everyone else from Regina, not from the black fairy. The show started to redeem Regina after the never land arc and since then they didn't had villains left and added every 11 episodes a new one. And the new one was mostly even more evil than the one before. First Regina was the evil. Then Cora was more evil (I understand it with Cora because Cora was the last villain who didn't felt forced. She was a very good villain). Then pan was in never land stronger than Rumple himself.
Zelena was then more evil than Regina, maleficent was more dark than Regina (but it the end she wasn't...), Hades was more evil than the others, evil queen is called the most evil person in season 6A and then in 6B the black fairy is called the darkest person ever. I mean why going always further...!?
Regina for season 1, Cora for season 2 and then a final villain for the last two seasons. But why always adding more and more. Rumple wasn't a huge villain in the first three seasons in storybrooke. He just played for himself. But since he was resurrected, the writers didn't know what to do with him, cause his arc was actually over. And then they decided to make him a villain but this time the main antagonist in season 4. In seasons 1, 2 & 3A Rumple never fought the charmings. He rather helped them but he played for himself. Since season 3B he is now power hungry. In my opinion Cora was a huge villain: she had everything the other villains later had. She was power hungry, she didn't has a heart, she was manipulative. Since they killed her, they just brought aspects of her back in form of season 4 Rumple or the black fairy.
Minority Characters just went off. Ruby was in the start of season 2 part of the main cast but the show didn't use her and then she went of to another show (after Adam and Eddie admitted that their plans for her will be postponed because they have ideas for a neverland arc).
Ruby should've stayed a main character in my opinion. Then Mulan, Auroa, Phillip, Ariel should've had more screen time. Those characters needed to be around every season and they were good characters to explore the other worlds while the main cast is in storybrooke. I mean I would've loved to have 3-4 episodes in between the season, which only focuses on characters like Mulan or Aurora. Plus they should've created a finale like in avengers endgame. All characters come together to defeat the final villain. Instead they just said in season 6 Finale "when the savior doesn't believe anymore all the realms will be destroyed". That's so stupid. That means the realms must already been destroyed in the first season because Emma didn't believe or in season 3B when Emma lived in New York. The writing was just bad after season 3A....
That are things I'm very sad of because once upon a time started so well and the second season was in my opinion even greater than the first until Cora died.
But still as you said: they haven't lost the hope through out the series.
