Aaravos is this generation’s David Xanatos(100 points to those who know who I’m talking about.) His ability to plan centuries in advance, to be able to read people he’s either just once or not at all so he is able to anticipate what they would likely do is astounding. Terry is the most ride or die guy you can imagine. He’s not exactly *happy* to see Claudia doing this but he’ll support her no matter what. And she genuinely loves him and is kind towards him. Weirdly healthy villain(?) couple.
A despicable one as well, he literally caused Viren’s death and straight up acted like it was a sad thing in front of Claudia. Bro says he’s supporting humans but straight up sent Sol Regem to murder a bunch of innocent humans and had a smile on his face doing it. Viren did evil things but never enjoyed it on the same level Aaravos does. Dang he’s a great villain
Something I've found interesting about this season is that it's revealed how weak-willed Claudia actually is. She NEEDS a support system and people have to tell her where to go and what to do. She can't do anything of her own volition and after Viren died, she immediately turned to Aaravos and hinted that she saw him as a surrogate father. Even when Claudia tried to leave Terry, she returned within a day or two because she simply couldn't survive on her own. I love that. It makes her feel real. Everybody's obsessed with writing strong women these days but Claudia breaks that overdone writing trope by being weak-minded, overly-dependent, and easily manipulated. There are plenty of people like that in reality and it's so refreshing to see in fiction.
Extremely well-said. And it's so interesting because she IS a strong female character. She's one of the most individually powerful, dangerous people in her story, and she is rightly feared by many. But at the same time, she's desperate for affection, direction, and approval - to such an extent that she refuses to act independently. She both fulfills and inverts the "strong woman" trope!

@@Diainvcgtslover It will likely always be called the Xanatos gambit because that name has already been established. However I do think that Aaravos is better at it than David Xanatos was.
I think Aaravos planned to have Sol Regem die in Katolis not just to avenge Leola and get himself freed but to spread news that humans are capable of killing an Archdragon following Avizandum’s death. This will force dragons to fear provoking humans as humans once feared provoking them. Aaravos is evil because he is a radical peacemaker compared to his daughter Leola. Nevertheless, he is indeed Dragon Prince’s Sauron.
Sol was actually dying. That's why he choked on Pharos's body because he was too weak now. Also, I doubt Aaravos would plan something like that because Katolis is now chill with Xadia despite their past differences and is aware of Aaravos being responsible for the entire conflict to begin with. Considering how Terry is destined to join Team Zym, he would likely reveal Sol's corpse with Karim (who is likely a prisoner) revealing his affiliation with Sol before the dots are connected and conclude that Aaravos is responsible for the attack on Katolis. This is how Terry would snap Claudia out of it as Aaravos got her father, Viren, killed.
Aaravos definitely planned it. Pharos was Sol Regem's eyes and Aaravos was possessing him. There's a couple of shots where we see Pharos' eyes glowing to signal that Aaravos was in full control. I doubt Sol Regem ever realized he was in Katolis. He thought he was burning Janai's Sun Fire Elf army. All he knew was that Aaravos showed up after he was pierced by a dozen arrows and bleeding out.
