Could it be Scanlan's time to shine. Yes. Yes it could. But in D&D, an Androsphyinx like Kam is a few levels weaker than an Ancient Black Dragon like Umbrasyl (CR 21 vs CR17). It's too bad he got Archie'd. He lived in the campaign, so it was a surprise for us. Grog did dream about slaughtering Vox Machina and ended up impaling Pike on Craven Edge...
Grog may have been wounding the dragon, but not that much, and he was getting smashed, but not caring because the sword was driving him. Cammy was pretty incredible. Who knows? We may seen something of him in the future episodes.

On a surface level it is 100% enjoyable as an action adventure drama that is funny and emotional, but you can also be a huge nerd and know that Black Dragons are specifically cruel and will play with their enemies before killing them. Specifically this dragon "The Hope Devourer" literally giving grog false hope so it hurts more when he crushes him.
In D&D, a Gorgon is a bull covered in metallic plates that breathes petrifying gas.
