The song is comes from the Stanley Kubrick movie "Spartacus" starring with Kirk Douglas in the lead role. The soundtrack was written by Alex North. The first time I heard the melody many years ago was in a version of Carlos Santana and I always thought that would be the original. Only later I realized that the music originated in the old Hollywood movie of 1960. There are very nice jazz versions on UA-cam, but I find the magic of the melody comes best in slow and peaceful interpretations.
