AMERICAN ACCENT TRAINING - FULL TRACK 1-45 CD 1
Can I Learn a New Accent?
Can a person actually learn a new accent?
Many people feel that after a certain age, it's just not possible.
    Can classical musicians play jazz?
If they practice, of course they can! For your American accent,
it's just a matter of learning and practicing techniques this book and CD set will teach you. A very important thing you need to remember is that you can use your accent to say what you mean
    and how you mean it.
Word stress conveys meaning through tone or feeling, which can be much more important than the actual words that you use.
We'll cover the expression of these feelings
through intonation in the first lesson.
It is up to you to use them or not. How well you do depends mainly on how open and willing you are to sounding different from the way you have sounded all your life.
A guide to speaking and pronouncing colloquial
    American English
    Second Edition
    By. Ann Cook
    Audio by Busy Signal Studios
    Welcome to American Accent Training.
This video set is designed to get you started on your American accent.
We'll follow the book and go through the 13 lessons and all the exercises step by step.
American accent training is a guide to speaking and pronouncing American English for Everyone who speaks English as a second language .
By the end of this video, you'll sound more American & you'll understand American English speakers better.

What a wonderful story! It’s truly fascinating that you purchased it back in 1991 during your training in Orlando, Florida. Such memories must be so special. How amazing to see it again here-what a delightful connection to the past!

This is so good. I wish I knew this 30 years ago. 😂 this would be a good starting point for intonations. Everyone says intonation means different things. But to a foreigner ear, i could hear the difference, but it didn’t denote anything to me. Maybe not everyone speak like this but it is definitely a good starting point. I still don’t know some of these.

@@SaungEnglish27 I would appreciate if you can drop videos related to slang and how to sound slang in order to appear more native, when natives say watcha insted of what you, they replace the y by a ch

    • @Demondzeta
      @Demondzeta Рік тому

they are not replacing the Y by a CH, it's just a product of the last T in What that makes you touch the top of your mouth right before you do the Y sound and therefore produces a CH like sound. It happens the same when the previous sound is a D sound, wich together with the Y sound will make say a J sound, this is not slang, this is only a natural connection of the sound so I recommend you to learn to make properly each sound@@andresgomez5592

I bought this book and CD set in early 2000s when I just started to live in the USA. Best decision ever! I din’t even finish it, probably got through 2 or 3 CDs, when the ideas Ann taught just “clicked”, and from that point on I could hear the melody and understand the word liaisons easily. It immensely improved my accent. I am bummed that I can’t get this book on Audible to recommend to others.

That's such an inspiring experience! It’s amazing how sometimes just a little exposure to the right teaching method can create that 'click' moment and make a lasting impact.

This is the absolute best delivery in this subject matter available on the Internet, second best being a distant runner up. All the others that I've seen, rather than give you general instructions, so you can construct useful methodologies, overload you with arbitrarily chosen examples to clutter the mind with.
Thank you so much for this very informative and stimulation tutorial
