I was an undergrad with Julia at Syracuse - she was so talented, we were somewhat in awe of her abilities. It only makes sense that she would rise to stardom. Go on, rise and shine, we will still be in awe
Wow! Thanks so much for posting! Pretty much the only videos from this production is Sutton singing "Someone Elses Story" but this is a gorgeous duet! Love Julia and LOVE LOVE LOVE Sutton!!
Nothing is so good it last eternally Perfect situations must go wrong But this has never yet prevented me Wanting far too much for far too long Looking back I could have played it differently Won a few more moments Who can tell? But it took time to understand the man Now at least I know I know him well Wasn't it good? oh So good! Wasn't he fine? oh So fine! Isn't it madness He can't be mine? But in the end he needs a little bit more than me More security He needs his fantasy and freedom. I know him so well No one in your life is with you constantly No one is completely on your side And though I move my world to be with him Still the gap between us is too wide Looking back I could have played it differently Learned about the man before I fell But I was ever so much younger then Now at least I know I know him well Wasn't it good? oh So good! Wasn't he fine? oh So fine! Isn't it madness He won't be mine? Didn't I know how it would go if I knew from the start Why am I falling apart? Wasn't it good? Wasn't he fine? Isn't it madness He won't be mine But in the end he needs a little bit more than me More security... He needs his fantasy and freedom (I know him so well...) It took time to understand him. I know him so well...
I love that it’s a song sung by a wife and a mistress without the two of them tearing each other down. They both love him, and he’s not trying to hurt either of them and they know that. It’s just a situation where no one is can win. It’s an incredible mature song. I appreciate when characters express themselves without acting like children.
The issues are actually with the book for the musical. There's a tie-up with the rights here in the states. The Royal Albert Hall concert was recorded in London, so it's available for purchase. But to the best of my knowledge, this specific performance was a benefit concert for the Actors Fund and is not available for purchase.
HiI! It was a one-night benefit on Broadway for the Actors Fund. I started with DREAMGIRLS in 2001 and We never made them publicity available on DVD. Filming Broadway shows for the public is a complicated process and has only recently gotten more common
julia murney has got a very very beautiful voice here. much more than foster's. sutton's voice, I believe, is an acquired taste. you either love it or hate it.
Idina plays the character much more subtly, which is what the chaacter needs. She embodies the role better, and needless to say, is incredible. Julia is likewise incredible, but I feel she is a little too strong for this character. Sutton, whom I usually am not that fond of, was very good in this production, but the best Svetlana remains Kerry Ellis.
I wonder if they were having a hard time hearing. They both had some pitch issues. I've seen Sutton live and she's a rock star. This is very atypical. I had a hard time listening to this.

I was there, 4th row orchestra. After party as well. What memories.
Julia is PERFECT!
+WHATTHEBUCKSHOW they're both perfect :-)
Sutton Foster makes me crazy emotional, totally love this! I'm from London and loved the Idina version too, just found this, they are both incredible
sensory overload... Julia and Sutton damn.... Julia's backings behind Sutton gives me chills... freaking amazing... Julia is so fierce
So gorgeous! I seriously started tearing up before I even watched the video! The pairing of this duet is a match made in heaven! =')
Was at the show. Still one of my fave nights ever.
SUTTON RULES OH MY GOD SHES PERFECT WHAT

Sutton had her breakout performance on Broadway in 2002, since then 4 Tony nominations, 2 of those resulted in wins.
Incredible.
This was so beautiful! Love Sutton =]
Ahh, I've been looking for this duet for forever! The last person who posted it took it down. Thanks so much for posting it :)
I love this soooo much. Julia and Sutton are both so amazing and this song is so emotional. The feeellllsss!!
so beautiful i love this song!!! and these ladies!!!!
I've only seen sutton on bun heads I didn't know she had it in her so emotional they did fantastic
This song literally makes me cry 😭

This video is like the Grammy’s performance with ALL the divas performing but Broadway.
AAAPPPPAAAARRRTTTTT!!!!!
I cried.
I’m like, did Seth teach it like the Whitney Houston cover? YEP HE DID. Right down to the drum fill on 2:55 !!
it makes me tearful everytime
are there any other videos out there where they BELT "APPPPAAAAAAARRRRTTT" like in this version? It's so flawless
Only the Whitney and Cissy cover version. It's not part of the standard arrangement of the song, so you're not likely to hear that often
Lea salonga and rachelle ann go
I dont like it
Sutton, You are so amazing!!!!

Girl educate yourself on Sutton Foster, you'll thank me you did. Sutton Foster is the Goddess of musical theatre.
She’s not the only one biatch
finally someone who agrees with me!
Nice duet!
First viewer! :))
@bean4sarah
It's an archival video and not commercially available, partially due to some issues with Josh Groban's label if I'm not mistaken. ;)

I agree.
❤
ANY concert version of Chess ever staged is WAY much better than the infamous London concert with idina... haha!
Julia makes this
They've added in a bit of the Houston's vocal arrangement towards the end...
Not really, no soulish screaming here.
I said "a bit"
u cant get this version, but u can get the version with kerry ellis and idina menzel on itunes...i dont know if u can get it on dvd
I enjoyed seeing julia on sex in the city too. I recognized her right away.
Is there somewhere I can purchase a DVD of this? It looks professionally recorded. Where did this video come from? Thanks.
Julia looks like Celine Dion here!
It might have something to do with how she sings "I low him so well"

Julia is Far superior...Hands down
😎😎😎
They don't voice match at all............ the different vibrati hurts.
It doesn't help that Julia Murney seems to be under pitch quite a bit.
