0:47 is my favorite "SPHINX".
The problem is, what happened to Billy wasn't the OSI; that was Hunter acting out against the OSI's higher directive (i.e the red tape and bureaucracy) and using Brock and Billy to try and get something done that he deemed the OSI too slow to accomplish.
Try telling that to Col. Hunter. Oh, but before you do, be sure to tell at least 3-6 people where you were going, who you were talking to and why.
even then, he would've said anything to avoid dealing with white.

Really only Shore Leave had a secret. Everyone else had things they just hadn't told people. Mile High probably would have told anyone other than the owner about the dog if they asked.

why does sphinx constantly need to explain itself throughout the show, its concept is simple; they deal with villains and terrorists who fit the profile of super-villains but refuse to abide by the rules of The Guild, seeing as the OSI was always dealing with these people after carrying out the slow and inefficient will of the bureaucrats
Maybe they think people keep mistaking them for one of those mentioned?

Its because Spinx (old sphinx from the pyramid wars) WAS a well know super terrorist organization, and old rival to the guild. In universe it makes sense they’d have to explain to people what they now stand for since they were borrowing the IP
Its a joke? Its like how nobody could really explain what GI Joe did either. Sure they stopped Cobra from building a super laser in the arctic to blow up Ft. Knox, but sometimes they would run off local toughs who were messing with some kid they knew.

I like that SPHINXs mission statement did make a lot of sense, a group that targets people using super tech but not abiding by the various treaties that govern it.

Ironically however, even though they claim they were chasing the Investors, they were actually after Montroso, who not only is Guild, but follows Guild rules with ruthless precision. That's what makes him so dangerous, he knows every loophole which is why he was untouchable by the OSI.
I like the guy in the background just indiscriminately whaling on a billion dollar stealth aircraft with ah hammer
Interesting fact: Hunters does not believe in vampires. This was established during Brock's super spy backstory where he asks Hunters (in regards to the no killing women and children rule) about female vampires. Hunters says because vampires are undead they don't count as women, but then follows up by saying vampires are fictitious. This in spite of the fact another character on the shown is a Blackula Hunter.
Even though this mission sounded like it would be right up their alley, Hunters likely blew White off because he doesn't believe vampires exist, meaning it sounded like costume villainy, I.E., OSI/Guild business (and technically he was right, Monstroso is a Guild baddie, but is untouchable by the OSI).
The more I watch this, the more I want to start watching from the first season.

So did they end up installing a device that says "Sphinx" after any time someone says it? I forgot Shore Leave actually says it himself here, so I always thought it just something added in by the creators for us to hear, not the characters but now I'm guessing they all hear it every time, too. In which case, I'm surprised no one ever says anything about it.. unless they have and I forgot that, too.
This is the only continuity error I'm currently aware of regarding Hunter using Billy for the OSI because that *WASN'T* ordered by the OSI, Brock and Hunter were looking into The Guild when the OSI forbid it, that's when Sgt. Hatred demoted Brock and sent him to body guard the Ventures.
Or Hunter is just bullshitting again

They’re like a well-oiled machine.
Any time a super villain doesn't play by the rules, Sphinx gets involved. They're kind of like the Guild's enforcement wing, except the guild isn't involved with them, because they don't care too much unless super villains hurt the guild.
I actually prefer Shoreleave's SPHINX, to the background choir.

This Sphinx is not the same one from before.
After the Massacre at Gargantuan Space Station, David Bowie, The Guild's Sovereign, pretended to be the head of Sphinx and declared war on the O.S.I giving a decade of war between them... Brock was there. The old Sphinx got eliminated. Nowadays what you see is O.S.I using the HQ, uniform and whatever from them, in order to do things that as O.S.I cannot do.

I dont get it.....by Hunters own explanation, I'm pretty sure a (semi) regular person who is not under OSI protection getting abducted by Vampire's sounds like exactly the kind of thing Sphinx is meant for, dealing with the problems that are outside of the Guild but still affecting every day people.
but would Vampires count as supervillains? they would need to be vampires holding super weapons OR Vampires created for the sole purpose of being henchmen for a supervillains
otherwise, they just Vampires going about their business, and in this case doing a simple kidnpapping...just by vampires (well I guess minor Greek Gods or whatever they and Killinger turned out to be)
@@stevesmith1383 the whole main rub of what Sphinx was doing was tackling the super big problems that the OSI doesn't bother with because they deal with the guild, the OSI use to be about anything weird period, but the more the Guild became more of a major plot point, the more it became about OSI and the Guild being the balance between good and evil in a G.I.Joe opposing Cobra kind of way. So non-guild sanctioned Vampires abducting somebody should fall under Sphinx criteria (the only reason Hunter took the case was so they could steal the thunder away from the OSI by getting to the Investors before they can)

As those people are not 'bad guys' sanctioned by the GoCI, and are highly likely to be completely unaware of the guild's "rules," they fit in the margin of what Sphinx handles, yes. Besides what you named, there are those 'bad guys' you don't hear about that _don't_ abide by The Rules, which makes them dangerous to the status quo, and targets to put down.
Ah, that makes sense. Wondering why he specifically says "pointing at your daughter" part though. All the others mentioned "you" being in danger.
