Obviously, I can't argue with what he was hearing in the room, but the sound differences coming through UA-cam to my headphones was the exact opposite of what he summarized.
With these settings, the DGT as a bit more mids. You can EQ the amp and/or lower the pickups of the DGT to make them sound the same tbh. I think the specs of the guitar are more important for which to choose. I'd pick the DGT because of the narrower nut, bigger frets and tremolo.
Very good and fair comparison. Both are great looking guitars, I wish you had discussed how the neck profile of the two compares, but both appear to be winners.
Even though I have a core 594 that is pretty close to being my #1, in this demo I prefer the DGT SE over 594 SE. Just seems to have tone that's really together and tasteful. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for doing this video and showcasing side-by-side of what these two new guitars have to offer. They both sound great and I don't think you could go wrong with either, depending on your playing style. You've got a new subscriber!
"They are very different..." Actually, no, they're not. Admit it, people; To the listener, these two sound so similar as to be interchageable. Choose between trem/no trem, neck profile, and which one you find prettier.
I already own the PRS SE Paul's Guitar (that gives me something already close enough to the McCarty 594) so I'd be looking for the PRS SE DGT. That would give me a 22 fret dual humbucker guitar with a trem & slightly different pickups and tone from my current selections. Nice comparison. THX!
I prefer the McCarty stop tail. Both sound great McCarty slightly deeper perhaps. I own S2 McCarty love it as no SE existed then. My favorite ever rarely reviewed is my SE Paul's Thanks for you nice playing and demos
i got the dgt SE gold top which looks amazing in finish and playability.thinner neck much than MC carthy for better solo run.overall both guitars have their own unique sound.
DGT sounds better but the 594 looks better. All I care about is the difference in the neck profile - typically not a fan of PRS necks/ feel but I heard the DGT was very diff like a 59 LP - can’t find one to try
It's funny I found this video as I'm right now struggling with these 2 exact guitars. I'm lucky enough to own both and have been considering moving the 594. Then I pick it up and play it for a day or 2, and can't let her go.
I was told buy a major retailer the SE DGT is anywhere from 6 to 10 months out. I don't really like waiting that long for an under $1000 guitar. I wish PRS didn't hype the product so soon.
Hi, I like the clarity of your tone. I have the MCcarty 594 SE and I find it “muddy” not at all as clean as you have it. So, to understand your tone, what is your signal chain? Line 6 Stomp I heard. What preset on the clean times? Any other settings? Want my 594 SE to sound as clean as yours. Thanks!
You mention that the DGT’s pickups are hotter, to my ears that doesn’t sound to be the case? What am I missing? The McCarty sounds as if it has more output
I really wanted to love the McCarty, but the neck is too extreme. I played the single cut and trying to play up the dusty end actually hurt my hand. It has a way thicker neck than even my acoustic guitar. It’s crazy. The DGT still has a bit of chunk to the neck, but in a good way. It is half way between a modern Fender and a vintage Gibson, which is kind of the theme for the ergonomics of the whole guitar.
@@GuitarEmerge It’s too much for me, which is a shame because the McCarty is one of the best looking guitars I have seen at any price, and I do like the tones and the layout. Maybe the double cut is easier to deal with. But the stretch on my thumb trying to play high Am licks was crazy inhibiting
@@GuitarEmerge Actually I have to ask, what is the deal with the sunburst DGT? I really want one in that finish but I can’t find any and it ist even on the PRS website as an option.
Great video. UA-cam compression sucks becuase they sounded almost identical. Thanks for talking about the tonal differences. Are the neck profiles the same?
Liked. Thanks. Comment on the nut width? What's the nut width of each? I'm told that the neck on the McCarty is wider but I can't find specs. And neck shape? Thanks. Interestingly, with clean tones, I heard the McCarty as fatter but you heard the opposite. Relistening, I get what you are saying....but I think it is a difference between mids and bass. Maybe..:)
I've had 2 of them and within a years time the necks twisted on both of them. Mass produced using green wood. Other than that they are a good guitar for the money.
@@2musiclover534 No I did not. They were just a little over a month old when I traded for them. I contacted PRS about them ' I was told since I wasn't the original buyer and had no proof there was nothing they could do about it. The lady I bought them from had passed away and I didn't want to bother the family hunting for documentations regarding them so I just let it go. I will say ' I've played other PRS guitars and they sound good and are well constructed. As far as buying a new one ' I don't think I would ever do that. Maybe an older/ used one would be ok? Still have a bad feeling towards them. I've talked to 2 other people who have had the same experience with the necks on them.
Never heard this before. Literally have read dozens of forums and tons and tons of threads....my Holcomb se sits out all year in a house which has zero humidity control and is straight as an arrow.
Great demo! The 594 is quite impressive! The DGT is really good but "thinner" mostly the upper strings. The DGT should have its coil splits on each volume pot.
Thanks new subscriber now. Ill prob never see both dgts and a Custom/Std 24 in one store these days so which neck is thinner the dgt or a Custom24 pattern thin? I want the skinniest neck.
We’re definitely hearing the .022uF (DGT) vs .033uF (594) tone cap value difference here. Yes, bigger value tone caps cut more treble/high mids even if you keep your tone pot at max. I’ve always wondered why PRS shifted to .033uF for a lot of its models.
I didn’t know about the different cap values. Thanks. I just got my McCarty 594 version in the Black Gold burst like here, and I think it is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever owned or played. And I love the neck profile!😢
Whats up with the color on the dgt? Yours is way different than the se prs shows with sunburst and their backs are black. Yours looks red and the head stock is red??
Why does this dgt se look like a red sunburst with red head stock?all the other dgt se on UA-cam looks like a black sunburst with a black cherry colored headstock.
Agreed, I've watched all the videos I could find showing the Sunburst version. This one does look noticeably red. I actually don't like it. Here's another reddish one. ua-cam.com/video/WqTLrOZzcBQ/v-deo.html
@flubomzo I saw another video that it's actually brown on the back. I think it was a video from The Trogly's Guitar Show channel. He held a flashlight up to it and it was brown and you could see the wood grain slightly
I was thinking about selling my Les Paul Studio 50s Goldtop 2012 but I'm not going to do it these sound different it has the growl! These are beautiful guitars though I think I'm going to get one of these also
Both sounds great. To my ear, the DGT has more clarity, and warm. The McCarty has more high end tone. I do not use tremolo a lot, so if I buy the DGT, I might block the tremolo to make it like a hardtail system. Over all, great video!!

594 all day long for me.. Just a bit warmer to my ears. Both are fantastic sounding..Also the Trem is a deal breaker for me.
I need trem, I need to play Better Call saul theme 😅
I thought the 594 sounded slightly better however I don’t think you can go wrong with either one.
I know many reviewers seem to prefer the DGT .
great demo i ready wanted to like the 594 but i like the sound of the dgt better

Locking tuners and better pickups and they really come to life.

594 vs DGT:
- neck - 2:34 vs 2:51 - 3:06 vs 3:22 - 3:36 vs 3:51
- both - 4:50 vs 5:10
- bridge - 6:43 vs 6:58 - 7:15 vs 7:20
Like the color of the dgt. The ones I'm seeing are darker on the edge of the burst.
Amazing how these models are getting so much attention but something else just as good but much more affordable is forgotten: the Ibanez AR420...
