This is part two of the 2001 documentary exploring the life and career of George Best. I wish to make it very clear that I do not own the rights to any of the material of the documentary.
A friend of mine many years later bought the bar in Marbella, which was directly across the street from the hotel he always stayed in. It was a small bar but it was George's regular bar. I often would sit there in the evening thinking back to the time when George was a regular at the height of his fame.
Best new from an international point off view he had no hope a single class player..once he achieved it all from his club he had nothing left to play for the interest died out to to it up the good looks and the money he lived the dream most men can only Dream off
George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best Danny van Strien Holland Europe
George had a life. The boring nobodies without interesting lives turned George into even more of a drinker. He couldn't have turned a full Hermit, so the alcohol helped him escape.
What a waste of talent, spent his childhood and youth kicking a ball about just to throw it all away for booze in his prime. He could have gone to Europe and challenged himself there
Jeez he’s got some loyal mates, after united there was no where to go , he’d done it all !!! Rod marsh, Jesus he was 27 he could have gone to several English sides and tried to win stuff he could have gone to Italy or Spain , thing is he wasn’t disciplined at all , that’s why he will never be the greatest which some people think, Cruyff played top level till 37, and he was definitely the greatest player of the 70s, Pele & Eusebio played with there clubs till into there 30s then finished in the US at nearly 40 same as beckenbeaur , Best was at Bournemouth & cork Celtic , speaks for itself
He had done it all club wise. And to win what he won all in the same year at just age 22 takes some beating. European player of the year, british player of the year, english player of the year, english to goal scorer of the year, and he did win man utd the european cup in 1968, all that in the same year, and for a winger back then was unheard of to score 28 leauges goals alone, and always had to beat men to score. But how great it would have been to see this guy playing well past his peak to age 37 or 38 for man utd. The club let him down. Couse he had the natural fitness to keep playing as a forward to age 35,36. Then in midfield to age 38. He had great vision to do that and the skill and the remarkable speed of thought to just change a whole move in a split second to make a goal. Thats what all the worlds top true greats had. Like maradona and pele and beckenbauer. Messi had skill in abundance? I thinck? But not like these guys had. And they got it alot harder and werent protected in there day and on mud swamp potatoe fields.
