A good musician is a good musician no matter what the ethnic background or age. However, I must say as a black parent of string students wherein my children are often the only blacks in their ensembles or orchestras, it is particularly encouraging to see young black men playing classical music this well. Bravo!
4mydearlady Your children are blessed to have you. Music and art have no bounds. We also must have a return of music appreciation in all schools! Best to ur kids!
Oh I so agree with you !! - music has no barriers and whatever colour your skin happens to be is completely irrelevant . Music comes from the heart and the soul & if we are given the gift and the technical brilliance to go with it we can communicate and connect with others all over the world . I myself have it all in my soul and heart but have not been given the technical ability so find it really frustrating ! Thanks to people like Sheku ,Bramah & Isata I can find this wonderful release . Thank you all SO SO much
I whole-heartedly see where you are coming from and I agree. I just wanted to add that I am white, my grandmother came to USA alone when she was 11 from Finland (I just enjoy sharing that), I was born in 1984, so i'm an elder millennial from Louisville KY--I was in band in school--white, black, asian--we didn't notice. I'm jealous of all great musicians like these guys, lol. They put in work to sound this good. bravo to their hard work. I started playing cello last year--I'm not good but I love it
Well the Royal Wedding has started something- it wasn’t just I who was gobsmacked at Sheku’s performance- now I can’t stop watching and hearing all the videos of this amazing and oh, so very talented family -. THEY ARE TRUE GEMS AND DESERVE GREAT MUSICAL CAREERS- ALL OF THEM- they are also so very charming and have impeccable manners. God Bless you all. 🇬🇧🙏🏻🇬🇧🙏🏻🇬🇧🙏🏻🇬🇧
I love this duet but watching the Kanneh-Masons -- any combination of them -- perform on youtube brings joy into my life. Hope one day post-pandemic to experience one of their live concerts. Thank you for posting!
Just came across this family tonight for the first time. I've been up three hours devouring everything I can about them. Absolutely mind-blowing talent, musicality and powerful, passionate interpretation. And neither the father or mother is a musician
Beautiful. I would actually go to see the whole family play in concert. I hope they are offered a tour after all of this exposure Sheku received because of his brilliant performance at the Royal Wedding.
Spectacular duo! Love Shehu's passionate facial expressions while playing. Braimah is top notch also. I cant stop watching the Kanneh-Mason family. So talented. A pleasure to watch & listen!
Violet Hill Me too. I have been listening for the past several hours. I just can not get enough of the Mason family and Cheku’s passion he has when he plays. He is truly a gifted young man.
Just saw him and Isata in Freshwater last Saturday. Probably the best chamber recital I have ever seen. Simply stunning ! It will make me look at Beethoven sonatas in a new way. Good luck!!!!
Sylvia Lamar Colon I concur. Additionally what American children listen to can hardly be considered music. I cannot read a note , play an instrument, and can barely carry a tune. But my spirit knows great music. At age 13 I saw the movie of George Gershwin which featured sympony orchestra accompaniment as he played Rhapsody in Blue, which still makes me cry. I was hooked. That was over 55 yrs ago. I'v been listening to these young ppl's various performances most the day. Mesmerizing.
Sharon Cansler , I believe that we have kids here with the same amazing talent that this wonderful young man and his family have, but we are not nurturing them. I know the movie you're talking about Sharon I love it too I watch it whenever I catch it on and it makes me cry too. Side note, I happen to work in Manhattan about four blocks away from where George Gershwin used to live on the upper west side they have a plaque on the building that mentions the music he wrote while living there.
Sylvia Lamar Colon Thank you Sylvia for sharing that bit.on information with me. Music is universal. Incidentally when I saw the movie I was a student in an all black boarding school in Jackson Ms. At the time it was called Piney Woods jr sr College (even though it was only primary to High school) The school enjoyed some noteriety back then, hosting students from Africa.. Of all my experience at Piney Woods, the introduction to classical music thru Geo and Ira Gershwin, I am most appreciative. Thanks again
Wonderful the brothers send a musical story to us with so many different tones and rhythms l am hooked on the whole family's music and it is wonderful seeing Sheku helping his young sister who insists she will be better than Sheku one day Thankyou Nottingham schools for supporting them Sheku is always well received at the concert hall One New year eve he played Alleyluya with Symphonica Viva it was magical THANKYOU from NOTTINGHAM
Bravo.....absolutely brilliant....I love classical music. I listened to it as a child at school and was exposed to many genres of music. This family are all truly gifted musicians...its in the spririt blood
Just the extra motivation I needed to continue learning instruments , I play a little cello and violin, and working on the piano because I enjoy it more. People are surprised when they hear me play instruments because I’m ‘ black ‘ but it’s really fun and purposeful , I’d never trade it for anything :)
Glad you aren't worried about the surprise. LOADS of black musicians play classical music. Look up famous jazz players, they were raised on classical: Oscar Peterson, Nina Simone, Barry Harris, etc.
I've seen you guys on Britain's got talent and you guys took my breath away. You guys are so amazing. I play the violin but not like that good. You inspire to play and practice more to be at your level.
BLACKS IN AMERICA...TAKE HEED!!!!! THESE......BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN........CHANNELED .....INTO MUSIC BY THEIR...PARENTS...WHEN THEY SAW ...THEY HAD TALENT!!!! IT IS NOT....THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN......ITS THE CULTURE.......YOU GROW UP..IN!!!! HARD WORK....PAYS OFF!!!!
Yes. And the culture in America is rotten and rotting. (It's better in Britain but far from perfect.) The colour of the skin makes it MUCH harder to succeed. This oh-so-worthy HARD WORK you preach is MUCH more likely to pay off for whites. (BTW I am white.)
I was sent a link and I've just spent 2 lovely hours listening to as much of their music as I can . The talent is amazing from all of them. Each one plays a part in the big story. Without the backing and other members it would be just an ordinary performance, but not so. I would love a CD !

Yes. We must embrace diversity in music to act as a link between conflict between countries and cultures! Music is truly an international language.

@@pokeballdawn Music has no boundary..great music IS international.

Excellent parents!
We talk so much about Sheku but his brother is equally exceptional on that violin. I could listen to them all day 💛😀
Dawnette Dunkley and whole family.
I agree. I think Braimah is equally brilliant. Their family just blows my mind with all that talent.
He is a master
While most teens siblings are having pillow fights and wrestling, this family has made the best use of its time and is changing the world. Phenomenal!
i bet they still fight..lol as long as nothing gets broken..both use their hands..lol
Wrestling and pillow fighting vs studying law and practicing classical music? In my family we did both.
I cannot believe what i am hearing...classical music with Soul....absolutely great.
Amazing. Could listen all day. Thank you🌺
i love the way you put that. i think it is why i'm attracted to their family. what talent. the passion for the music.
All classical music has soul..lol most classical pieces have passion off the scale!!!!
Haven’t heard such inborn talent for a long time !- this was completely stunning and left me holding my breath !! Wow!!
lol its not just talent. Its dedication.
I love this duet but watching the Kanneh-Masons -- any combination of them -- perform on youtube brings joy into my life. Hope one day post-pandemic to experience one of their live concerts. Thank you for posting!
Sheku is the Jimi Hendrix of cello! He even has the looks!
Paul Fitzgibbon I agree 100%
Although setting his 400-year-old cello on fire is definitely out of the question, seeing that it's on loan and all :)
I was referring to the one he has now.
He is a lot more handsome than JH
Just came across this family tonight for the first time. I've been up three hours devouring everything I can about them. Absolutely mind-blowing talent, musicality and powerful, passionate interpretation. And neither the father or mother is a musician
A million people should be listening to this gorgeous interpretation. Genius.
Some quiet joy in these stressful times. Bravo and many thanks gentlemen.
A master pierce performance from the Kanneh-Mason brothers!
Sheku's expression is impeccable!! I look forward to hearing his entire career! Definitely a fan! Of course, Braimah was not slacking at all either!
Beautiful. I would actually go to see the whole family play in concert. I hope they are offered a tour after all of this exposure Sheku received because of his brilliant performance at the Royal Wedding.
Such amazing talent!!! Thanks Royal wedding for bringing me here

I just found Mason and others with whom he plays on You Tube. How superb! I am now a fan and will watch and listen often.
This family reminds me of the Marsalis family, including Wynton and Branford Marsalis.
MrOu83 yes . Thanks
Wow! The Chemistry between brothers transforms their performance!
It has the sound of a full orchestra.
Exactly! You have described their interpretation perfectly. Their brotherly virtuosity is thrilling!
It’s really incredible
The echoic quality of the venue's acoustics "enlarges" the sound to great advantage.
Well, yes, these guys are absolutely amazing, no question. But they aren’t responsible for the acoustics in a church, lol.
Wow. Such a beautiful and striking performance.
Took my breath away. Flawless!!
Electrifying, dazzling performance. Also, amazing ensemble playing. Well done, boys!
Beautiful!! Sending good vibes from South Africa.
Brilliant - it's a shame the audience reaction was cut out. It must have been rapturous!
thank you thank you thank you....such passionate playing and soulful expression...stunning!
Phenominal. Shatters all stereotypes. Love claasical (and jazz ) music. This family is simply astounding. We're doing something all wrong in America.
Sharon Cansler , I think what we're doing wrong or what we have done wrong in America is that we've taken music classes out of the schools
