I hope so! The important thing is to move it around a lot so they don't get used to it. I also have a video on dealing with deer in particular. If you haven't seen it yet, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/y1cYfDdWu0A/v-deo.html. Best of luck!
Thanks for making this video. It's the best scarecrow one I've seen so far. I don't know what's eating my garden but I'm trying to find something that will keep them out and I thought maybe try a scarecrow.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. If you have a local Master Gardener program, perhaps you can take some photos of the damage and ask them to help you figure out what's causing it. Good luck!
I have a scarecrow but i didn't made it and it weights like an acual person and the materials were made in the 16 to 1700s but the sack has an motionless face and it's creeping me out.
We don't have crow issues, but they are so smart, I'm sure they wouldn't be fooled. We primarily have problems with all of the California quail in our garden. Unfortunately, it didn't take them long to realize it wasn't real! Digby looked pretty cool in the garden, though.
Hi Susan thanks for sharing the helpful tip about how to make the scarecrow. My question is I live in Sri Lanka and i have a daily family of monkeys. Will a scarecrow scare them off too ?? Your reply is much appreciated. Thanks
Hi, Tracy. I've had no experience whatsoever with scaring off monkeys but would assume they are very intelligent. So that makes me think they would quickly discover it is not a real human being. You could certainly give it a try but you might need to create something that mimics one of their natural predators. I'm sorry I'm not able to be of more help to you, but I'm sure they are a frustrating challenge!
The scarecrow will not get rid of the Voles. There are hundreds of small holes around my raised beds and several large holes inside my beds. I don't know how to get rid of them.
You are absolutely right. And the scarecrow hasn't exactly struck terror into the hearts of our covey of quail either! But it was a fun project. Voles are extremely challenging to deal with. There are repellents that help (look for products like Mole Chaser and Mole Away) which have castor oil as the active ingredient. Good luck.
Well, 2 years later, I have to say that it only worked for a few weeks! Then our quail got used to it. For pigeons, I would recommend bird netting of some sort. Cheers.
By far the best scarecrow construction I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing!!
Safety pins will eventually rust when left exposed to the elements.
Cable ties could be an alternative option. Having said that, great scarecrow.
This is great! Thank you for sharing! 🙏🤗
Thank you... saved me time trying to re-create the wheel

Yikes! OK, I think I like a friendly scarecrow better, LOL.
Am going to try to make one today. Do the crows eventually realise it’s not real?

Hi Susan thanks for getting back , I did some research yesterday old CDs do the trick as I have read let’s see what happens.
Did you use a drill to attach the cross piece to the pipe? Just wondering how you attached the cross piece to the pipe.
Yes, my husband helped with the structural parts and I dressed up Digby!

That's an amazing scare crow! Something like that might keep the birds out of the fruit trees, do you think?
I certainly hope so! We are planning to put it in our orchard before it's time for the cherries to ripen.
Thank you. I hope this will keep my neighbor cat away.
Will try this i'm tired of pegions eating my veg

mom You're lucky, you don't have a hundred of monkeys
That's true! And I would imagine they are a major challenge!
