I actually really like the game. Kinda like ck3 on mobile
Ludi I'm from Arizona will you play as the apache? :)
The fire damage on the melee units are most likely supposed to represent the legionary pilums and javelins.
Wouldnt that be arrow damage instead of fire? Or projectile xD
@@hessenweiss1428 fire means like shooting, however these mods set in older time periods make that into other ranged things
@@hessenweiss1428 I mean it sure is better represented as fire than shock if shock is what cavalry excels at.
base game fire is meant to represent projectiles of all kinds, cannons, muskets, arrows etc... its why in 1444 inf still has fire pips as well despite not having muskets yet, shock is melee damage, and is why cav almost never have fire pips except eastern cav cuz horse archers, and then cannons i think only deal fire damage
Slings are also a option i think
Hi from the Imperium Universalis dev team, Ludi ^_^ Thank you for review
Thanks for the advice hird! And great work on the mod, you guys deserve more recognition, a lot of work was put into it!
I just want to thank you for making this mod guys. It’s amazing. I’ve played Macedon, Rome, Sparta, Athens… it has all been great gameplay with only small ignorable issues. The mechanics are all interesting and fascinating, the only thing it’s lacking is flavor events, but besides that I’d rate it 10/10. It’s even better than Rome universalis or whatever the name of the Paradox game is
When you want to play Imperator Rome but it's actually still getting dev support
Oof
I'd rather actually play Imperator. They have some dumb ass anti blobbing mechanisms in this mod.
@@TheGreatDanish then dont just mindlessly conquer everything around u
@Konradeo that's the point of the ancient world
@@TheGreatDanish you're able to disable that and blob to your hearts content
Sorry for the old geezers in later bookmarks, they were not finished and I put in actual 400 consuls one for every year of early to late republic for next update.
The 3.0 update itself was rushed and anything starting from Greco-Persian wars bookmark was not finished, many things were ripped out of testing phase so... there will be way better balance and debuffs rescaling for next update, I personally made sure of that. - Junior Dev of Imperium Universalis team.
P.S Vassals start as Autonomous... so they do stuff, you need to use diplomatic interaction to downgrade their autonomy.
Historically speaking, there were no Chinese emperors at the time but kings, however, that the "emperor" is so weak is historically correct. The Late Zhou dynasty was extremely weak.
never knew, thanks for that info!
I think more like duchies, because 600 ad Zhou only hold title of kings, there was no empire or emperor.
Yeah it was called the period of springs and autumns or something like that and it's basically a period when the Zhou authority was close to not existing and there were all the microstates fighting for supremacy over China. Eventually Qin Shi Huangdi won and created the first real Chinese empire, the Qin dinasty. At least, that's what I learned studying a little bit of Chinese History, if I said something wrong please correct me
@@sigma_fil1529 Basically correct, just that the Spring and Autumn period is only the first half (770-475 BCE) and the second half is the Warring States period (until 221 BCE). The Qin dynasty follows the Warring States period.
I had (a very, very boring) class on this topic in Taiwan. It's important because Confucianism (and Legalism) developed at the time and was shaped by the political environment.
@@doktorarbeitslos oh yeah right I switched the two phases of the Zhou dinasty.
Also as an European teenager I find Chinese History really interesting, I'd like to study more about that
Hey Ludi, wanted to let you know about China during the period. After the collapse of the legendary Shang dynasty China was extremely decentralized with many powerful “duchies” that basically ignored the declining Zhou court. Over the course of the Spring and Autumn period hundreds of small states basically did a massive battle royale that ended with the Seven Kingdoms (at this point Zhou was pretty much reduced to a symbolic city state with the larger states proclaiming themselves Kingdoms). The Jin state is actually extremely interesting as it was generally considered one of the largest and most powerful contenders in the middle phase of the Spring and Autumn period. Unfortunately they did a real life accumulate too much AE moment and got coalitioned and partitioned (kinda like Poland) by three different states, these would become the kingdoms of Zhao, Han, and Wei. The fall of Jin basically marks the start of the Warring States, with Qin eventually coming out on top and defeating all six of its rivals.
Ironically Zhou was one of the last city states that got absorbed by Qin, since it was still the symbolic leader of China.
For the Philippines, there are some tribes that already exists around Mindanao, well throughout the entire Philippines actually but Maguindanao and other parts in Southern Philippines are more prominent cause they have records of interaction with other Malay nations
Bit strange for everyone to be around while their homeland Taiwan is empty though
on the other hand that’s also how vanilla handled it…
@@a2e5 Don't know much about Polynesian or Melanesian history, but couldn't it be possible that the people who emigrated from Taiwan created more advanced societies in Nusantara than in Taiwan? Carthage eclipsed the Phoenician city states, for example.
@@a2e5 TBF Taiwan had rather little interaction with other nations that had developed beyond the city state stage until 1500s.
A Romanian rebuilding the Roman Empire? How original. I’m kidding Ludi. Love your work.
At the first start of the mod, China is going through what is called the spring and autumn period, where the Zhou gave out a lot of land to various Lords and princes, basically creating a proto HRE where the minor cities and duchies began forming the seven kingdoms of the warring states period. So instead of the mandate of heaven mechanic I'd honestly say its a better fit to have the daimyo system or the HRE system, though for the latter would be more problematic because there is no voting for the Emperor.
Daimyo system could work well since they also had all the fighting around and blobbing etc. And sengoku is literally the same kanji / hanzi if you think about it!
@@a2e5 yes, but my history on that period isn't as good, so I'm not sure if the Zhou emperors had the same abilities to call his vassals to commit sepukku or not. Over all I agree with you, devs for the mod should probably go update China some day.
isn't there a reform that makes emperorship hereditary
There could be incidents in the empire where the emperorship may change hands... the first reform shall be erbkaisertum to make it an inheritable title
@@yeeyee5057 Historically when the royal house of Zhou moved into Luoyang at 770 BC, they were in fact reliant on the support of nearby feudal lords. And the Conflict of Zhou and Zheng (the major sponsor and most powerful vassal of Zhou back then) in 717 BC had completely nullified Zhou's internal political authority. By the time of 612 BC, the royal court of Zhou had practically served no authority except as a casus belli generator for its major sponsors (which was Jin at that time) to wage war constantly against Chu.
I think the most fitting way to represent the Spring and Fall system would probably be a Papacy system where you may be penalized to outright annex OPMs (back in Spring and Fall era, ending a noble state was severely frowned upon despite land grab wars being common, therefore strong powers would often offer vassalization for the defeated states, even to the point of moving the noble house somewhere else to reestablish their state) and attacking non-Chinese countries give you diplomatic bonuses to Chinese states. And the system would allow a strong power (limited to Chinese states or semi-Chinese states with high civilization value) to become the Sponsor ("bà" (霸)) of Zhou, which would incur diplomatic bonuses, give excommunication-esque CBs to countries that is in bad standing with either the Sponsor or Zhou, declare "crusade" against "barbaric" countries to return land and reestablish conquered Chinese states (especially semi-Chinese countries like Chu which were bold enough to declare themselves "king" (王)), and probably even provide an althistory path (which Confucius and many others had dreamed back then) to reunite Zhou by having a single powerful vassal/chancellor upholding the King's authority unchallenged. On the other hand, nearby non-Chinese countries with enough population and decent civilization value may declare themselves as "king" (王), which would provide massive civilization/economical and diplomatic bonuses and be recognized as "semi-Chinese" at the expense of Zhou's authority (which would drop nonstop if somebody else declared kingship) and constant conflict against most of the Chinese states lead by the Sponsor of Zhou. If Zhou's authority drops low enough, then powerful Chinese states would be able to proclaim themselves as king and eliminate the Spring and Fall system once and for all, making everyone a fair game for conquest, and every Chinese power (no "semi-Chinese" status anymore) can force non-Chinese countries into tributaries for themselves.
And then, once someone conquers all the Chinese countries, they would establish the Celestial Empire system and the tributaries previously established become the first batch of tributaries in the Celestial Empire system.
Ludi I know this has nothing to do with the video but last night I dreamt that u were some sort of god. I was climbing a mountain and at the top of said mountain there you were, sitting, dressed in full roman soldier armour and when I asked "Stakkenweipen?" you replied "Stakkenweipenicum" and I felt enlightened by your wisdom. One of the most random dreams I've ever had.
I am everywhere.
Log off
Looks so good! I wish the base game would have had pops instead of dev aswell and being able to play for such a long time would have been so so nice to have.
me too bro
the pop mechanic is the number 1 reason for lag in this mod, simulating population is killer on PCs, its why Meiou and Taxes mod which also has pop is slow, its also why Victoria 2 has specifically scripted china to literally crash, burn, and die in a fire before they can ever westernize, as in, the devs specifically designed china to be unplayable despite the major historical inaccuracy, because without china dying, when china westernizes, and their pops start entering the world market, the games simulation of an economy actually crashes and everyone but china enters permanent banktruptcy because pop simulation heavily favors china as they have double the pop of the rest of the world combined, its really bad
TLDR..... pdx will never make a game that covers this much land with a pop mechanic this detailed, it would be too laggy and break several systems, imperator got away with it because they have a lot less land to work with and most of the other mechanics are lightweight, victoria didnt get away with it, and had to gimp an entire region of the game to fix it, and crusader kings only simulates a small fraction of pop, or rather, just the county leaders and above plus some family
Judaism is not based of Zoroastrianism. however during Achaemenid empire's period Judaism took a lot of influence from Zoroastrianism and it has a lot to do with the time they were under Zoroastrian rule and the fact that a lot of Jews did live among Zoroastrians and returned to Judah later with the Zoroastrian stories which became part of Judaism
It is also worth noting that Zoroastrianism has a binary view of the world, where the universe is a massive battleground between two equal forces, good and evil, whereas in the Abrahamic religions, evil is just a pesky little thorn in the side of the force of good. There is no equal battle, evil is merely tolerated until its eventual destruction. Judaism can't have been based off Zoroastrianism, they have foundationally radical worldviews. Zoroastrianism may be monotheistic in a certain sense, but it is just a henotheistic monotheism, where its believers just choose to worship the "good" power principle, but they may as well worship the "bad" one and still have a chance at "winning the game", whatever that may mean, whereas in the Abrahamic faith, there is only one God that will win, and the other contender (satan) and his followers will perish.
Yeah Judaism was technically based off of Yahwism which is claimed to be the first faith of the Hebrew peoples formally practiced since God’s promise to Abraham.
You can't get claims manually in this mod that's why you have double ae cb. Overall expansion is quite difficult in this mod. You can't get full cores until separatism is gone, army's cost skyrockets very quickly and you get scripted debuffs as you grow bigger.
It's no double AE cb, AE depends on your monarchs mil skill
@@emperoruniversalis9773 exactly, if you have mil 5 ruler the ae and cc is actualy only 50% value. its maybe les with 6 but never had one....
@@emperoruniversalis9773 I just referred to it how it was called in the video. I don't remember all small intricacies, I haven't played this mod for like half a year or so because it's too laggy.
This mod is really cool. I made a playthrough with Athens some years ago and it was really fun. Because of how vassals work in Imperium I basically recreated the Delian League and had greece as a vassal swarm (including Sparta which has insane military). Was really fun fighting a HUGE Babylonian Empire with all my vassals and me heading into anatolia. In general I had the most fun just going around and vassalizing/conquer&release all helenic states across the whole mediterranean and there are a lot of them ... especially 1 province minors, fun little RP campaign as Athenian Democracy liberator & protector of all greeks (aka vassal master).
Thats AMAZING. Thanks for Video ludi, this mod Seems amazing.
Also cant wait for Caesar start, my favourite time period :)
Glad you enjoy it!
My favourite mod. I'd love to see another part to it from you soon :p
Ludi I adore this mod, thank you for showing it
Finally ludi play imperium universalis after a long time . This mod is the best , please play with "anshan" at the cyrus the great timeline , it has ton of flavour
Hi Ludi! Hope youre doing well in Romania! Stay safe!
Thank you! You too!
Hi Ludi, love your work!
Curious about your opinion on Imperator: Rome
Funny story. I actually also studied history, used to live/ teach English in Japan and play EU4 there. Kinda feels you are having a live I could have had. Not that I don't like my current one.
Continue your great work sir!
It’s funny because I’ve been playing this mod before, during and now after Imperator Rome. It’s certainly one of the best total conversion mods for any PDX title.
I'm currently playing my first Imperator campaign as Rome. Enjoying it but feel it could be better. How would you compare Imperium to Imperator ?
Hey, Ludi! I've got a great idea for a campaign where as Rheged in the Extended Timeline Mod, you have to unite Britain and conquer the rest of the Celtic world! I think it'd be a cool campaign from an underappreciated era!
I played as Aztec totemist after your video and it was super fun (even played to the 1821!) Could you please do a northern america tribe video?
Ah yes, the famous French city of Messina outside of the Mediterranean.
Downloaded this mod, going to try it when I get home looks boss
I didn't expect that this mod would also add China with such detail, I'm really interested to see some play in that region
26th video of asking ludi for the first taungu empire achievement guide.
wait a second xD
If you will make a campaign in this mod i really recommend u to focus on trade and making vassals cause you cant make nev provinces states for 25 years after conquering
This mod looks so fun, Im just going to try it right now.
This is so cool, feels like everything Imperator Rome should've been but never became :(
You should try Imperator: Invictus mod available in steam workshop, most subscribed mod for a reason, its total overhaul, patched rebalanced rehashed Imperator experience. And its only getting better as its still being developed by a quite big and experienced mod team.
@@qiblik Wow, thank you so much for the tip!
I can’t wait to see this mod in EU4 multiplayer the building browser is gonna allow you to do a lot of things that will make it fun
Sadly original developer of the mod did something weird and broke multiplayer support, new team can't dedicate time to find and fix the issue as it would hurt already slow update releases.
Ludi.. i was sent to boarding school by my mom 3 weeks ago and the last video i watch is the italy one. i hope i can finish this school and watch you freely again like i was. i miss the good old day i hope you the best, and see you again in 6 month 😔😔😔
looks so great, reminds me good old days when i played Rome 2 total war for the first time, just afraid that my PC would not make it :D
PS: just a thought but you could make money from conquered provinces because you sack them ?
I can't wait to try this mod out
9:40 I think this is great in order to include pax deorum in the game.
Thanks!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH SERGII !!! Dude this is insane! I really really appreciate it a lot ^_^ and thank you for watching my videos!
💕💕
You know a game is bad when your community makes mods for that time period in another game rather than playing the game you made specifically for this period.
7:47 Yo Ludi so the reason that there aren't melee and ranged units in EU4 is because the Swiss Pike Square, Spanish Tercio, etc. literally denote a specific arrangement of muskeeters and pikemen, swordsmen, so on funcitioning together to form an infantry unit - honestly recommend looking at the videos by Sandrhoman History about infantry through the ages, think you might really love it. (Though entirely agree we should have trebuchets et al as the artillery to deal with forts before we get cannons 10000%)
We need more of that mod!!!!
I wanna play a strategy game that revolves around the Ancient Period, and to form Rome by myself. What games do you recommend? Imperator or this mod or Total War: Rome you get the point
Finaly it is here
Try wining for assyrians and i am willing to donate $200
Imperator rome with Invictus mod is very nice, or rome 2 total war with divide et impera mod, the imperium Universalis is still good don't get me wrong, but it's eclipsed by the other two in my opinion
@@anantadharmaparayanat5448 eh imperator rome is bad though

I have to check it out. :)
Hope you get the 10K likes for the 2nd part.😬
To understand a bit better why Rome did so well in its early times, it was originally a federation of three tribes (Velienses, Latinienses and the Querquetulani) installed on the classical seven hills. It was then since its origins around the IX/VIIIth century BC one of the biggest agglomeration of central italy and one of the most populous. It was in a good defensive position (hills with steep slopes and lot of swamps) and was situated in an essential commercial crossroad, being at the crossing of the road that went from Etruria to Campania and at the first fordable point on the Tiber (when coming from the sea) : it was at that point that the salt (primordial in ancient economy for food conservation), coming from the salt plans of the coast, entered in Etruria.
Glad to see you have the greenscreen back.
this video was recorded 1 month ago actually xD my editor just finished editing it today Q_Q
@@LudietHistoria damn you bamboozled me like a damn fiddle...

First Punic war Starts because of Messina City located in Sicilia
Ludi: I think Massalia is Messina now
Bruh
This was well past the Zhou Dynasty’s peak of influence. The Dynasty lasted for about 800 years. The start date is during the Spring and Autumn Period where the central authority of the Zhou withered away and local lords became stronger. Jin having Zhou as a March is showing that they had puppet control over the Zhou at the time. This is during the “Eastern Zhou” period where the royal court moved to the east and worked closely with the Jin for protection. While the Zhou had the title of the Mandate of Heaven, it didn’t mean much any more. The major vassals of the Zhou were gradually gobbling up the smaller ones and this consolidation is what led to more open conflict in the Warring States Period. The Zhou were still around during the Warring States Period but had no way to control the Warlords.
more of this please

Great mod!
Day 4 of asking for albania guide
The years that you see are probably not BC, but AUC, standing for Ab Urbe Condita, or years since the traditional founding of Rome.
I want more of this
Ludi are you still going to do your random nation series like you did with Nogai??
yes sir, had 2nd episode of that series few days ago, my england video ^^
Question to anyone who played this mod, does it follow historical accuracy throughout the ages? for example, will macedon rise if you start in 612BC? or is it like the extended timeline mod?
"Railroad" is planned but the dev team is not huge, they did not even finish bookmark content starting from Greco-Persian wars, next update should include content for them and new Chinese content as it's made separately by actual chinese and has to be translated afterwards.
Haven't played in a while, but as far as I can remember it's more like the extended timeline mod. There are a bunch of scripted events at the beginning which become less and less frequent over time
During battle of Grunwald cannons were used it was 1410
Do a Sparta guide for this mod, finding their manpower malus from their government form horrid, guess heavily rely on mercenaries for sieges and only use your main army as a kill force?
Sparta was unfinished along with most Diadochi content and gets a massive buff in next update.

It would be cool if there was a way to combine this mod with Extended Timeline. It would be even cooler if Extended timeline could go back all the way to the dawn of civilization and play as like bell-beaker folk or natufians and then colonize the ancient world and split into later tribes, like celts and canaanites.
It possible but it would take a shit ton of work to do so and I doubt anyone would want to attempt that huge project.
Makes me wonder if there are any mods, or games, set during the bronze age just before the collapse.

Funfact: The Romans expanded mostly via diplomacy in the italian peninsula, like promising protection for them becoming subjects of Rome. This strategy lead to them growing quickly in the Italian peninsula.
Sieges don't take that long due to teh fact that forst at the times was most of the time made of wood.
Rome was a democracy until Ceasar came along
21:50 It should be in EU IV vanilla because what the hell happens with country money when they are fully annexed?
I think that is some kind of vanilla game bug suddenly appeared in mod...we havent coded that, that amount of money is bigger that we would want to grant to player, so just call it an unexpected feature xD
Everytime I see you make a video about a mod, I want to download it, but my computer has the processing power of a very energetic potato, and this one seems out of its capabilities
I think some infantry units had javelins, they would throw them before engaging in melee.
Yes the Roman’s would use what they called pilum. Basically it was a special javelin that had a long metal shaft at the end that was a little soft so when the pilum hit something like a shield , if it penetrated then it would bed under the weight of the wood shaft. This ensured that the pilum could not be thrown back but also when it bends it would render the shield unusable, making a warrior at a huge disadvantage.
actualy most of antique infantry and cavalry throwed something, because why not, enemy will die, you will not.
Funfact: Sparta was the first recorded democracy Athens was its son
Restore Roman borders series? 😈
Zoroastrianism was dualist, not monotheist. They recognized both the good spirit, Ahura Mazda, and the evil spirit, Ahriman.
Ahah. So God and Satan.
There is nothing to debate. Zoroastrianism was and is Monotheistic.
seiges wouldnt take long in antiquity as most places simply didnt have massive stone forts
That China thing is historically correct

To be honest, ancient judaism was more of a monolatric faith that had a lot in common with the canaanite faith as well as with the egyptian religion on it's creation language and mesopotamian religion with it's poetry and with it's wisdom literature, it's only after the liberation by Cyrus the great that they also start to assimilate some zoroastrian tought, in the secodn temple judaism, but that doesn't apply to all of judaism since some of them were more influenced by greek philosophy, other sects were their own brand of judaism (you have some desert sects writing what was basically scripture for them), and you have the temple priests that rejected anything that wasn't in the torah, so it's really hard to say that judaism and christianity are inspired by zoroastrisms, they have zoroastrian influences in how they see the spiritual world? Sure, but ancient judaism is as old if not older than zoroastrism and they have so much more that separates them that is hard to make any sort of bigger connection besides the influences in how much more angels and demons are present in jewish literature after they come back from the exile, while they existed in jewish traditions from before that, they didn't showed up near as much as they did after it
