Away from his parties, and in public, he’s probably not a “wall eyed drunk” or gibbering junkie but he’s always had something in his system that his system has relied upon for him to function…and now that “something” is gone. When his liver, kidneys, etc process that stuff out of his system, he’s going to be like a car engine with no oil in it. Either add more oil or get ready for rough ride until the thing seizes up…and that’s probably a VERY BAD analogy.
I don’t want to make light of withdrawal from drugs/alcohol because I’ve seen it first hand and it’s a BAD scene no matter where it happens or how long it lasts. Alone in a jail cell sounds like a special kind of hell. He might be able to access something while he’s locked up BUT if he gets it from another inmate or a guard, chances are that he’ll have just leaped into a spider web. The spider will be waiting for him when his case comes up. And if that happens, he probably won’t breathe free air again until he’s done his time, barring a miracle. Yeah, he’s bad off. In more ways than one.
