    I would also offer garlic as another food storage crop. My cooking would be very sad without it!

      Agreed. Garlic would probably be number 11 on my list.

      Mine also, garlic is a must. I save all my skins, dry them, grind them to a powder, there's my garlic powder

    Dilly beans!! They don't all have to be plain green beans. Although there is hardly anything better than ham, green beans and new potatoes!

      We have a couple of stirfry recipes that use beans that are amazing! And another that has potatoes and beans in a super good dill sauce.

    Not true! I love green beans! I love them fresh as a snack in the garden and I love canning them for a side dish. One of my favorite vegetables.

    Rutabaga, turnips, parsnips are wonderful for storing. And I love! Green beans. Plain, dilly, garlic pickled beans oh my.

      I've never grown rutabaga. What are they like to grow??

      Me too! I love green beans 😂 they’re great in a charred and spicy stir fry 🤤 and I’d say rutabaga is like a big turnip. I’d love to know how you preserve them!

    There's nothing like digging up sweet potatoes in the fall here in N.Y. To me its so fun because you never know how big or small they are until you pull them out of the ground. And i do save the smallest ones as my seed potatoes for the following year.

      Yes, I love sweet and regular potatoes for that same reason.

    Nice video. Not sure how long that you’ve had your channel nor how many videos that you’ve done; but as a newer subscriber, have you made videos on canning? Showing how to can, or even what your canning storage system looks like? If not, it would be an interesting video to watch to give us some ideas.

      My channel focuses mostly on growing. I have done a couple of Preserving videos but they weren't all the popular. I do have a food storage course that is part of my membership. The Gardening Academy. Thanks for the sub.

    If you don't like beets, try YELLOW beets! I LOVE them so much more than red beets. The greens are not as good however. If you like beet tops, stick to red for that and grow yellow for the beet.

    About the berries, do you have a problem with spotted wing drosophila? They have become the bane of my existence! I just found out that in order to control them, I will need to spray every 5-7 days until harvest and also rotate three different insecticides.
    I was just putting bags on my apples today!

    Cabbage! Keeps forever, you can make sauerkraut with it, etc. It's one of my "priority" crops every year.

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  4 місяці тому +1

      We do grow cabbage most years. But I consider that more of a side crop for our family, like lettuce or other greens.

    I am growing peas, bush green beans, turnips, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes along with sage, rosemary, thyme, basil, dill, cilantro, chives, parsley, mint and lavender. In my greenhouse I am seed starting cauliflower, bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, brussel sprouts and turnips. I am germinating seeds to plant into my garden. I still need to get flowers growing to add to my garden. Thank you for this wonderful video.

    Why can't you grow blueberries?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  4 місяці тому +1

      The soil in Utah is very alkaline. And so is the water and rain, so it is really difficult and expensive to grow blueberries. They need acidic soil and its really hard to keep it acidic here, even in containers.

    Would cucumbers fall into this too? They can be pickled and made into relish.
