San Nicolas, one of the most famous holy week procession towns of Ilocos Norte. Our town and the church was founded in the year 1584. We have so many images with dazzling floats, colorful flowers and gold lights. Including the antique images, it has an old carrozas also that had been taken care of by different families.
On every Holy Tuesday, we have the procession we locally called Sabet-Sabet or Jesus carrying the cross meets his Mother Mary, John, Mary Magdalene, and other women who followed him to the calvary. The passion images were also included on Holy Tuesday.
On Good Friday, our famous and beautiful images are the La Pieta which is by the camarero of Bonoan Family, and the Santo Entierro which is also by the camarero of a different Bonoan Family. We also have our antique image of Mater Dolorosa that is now at the care taking of the Rosales Family but was originally from the Balay San Nicolas.
Easter Sunday Sabet, procession start at 4:00. The images of Sta. Maria Magdalena, Sta. Maria Salome, Sta. Maria Cleofe, San Pedro, San Juan Evangelista and Mater Dolorosa will meet each other in a procession of the Jesus Resucitado. After the Sabet, the image of the Virgin ascended to the stage of a castle and made look like the kingdom of Heaven. After the ocassion and the holy mass, the Mater Dolorosa, Jesus Resucitado and San Juan Evangelista will have a short procession through the house of the Anghel Mayor of the Easter Sunday year. The Mater Dolorosa will stay for a long time inside the house of the Anghel Mayor and the Jesus Resucitado will be displayed inside the church until Resurrection days ends.
In this town, we have 15 antique images that have been a hundred years and it will still be used during our Holy Week celebration. The images are San Pedro, Agony in the Garden, Scourging at the Pillar, Jesus Nazareno, Sta. Veronica, Tercera Caida, Crucifixion, La Pieta, Santo Entierro, Sta. Maria Cleofe, Sta. Maria Magdalena, San Juan Evangelista, and Mater Dolorosa. 15 because the Jesus Resucitado is also an antique image that is used for our Domingo Sabet or Easter Sunday.
Years later, it gradually increased since the year 2000.
This is the way to give thanks to God and to remember the ultimate love of Jesus for he loves us even though we are slavery of sins that Adam and Eve inherit to us as their children. God truly loves us that he gave his one and only son Jesus. He that died on the cross for us to be cleaned us from our sins and healed our pain. Let us accept him as our Lord and the Son of God for he deserved to be praised! 🙏🏻
