Not only is this Ramones-style NZ Punk Band superb but the video direction is also very professional. "The Scavengers" feature on the New Zealand Punk album, "AK 79"; a compilation of Auckland Punk bands in 1979 (also "No Tag", Oi-style band). Kiwi Punk deserves resurrection for a 'New' New Zealand Generation. Yeahh, naahh!🇳🇿🎸🐑🦎🌴🌊👤
Just came back from DCD spectacular evening in Dublin and I have to say: Big Respect to Brendan! My 14 years of dedication and support to those people paid off! My dreams came true! My life will never be the same...
When this first came out I saw it on Radio With Pictures hosted Dr Rock AKA Barry Jenkins, he turn me & NZ on to Punk. I thought this was the best Kiwi song ever. I still love it.
For a small town boy in the late 1970's, seeing this on RWP simply changed my view of the world. At uni, AK79 was up there with Neverming the Bollocks. One thing that has bugged me for years - the lyrics to Mysterex and True Love. Anyone help??
They played a lunchtime concert at my secondary school, Takapuna Grammar, in 1978. The teachers were all freaking out because a "punk band" were coming to the school! I enjoyed it but they were too loud and the acoustics in the school hall were so bad it was just noise.
Perry later formed Dead Can Dance and Monroe (aka Des Hefner) played briefly for The Birthday Party during the latter band's final tour of Australia and New Zealand. Monroe went on to play in a series of Melbourne-based acts including The Slaughtermen and Maurice Frawley. Both Cooke (Go Public and Daisy West) and Monroe are still working musicians in Melbourne.
DCD brought me here! Love discovering new punk rock in 2024!
DCD,.....40 years and I still can't find a better duo.
Cool. Thanks for the upload.

A deserved entry in the great NZ songbook.
Wow they sound just like the Buzzcocks....

I don't think Brendan Perry knew how to play bass guitar.
So, next to Brendan, what did the other two members end of doing?
