I used to love planeschase until we decided to do triple planeschase commander and after 130 turns we had to stop some say that game still hasn't been finished
Wow, super artistic bottle episode. Cutting back the mayhem and comedy to show four friends having fun and playing magic. The ‘Breakfast Club’ of Friday Nights. Well done 👍
no lie. i rewatch this episode alot more these days. it really has this comfy feeling of playing commander with friends. and in these honestly dark times a episode like this reminds me of the good times. hope one day we see more episodes like this :)
Gavin Li I partially think that's why both Kathleen and Paul had a notebook and phone out respectively. Either being used as a script, cliff notes, or just their lines. We never actually see what's written down/typed out.
loadingreadyrun hahaha That's awesome. Thanks for the information Graham. I feel much happier knowing it was indeed fanfiction. LOL In turn, that makes this episode even better knowing there wasn't notes being used during the continuous shot.
Bottle episode! Great editing guys. Crazy to see how much you guys have improved since the faux match cuts you used to do when switching between players.
Seriously, this is an amazing feat of acting and cinematography. Everything firing on all thrusters. Years later and this is still my favorite FN Episode. Bravo, Loadingreadyrun.
I... really liked this? It reminded me of Magical Our Town. Just a simple slice of life piece. Wow. I can’t get over how much I enjoyed the simplicity.
Okay this episode was awesome from both a game play perspective and a visual perspective. I also love seeing Saproling of Colfenor and Drana actually be in an episode of Friday Nights. Also I know that Paul probably doesn't have that commander deck built in real life but I would love to see that deck list.
FoggyMemoryJ I played against someone in 1v1 Commander who used it all the time. Was actually reasonably competitive. Sorry I don't have a list for you :/
This reminds me of a style of show that my 7th grade playwriting teacher loved, where all action happens without switching scenes. He compared it to a movie that employed this style called twelve angry men, which he showed us in class. In seventh grade I hated that movie, but I loved this more than most movies I’ve watched and thought it used the style to great efficiency. Bravo.
My favourite episode in a while. I love that it's a breather from high-concept zany stories and it's just people, around a table, playing magic, having a conversation. I love how very theatre it is. Excellent, excellent all around.
I honestly think this is the best Friday night video simply due to its spectacular cinematography. I keep finding myself back at this video randomly even tho I watched it 10+ times.
I really loved the feel of this bit. The relaxed conversation, the camera rotating around the desk, and even the feel of the scripted dialog. This just feels.... real.
Oh god, I loved this episode. It felt exactly like I was back with my buddies in the service, playing Commander games that lasted way too long... thanks for this guys, really. It felt great.
Very impressive how all 4 of you guys maintained character throughout the entire skit, Long takes are hard and it just made an already good episode Great!!
This was probably my favorite video of the channel so far. The continuous one shot from the camera was awesome, and the dialogue felt even more fluid and natural than normal. Plus any vid about commander is already a better vid than its "non-Commander" Peers. Great Job!
this is one of the best ever and a perfect representation of a typical commander game. now i'm sad though because i can't play commander because i moved across the country for work
This was amazing! I really loved the tone, the natural feeling to the dialogue, and the feel like this could have been a real magic game. You knocked it out of the park!
I really like the feeling of this video the atmosphere is very friendly you can feel a personal connection with the crew in this one and the way the camera spins is a nice touch
Love the double reference at 1:05 to both the other Friday Nights where they play against Nate Holt as he is dressed like a wizard, as well as the conspiracy game with Nate Holt and others posted on the Magic: the Gathering youtube page. I also love the head nod Cam does before talking/
As the credits roll my brain tells me "this may have been one continuous shot" & upon second viewing it was right // Now I'm even more impressed! I'm liking the free flowing feel of this ep -M
I loved this one! Very fresh tone. I liked the calm and soft feeling. I didn't feel any downer mood at all like some other felt, but rather calming and almost soothing. Nothing I would want to see every time, but great as an experiment. Also, long takes are so hard to get right, so good job! :)
This was amazing. Best episode ever. I also get the feeling that they wrote and shot this episoe and someone pointed out what moat actually does and instead of reshooting they just added the stinger.
I think this is my favorite Friday night episode, on first impression it isn't as funny or has as much personality as other episodes but in terms of execution it's 10/10
I had to watch this a second time right after the first time because I had just put it on in the background and wasn't able to appreciate the smooth oneshot.
Having a high recasting cost for a commander, and still hardcasting it when in late game(thus when having lots of mana available) is a normal thing in commander games that last for while. This is a normal commander format thing, not a reference to a specific game. If it had to be a reference, then it would just be referencing long commander games in general, and if you consider that a reference in a MtG comedy show, then you might as well considering everything MtG related to be a reference. Secondly, none of the players in the Game Knights game Kathleen played had Cromat as a commander. Heck, none of them were playing a five-color commander. They might have mentioned Cromat in the video and I just forgot about it, but it still doesn't mean much considering that Cromat is simply one of the best 5-color commander available in the entire game. The other ones are better when the deck is built around them, but Cromat is the most versatile and the best when the 5-color deck in question doesn't depend on the commander card itself, but instead focuses on the benefits of having 5 colors.
sancturillore lol my bad got cromat and chromium mixed up. In the game knights episode she was hard casting the same 3 cmc commander for a lot to just stay alive towards the end, and cromat was a commander by Josh in an earlier episode of Game Knights, and honestly, Cromat as a commander isn’t as versatile as you think
For being the most versatile, I didn't mean in general out of all commanders. In general, it is simply versatile, but as a 5-color commander it is the most versatile out of all of the legendary creatures possible to have as a 5-color commander.
I also used to play edh games with inadvisably large numbers of players so the mention of turns followed by the realization of how long it’s been since someone made a game action is very relatable. The only difference is that someone actually knew whose turn it was without an investigative discussion
Great Friday Nights. Great technical work, great character interaction, great slice of life feel. Felt a bit like a setup for a Quentin Tarantino movie, but chill and everyone is ok.
This was a great episode. Lots of callbacks and the one shot idea was not too bad. Hope there will be more of that style and "The Office" style of camera work from a previous episode. Plus it really felt like a nice game of EDH being played that they would actually do in their free time.
Jesus this was wholesome as heck. Brings back the feels after your hardcore days are over and everyone has found their comfortable niche. Then Kathleen read the fanfic... *shudders*
You guys need to do a planechase episode where whenever the plane switches, the set switches to a different room of the moonbase.
Trotise Harris +
That's actually bloody brilliant and leaves up so many avenues of creativity, all of which I like.
That would be pure awesomeness
I used to love planeschase until we decided to do triple planeschase commander and after 130 turns we had to stop some say that game still hasn't been finished
That is a truly amazing idea, I love it!
Can we take a moment and appreciate this at least 5 Minutes longshot?
I suspect we both just spent 5 minutes appreciating that glorious long take.
You are not alone. I do love me a good oner.
Super motivated pans with good focus on the subject. Nice.
This was reminiscent of the blackbox one-acts I found so charming in college. Bravi.
This is amazing
So true
nice channel
Holy cow you put what I was thinking into words...
“I have a buddy named cromat and he’s going to be your buddy too.” That line sealed the deal. Great episode
This was a very accurate depiction of how most commander games I think I’ve played turned out..
Basically ALL Commander games.
Play more infect, that usually speeds things up lol
If it was my meta it would have ended up with 1 person pulling off some insane infinite combo. And it wouldn't have taken 3 hours.
Hawk of Battle yeah that’s the flip side of what usually occurred. I haven’t had a game of EDH in almost a year now, too busy with work
Mine is the best of both worlds; 3 hours to do an insane infinite combo. ~.^ Ahh, it's so glorious..
I simultaneously can and can't believe that Kathleen wrote fanfic about Jace and Vraska
I can more easily believe Jace/Gids.
Wet and breathless.
DrendarMorevo nah, gideon doesn’t get nice things. And he’s too busy chasing Chandra who’s too busy chasing Nissa
Im surprised that wizards let this that their channel
A bit of RG hehehehehe...
Domri :'(
“Hey I just read moat” 😂 amazingly dry and hilarious episode
Wow, super artistic bottle episode. Cutting back the mayhem and comedy to show four friends having fun and playing magic. The ‘Breakfast Club’ of Friday Nights. Well done 👍
I think the earlier episodes especially focused on this, which is why I like them more. It was nice to see that in this episode
Sacrilege
One long, continuous shot? I like it.
no lie. i rewatch this episode alot more these days. it really has this comfy feeling of playing commander with friends. and in these honestly dark times a episode like this reminds me of the good times. hope one day we see more episodes like this :)
Huh. So that's what a bottle episode of Friday Nights looks like. It was actually kinda neat. Sort of a cozy feeling to the whole episode.
Thank you, I couldn't name that warm feeling I get so rarely on UA-cam.
Less of a bottle and more of a bubble bath
I like the one continuous shot style, it must have taken a while to remember those lines though. Good work guys!
Gavin Li I partially think that's why both Kathleen and Paul had a notebook and phone out respectively. Either being used as a script, cliff notes, or just their lines. We never actually see what's written down/typed out.
I can tell you that Kathleen's notebook was, in fact, fanfic she was writing. Just so she had something to do.
loadingreadyrun hahaha That's awesome. Thanks for the information Graham. I feel much happier knowing it was indeed fanfiction. LOL In turn, that makes this episode even better knowing there wasn't notes being used during the continuous shot.
Gavin Li They probably did the birdman ting.
Way too much camera movement though. I'm glad I don't get motion sick.
Bottle episode! Great editing guys. Crazy to see how much you guys have improved since the faux match cuts you used to do when switching between players.
editing? One take with no breaks, Jake
LRR has gotten me back into MTG on three separate occasions. Damn magnificent and entertaining scoundrels :P
"My Commander is- my deck is called the Dark Heart of the Wood"
Kathleen *Napoleon Dynamite sigh* XD
Okay this episode was awesome from both a game play perspective and a visual perspective. I also love seeing Saproling of Colfenor and Drana actually be in an episode of Friday Nights. Also I know that Paul probably doesn't have that commander deck built in real life but I would love to see that deck list.
FoggyMemoryJ I played against someone in 1v1 Commander who used it all the time. Was actually reasonably competitive. Sorry I don't have a list for you :/
No worries. I honestly wasn't expecting a reply but hey that still sounds really cool.
Graham & Kathleen play the same decks on the episode of Game Knights they were on.
@@MSUHitman kathleen plays drana on game knights but graham plays chromium
This reminds me of a style of show that my 7th grade playwriting teacher loved, where all action happens without switching scenes. He compared it to a movie that employed this style called twelve angry men, which he showed us in class. In seventh grade I hated that movie, but I loved this more than most movies I’ve watched and thought it used the style to great efficiency. Bravo.
My favourite episode in a while. I love that it's a breather from high-concept zany stories and it's just people, around a table, playing magic, having a conversation. I love how very theatre it is. Excellent, excellent all around.
Commander intro in muh Friday Nights? SOLD.
Cool, it's Muddstah!
They had a commander episode in the first 5 they did and they have done commander multiple times, they were even referencing it on this episope
LLR's experimental story telling techniques are what keep me coming back to these, even as someone who doesn't play magic.
It just makes me want to get a core set and some sleeves and a deck box
I honestly think this is the best Friday night video simply due to its spectacular cinematography. I keep finding myself back at this video randomly even tho I watched it 10+ times.
One takes are always an impressive feat. I always enjoy seeing them as a film lover.
Hey, you can't attack with sapling if Cameron has mo-
Oh I see, carry on.
I really loved the feel of this bit. The relaxed conversation, the camera rotating around the desk, and even the feel of the scripted dialog. This just feels.... real.
The banter and politics is why I love Commander so much! Great episode!
Great Job!
This was fantastic! I love how you push yourselves to do new things in each episode.
this is one of the best ever and a perfect representation of a typical commander game. now i'm sad though because i can't play commander because i moved across the country for work
I love you guys, You've given me so many good laughs over the years. Hope you guys never stop making this series. :D
INCREDIBLE WORK. Well done guys this is great :D And interesting. Sometimes episodes like this can die on the dialogue. You killed it. IM so happy :D
This was amazing! I really loved the tone, the natural feeling to the dialogue, and the feel like this could have been a real magic game. You knocked it out of the park!
Amazingly shot and still packed with great writing and callbacks! This video makes me feel like I'm at commander night, and I love it.
Kathleen is writing 50 shades of Jace >.
Ottawa3453 50 Shades of Sultai
50 plains darker
50 shades of blue
50 Shades of Argh me harties
I still love the close-in camera work for this episode. It makes it feel very intimate, like a one-scene play.
This was actually just a really good episode... and it involved Commander, best format! Please do more episodes like this. It was simple, yet great.
This is beautifully shot. I love how simple it is and because of that, I am drawn into the conversation more.
Always forget how awesome this episode is! Makes me reminiscent of the old commander games I used to play
That was beautiful! I loved the way it was shot and the acting was spot on!!! Well done!!
I really like the feeling of this video the atmosphere is very friendly you can feel a personal connection with the crew in this one and the way the camera spins is a nice touch
That was a neat episode! Kinda wish the others were around, but this was a cool experiment that I think paid off wonderfully! Nice work!
Love the double reference at 1:05 to both the other Friday Nights where they play against Nate Holt as he is dressed like a wizard, as well as the conspiracy game with Nate Holt and others posted on the Magic: the Gathering youtube page. I also love the head nod Cam does before talking/
The way this was just one unbroken shot for all of the gameplay, and it was all done in the same take was really damn cool. Bravo.
Cam really is my spirit animal
This might have been the best Friday Nights episode you've ever made. Excellent work.
As the credits roll my brain tells me "this may have been one continuous shot" & upon second viewing it was right // Now I'm even more impressed!
I'm liking the free flowing feel of this ep
-M
I do love how they're still using the Graham Balor photo from Desert Bus for his card, because that's just such a great look.
I loved this one! Very fresh tone. I liked the calm and soft feeling. I didn't feel any downer mood at all like some other felt, but rather calming and almost soothing. Nothing I would want to see every time, but great as an experiment. Also, long takes are so hard to get right, so good job! :)
Wow, this has to have been the greatest Friday Nights ever! I loved the Seinfeld-esque banter. Well done LRR crew!
I'm genuinly impressed with your production design and execution thereof; bravo!
This is so well done. It's such a relaxing style this time.
I love when you expriment with the style of Friday Nights. Good job!
Probably the best Friday Nights vid in a year
Great episode! It's always neat to see y'all try things like this. I can't wait to see the Loading Time featuring it.
LRR with a gosh darn masterpiece here! much love!!
This is probably my favorite Friday Nights episode.
This episode was so amazing! The way it was shot was so cool!
Incredibly well shot, Graham you've done it again
Amazing and happy to see you guys are making Friday nights more often
Ah Friday's nights commander games my favorite episodes thank you for feeding my addiction
Damn this video is artsy as hell, and I love it.
This was amazing. Best episode ever. I also get the feeling that they wrote and shot this episoe and someone pointed out what moat actually does and instead of reshooting they just added the stinger.
I really loved the camerawork in this episode. Especially the camera rolling around the edh game. Fantastic!
If you know anything about film, this is absolutely amazing. A one take like this is really hard to do. Congrats to LRR!
This was gorgeous and masterfully done. Kudos!
There is no couch comfortable enough to watch Friday nights
great video, i like the different shooting, and formats of your episodes you guys have been doing of late. keep it up.
I think this is my favorite Friday night episode, on first impression it isn't as funny or has as much personality as other episodes but in terms of execution it's 10/10
Wow, talk about taking it to the next level, what a beautifully shot skit!
Oh my God the effort is much appreciated! Love this.
Lol I really want to know Cam's Thalia list now! XD
I like it when Graham wins.
Awesome post-credits scene
I had to watch this a second time right after the first time because I had just put it on in the background and wasn't able to appreciate the smooth oneshot.
Great episode, I love the commander episodes so I can't wait to see more.
Lol at their commander references from Game Knights
Wait, what references? I didn't notice any apart from Kathleen playing the same commander.
sancturillore Kathleen’s high recasting cost for her commander and Graham’s suggestion of his 5 color commander for Cameron
Having a high recasting cost for a commander, and still hardcasting it when in late game(thus when having lots of mana available) is a normal thing in commander games that last for while. Loved this! Cool to see something a little different.
This might be my favorite episode thus far.
Man Kathleen's hair this episode is amazing
Also the cinematography of this episode is brilliant
Its all a beautiufl long shot
I also used to play edh games with inadvisably large numbers of players so the mention of turns followed by the realization of how long it’s been since someone made a game action is very relatable. The only difference is that someone actually knew whose turn it was without an investigative discussion
Very ambitious and I think it perfectly conveys the feeling of being in that 3 hour game.
This brought back so many fond memories
I love the new and invitive camera styles you guys use! Keep it up!! :D
This was my favorite episode so far
Great Friday Nights. Great technical work, great character interaction, great slice of life feel. Felt a bit like a setup for a Quentin Tarantino movie, but chill and everyone is ok.
This episode is so on flavour for commander; love it guys
This really is a testament to how far your shooting and writing and editing skills have come since you started. Well done.
I loved this episode. It was so relaxed
I love how true to form this is to casual and semi casual commander games I've played. Great job, good jokes
Wow this is possibly the best shot you guys have ever done :D
This was a great episode. Lots of callbacks and the one shot idea was not too bad. Hope there will be more of that style and "The Office" style of camera work from a previous episode. Plus it really felt like a nice game of EDH being played that they would actually do in their free time.
This was very well done! Cameramovement, acting, all very well done!
This is my favorite TY series!
Beautiful episode guys! Awesome long shot! The camera work reminded me of Reservoir Dogs' opening scene.
1) Well done capturing all the tangents most EDH games go on.
2) Bravo on the continuous shot. Very well done.
3) nice fic 8/10
This was a super bold episode to make and I loved it.
Jesus this was wholesome as heck. Brings back the feels after your hardcore days are over and everyone has found their comfortable niche.
Then Kathleen read the fanfic... *shudders*
