- Feline lower urinary tract disease is estimated to occur in 0.5% to 1% of cats. The most common causes include bacterial cystitis and urolithiasis. Other causes include fungal or parasitic urinary tract infection, crystalluria, anatomic abnormalities, trauma, neoplasia, and idiopathic disease. Medical management is recommended in most cats; however, occasionally the obstruction cannot be relieved or the distal urethra becomes stenosed, causing recurrent obstructions. Surgical correction is recommended in cats with irresolvable or recurrent obstructions or permanent urethral narrowing. The most common surgical procedure is perineal urethrostomy, where the wider postprostatic portion of the urethra is anastomosed to the skin to make a new urinary stoma.

Hi doctor, I have a cat 14yrs old and it is not urinating we are giving antibiotics with anti-inflammatory still no improvement.. I am from India there are no catheters available.. and for bladder evacuation we are doing abdomenocentisis.. please suggest what can be used for catheterisation.. I have placed 18 no. Iv cannula but still cat did not urinate.. there is blockage because I can able to push water into the urethra.. please suggest and give your valuable opinion

Hello Dr my cat is in big trouble this year in April his
urine output was blocked and I took him to the vet
where he passed him cat catheter once to remove
the blockage and my cat again got blocked. Vet
suggested us pu surgery urethrotomy and cat keeps
on blocking even after the surgery. Now in every
fifteen days a RT size 8 is sutured and fixed by the
other vet and if the RT is removed again n again my
cat is blocking. What should I do now mam. I can't
see him in such pain and I'm having no way that he
will be free from this blockage ( will you please
help us with your suggestions
Same with my cat. He already underwent surgery but still, the blockage is repeating.
My cat passed away on 22nd of this month , he suffered a lot , opting for urethral surgery will eventually lead to urethral narrowing because the size of urethra is already narrow . Best option is not to operate better to fix a cat catheter for 10days and proper bladder irritation to be done will definitely help in solving blockage
Wet food or urinary tract blend dry food if your cat is like mine and won’t eat wet. 2 years post op, he has never had another obstruction.
Hi doc..my cat went through UTI surgery however he still pee whenever he gets stressed or even cuddled. What could be the reason. The local vet did the surgery on him not able to give me a clear answer. I was told to give time for his bladder to heal. Pls advise. At the moment he is on antibiotics, amoxciline twice a day.

@Lafafa egt no no change at all..sadly I have to wait for a miracle. Actually, I took him to the vet to sort or alternative treatment and was put on propalin. It still did not work. Hope this doctor can advise.

Hello Doc Ferds, What if nagkaroon ulit ng blockage after how many months ng PU Surgery? Nahihirapan ulit umihi yung cat.
Doc please help my cat po ha kung anung pwedeng gawin sa akin cats na 2times na dumumi at 5times nagsuka po at walang ganang kumain at now medyo nawala na ang pagsusuka po nung pinainom ko siya ng maligamgam na tubig, okay na po kaya siya today? Mahigit 12hours na po din since na nagpoop at magvomiting siya kanina pero now huminto na po.

Doc yung male puspint namin sobra lakas umihi kahit tulog. Lagi tuloy mapanghi kahit bagong ligo. Pansin ko din pag naihi siya naka stretch paharap isang paa nya na parang na iistuck at ang tigas. Ano po kaya problema niya. TIA
My cat is operated on 16th may 2022 and still he is showing sign of obstruction, with ryles tube he is passing urine but once the tube is removed he showing obstruction. Now what is the solution, how he is going to spend all his life like this . Isn’t there any balloon catheter that we can fix in his bladder for atleast a month

@@laarnieermita your vet can use human folleys balloon catheter 8 size or RT size 8 or 10 but that need to be sutured in the opening part to make sure that it won’t come out atleast for 15 days post operatively

yung male cat din po namin nag-undergo ng PU surgery last Jan. 19, 2023 and ngayon po may times pa rin na nahirapan xa magwiwi, although clear na po yung ihi nya.. Will he be able na makabalik sa normal na pag-ihi po?

Pasensya napo ngayon lang ako nakapag open.ok napo cat ko.nung inulit surgery nya hindi agad gumaling kasi napupunit yung balat na pinagtahian parang nalulusaw sya naaalis yung tahi tapos hinayaan na ng vet nya na sya na lang maglinis sa sarili nya hanggang sa gumaling kusa yung sugat nya.inalis na lang ng vet nya ibang tahi na natira.lagi ko padin tsinetsek ang labasan ng ihi nya nag aalala padin ako sana hindi na magsara.

Doc nagka blockage po yung cat ko. Sobrang dami na daw niya crystals sa kidney. May pagasa pa po ba syang gumaling? Na-catheter na po sya at naconfine for 7 days. Tinanggal na po kanina yung catheter nya at umiihi sya ng konti lang. Pano po ba ang tamang pag aalaga sa cat ko? Tulungan niyo po ako sana please. Mahal na mahal ko po yung cat ko emotional support pet ko po siya e. :'(
Hello po! Nacatheter din po cat ko dalawang beses last December 2022 and now po, magsurgery po siya nitong PU. Try niyo po ibahin yung diet ng cat niyo to wet food or urinary s/o para po maiwasan yung crystals. Di po sila masyado matubig kaya dapat po hydrated din ang food and wag daw po puro commercial dry food. More water intake po. :) Basta po naiihi after catheterization, let’s keep fighting!
