Happy end of summer, early fall! : ) Have you worked with any of these patterns before? Any fun fall sewing plans that you have?! I'll keep you posted on how the jacket turns out--send good vibes hehe Happy Happy Sewing and creating!
I like rayon for lining anything. It's silky and smooth, but unlike polyester or acetate linings, rayon is still breathable. It makes for a much more comfortable wearing experience.
Thank you for sharing! 😁 I like that idea because one of my concerns is the lining fabric stretching out and I think rayon with a tiny smidge of spandex might mitigate that issue! Happy sewing! 🧵🪡
Okay with that type of quilted coat, all you really need to do is Hong Kong finish the insides! It’s going to be pretty. I personally wouldn’t even worry about a lining🎉
Oh, *immediately, goes to look up Hong Kong finish* 😅 love the tip! Thanks for sharing. I think the wind would whip right through this fabric-it’s quilted, but kinda thin.. I lovvve the option of the Hong Kong finish option for a gray jacket I’ll be whipping up though!! TY! If anybody else isn’t sure what a Hong Kong finish is, I found this great video. I’ll share here: ua-cam.com/video/Zv2MAxEnFGU/v-deo.htmlsi=lFgQduKVLba-NSYq
I agree with you on the workload of the French seams--but I love the look! A serger will definitely be my next big sewing purchase! Appreciate you being here and happy sewing!
I used the stretch thread - eloflex and it was great. I made some knit crepe pants and used cotton thread. Yep they split in the seam. I used the thread and no more problems. I bought my thread from Hobby Lobby but they only have two colors- black and white for $1.99- not bad. You will love sewing with the thread. Happy sewing
Oh, this is such great feedback! thank you so so much for sharing and I’m wondering if this is why previous pants of mine have split.. using the wrong thread.😆 happy happy creating!
My last few sewing projects have not fit properly because my body has changed or just have something that needs fixing and I’ve been feeling so discouraged and frustrated with sewing lately. But watching your videos helps me stay motivated to keep trying.
Rachel Ann, oh, you have some beautiful fabrics I can't wait to see all the outfits you make with the fabrics. I usually go with the traditional lining fabric it will say lining fabric on the bolt it comes in three colors white, cream, and black JoAnn may carry more colors, but I am not sure. Rachel using the correct needle is a must to get the best result. Most sewing machines have a zigzag or lighting stitch to use when sewing with knits.
Thank you so much, Mary! I am definitely going to check out the lining fabric at Joann’s to see what they have. 😊 I agree about the needle! That was definitely something new that I have learned but it really does make such a difference! Also going to check for the lighting stitch you mentioned. Thank you for the tips and for being here!
I've used the eloflex thread, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. I hemmed a t-shirt using a straight stitch. It hasn't broken, but it definitely feels like it's tight when I straighten out my hem while I'm wearing it. I don't know if I'd feel confident using it for workout gear. Definitely test it first. Also, I read that you should hand wind your bobbin, so I did that. Gutterman makes Maraflex thread and Mettler makes Seraflex. I'd like to try those and compare.
This is great feedback. I had also read the same thing about hand winding it in the bobbin so I’ll definitely be trying that strategy too. I think it’ll be interesting to see how it sews up with a workout top so we will see. Thanks again for the other suggestions and feedback! Happy sewing!🪡🧵
If your fabric is washable for the quilted jacket make sure your lining is also. I like linings that have an easy on texture, when you are sliding your arm into the sleeve while wearing a long sleeve top. Can’t wait to see the finished results.
Yessss- such a great tip! Thank you for sharing! I think my next task is to go check out lining fabrics at Joann’s and I will keep that easy on texture suggestion in mind. Happy sewing and appreciate you being here!🌷
Thanks for sharing- good to hear that you have enjoyed it! I’ll be interested to see how it works with the workout clothes. 😬😆 appreciate you being here! Happy sewing! 🧵🪡
Fantastic idea! That never even crossed my mind, but makes so much sense. Definitely going to check out local thrift stores for a quilted spread. Thank you so much for sharing!🙌🙌
I got a gorgeous quilted double size quilted bed duvet cover in PINK ❤ & I love it 🥰 from a charity shop & really cheap too 😁 I also wanna make a quilted coat but not sure which pattern & weather to line it or not 🤔 I’ve got a quilted bomber type of jacket that I think I will try 😬 wish me luck lol & can’t wait to see what ur coat turns out like 😁 xx@@dineincreativity
I’m excited about that quilted fabric you have! I made a “quilted” jacket last year that I am excited to wear again this year (I live in Virginia). The fabric is kinda quilted and I love it. I used AllWell Cardigan Coat with contrasting bias binding. I got the pattern from their book at the library. Now that I have seen your fabric I want to make another!❤
Oh. My. Goodness. I just looked up that pattern and it is so so cute! Thank you so much for sharing. I am going to add that to my Etsy cart-I need to start trying indie patterns! I lived in Virginia for 8 years and loved it so much! Appreciate you being here and happy happy sewing to you!🌷🧵🪡
Bemberg Rayon is my all time favorite lining material for everything unless I need a jacket for a very cold day, then I line with a specialty lining fabric, which I dont think is what you need for the jacket/coat you plan on making

Welcome! Thanks for being here😁If you click on the link, it should give you the option to look at the other colors. May have to click around for a bit, but the other knit trims should show up! Sounds like you’ve got some fun sewing plans. Happy sewing! 🌷🧵🪡
I just discovered your account and subscribed of course…….I stopped the video at minute 3 and jumped on Joann to buy the pink coral fabric……is either gone already or the online store is out…..any suggestions?
Welcome! Happy to have you here! I think you're talking about the quilted jacket fabric? It was a last chance fabric in the clearance section of the store believe or not...I would go to the Joann's near you and see if they may have a bolt still in.... I hope you're able to find it!

The French seams are more work than a serger but the French seams look so much better.
If you sew a lot of knits , you would like the serger

I like bengaline. It’s soft and smooth against the skin and not too expensive
Thank you so much for this suggestion!🧵🪡🌷
oh err what’s Bengaline plzzz 🤔 I’ve never heard of it before 😳 xx
If you want to make a toile of the quilted jacket look for a cheap bed quilt in a thrift shop.

I was thinking of doing that pattern 😁 xx
Beautiful fabrics and patterns. You will have a wonderful fall wardrobe.
Thank you so much🌷I got started on the first piece today! Excited and looking forward to trying out these new patterns!
Beautiful quilted fabric, I agree french seams would be an option. Love all your fabric! 😊
Thank you! 😊
That 💚 green is stunning on you
Thank you sew much🌷
Make sure the coral fabric doesn’t have a nap. You may have to cut in one direction if it does or end up with a two colored dress
Great tip! Thank you! 🌷🧵🪡
Bemberg rayon- most suggested fabric for lining garments. TbH , I have not used it, but I plan to 😊
Rayon has come up a couple times now! Definitely going to look for it 😁 Thank you so much for sharingthis suggestion! 🧵🪡

I hate Eloflex thread, DID NOT work for me, so disappointing 😮
Oh no! I still haven’t worked with it yet, but I am wondering how it’s going to turn out. I’m glad to have a heads up though.😊 happy sewing!

Did u buy your thread at Joanne’s?
I did! They have it in many different colors 😊
The leftover fabric the orange color make pair of biker shorts to go with your sweater for workout.
That’s a good idea! Could double as an errand running set or something 😊 happy sewing!
