Best repair wheel video, and UK one as well, that I have seen. Thanks for the post.
Wow, thanks!
You are the only person i seen who was smart enough to use a suction cup. My friend you are a Gentleman and a Scholar
Top stuff. I've got a couple of spray guns but never know how to set them up properly, especially with a 2K clear. A video on that if time allows would be awesome! Learnt loads so far
Noted buddy, Thanks for watching!
A brilliant repair. I'm so glad I found your channel. 10/10 and enjoying going through all your videos.
Awesome
Excellent video, no waffle and explains what do if you’re broke and don’t have the top equipment
That is exactly how it was intended
Tip: use the time you spend cleaning the tire and sticking that tape all over it to simply remove the wheel, do the usual prep (somewhere comfortable), then just stick some recipe/ note cards in between the wheel and tire before painting. It's faster, and you don't have to worry about any overspray, which you've gotten all over the brake componants.
Playing cards work too 👍
Really nice job! Thanks for teaching us how to paint!
Glad you like the channel
Definitely the most helpful channel out there for cosmetic car repairs 👍
Great video and lovely English accent thank you from Australia :)
appreciate the sub and the compliment ha
Nice method. Can't be bothered refinishing an entire wheel for a little curb rash. But a paint pen touch up wont do either. Will give it a go.
That's exactly the point of this video mate 👍🏻
This is the right way to do it. Kudos! 👏 I use pretty much the same technique. Each time would cost $175, but it is almost free to do it myself...after buying sandpaper, compound, spray paint, tape, and some paper.
Nice work mate
nice! when i do these repairs i use a spot clear blender to help with the hard lines.. awesome video!!
These videos are brilliant
Looks fantastic
Looks great when you have the tools!
I think this is easily applicable to a diy set up
Can you send me list of tools please
Love your work mate, so glad i found your channel. Top work 👍👌
Good stuff
Little decreaser on the tire helps. I do this same exact process. But I think I'll adopt your sanding routine, seems better.
I used degreaser 👍🏻
@CVR POV ah did ya? I must've gotten mixed up. I think it's funny that we both do wheels and have a youtube channel lol.
@CVR POV do they pay decent? Over here it's a bit of a hidden gem. People make around 80k a year where I'm at repairing rims.
@CVR POV checking out your channel more now, which type of body work did you start your company off with?
I NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT GENIUS ,
Really instructive, I’ve got 4 to do but I will be taking them off the car, looking forward to giving it a try now !
Great stuff
Love it, Brilliant video !
After I watched your video I order from you hopefully I’ll give it try and n see if I can repair my wheel rims.excellent video
Good luck 👍🏻. Don't forget I have other videos In wheel repair too
Hi
Once again professionally executed,👍🏻 looks really good!
Thank you brother!
Thanks for watching
Always really good videos. Thanks 👍
Nice one steve
I know you was heating it which would speed up the drying time but you put your laquer on straight after painting..would you not give it 10-25 mins to dry before adding the top coat. I followed the video and added 2k air dry laquer as a clear coat after waiting 40 mins for the silver to dry.. wheel looks like a pro did it. Thanks for the upload buddy!
When using aerosol products always allow longer drying times
Same crap with armral interior cleaner that really does not clean the car interior wash with damp rag dry then dampen a rag in olive oil and apply a light coat of the oil it will actually miniatures the plastics makes them look like new and can be removed with soap and water unlike armral expressly if you need to paint down the road ..
Great job on fixing the rim.
Wrong video?
Nice work 👏
Great Video! Thanks!
Beautiful
Great video explained very well
Glad it was helpful!
Besutiful repair man. Good job.
amazing, i think it would be doable for a reasonably competent diy,er. . thanks for your video, could have done with this in the 70/80s, Cortina wheels and the like. cheers rodders
Glad the video helped mate
I couldn't understand when you said the color of the silver. Sounded like moon silver? Great video!
Really, amazing job!
Thankyou
Great Video, is it not worth masking the brake pads / discs with a plastic bag ?
Yes it is worth it
Really good job 👏 i have all the different grit sand papers and some resin, sanded, filled and sanded afain ready to paint. Is it ok use hairdryer instead of heatgun?
Love your videos
Thanks Chris
looks great, the only thing i would have done was cover up all the spaces in between the spokes with towels or whatever.
I'm struggling to feather where the kerb rash has caused flaking paint. It keeps getting knocked off in chunks as I get closer to a smooth sand. Going to try filler primer. Any tips? Doesn't need to be perfect, but I'd like to get rid of the hairline that primer, paint and lacquer can't gloss over.
Great video great channel
Thanks kkk
When I repair a wheel I've found it easier to use some paint sample metal panels rather than masking the tyre off. You can get them right into the edge of the wheel and it's much quicker than masking off.
I use these too sometimes
When the tyre hugs the rim really tightly they can be a nightmare. Fall out so easily and can catch the repaired area, if the paints wet you're back at square 1 and it's infuriating
can u do this same method on wheel lacquer bubbling?
Very good.....Didn't cover up the brake disc s...lol
Might of eaten into my 10 minutes lol
Lmao
@@cvrpov Love it mate
@@cvrpovvery lazy, if you had done that for me and I had paint on my calipers and rotors you wouldn't have got paid for it.
Can you recommend a tool that can be used to sand/grind as well as polish.
Are all silver alloy wheel paints the same ? All I can find in cans is a silver alloy wheel paint. Nothing too specific like paint codes etc. I have a 2013 VW Golf
Ford moondust silver is a good allrounder
@@cvrpov thanks again
Fade out thinners in a spray can to melt any over spray edges .
Yep If u have some
Great video! Can you tell me what your spray gun is set at so it only comes out at that little?
I use the lph 80 from iwata for these tiny repairs
Hi great video, is it necessary to apply the lacquer whilst the paint is still drying or could I apply the next day for example?
The lacquer has to be applied withing a time frame and leaving it overnight is too long
Good job. Does the lacquer stick okay to the alloy even where you haven't prepared the area for painting? I have a little repair to do on an alloy and would love to have that shiny finish as seen on yours after lacquer
Scotch the area for adhesion
Do I need to paint the repair or could I just use silver wheel polish? See a few channels say that polish is all you need?
What color silver you used? It looked good
Ford moondust silver is a good all rounder
As a professional i would have thought the extra 30 seconds it would take to apply a cover over the disc and caliper behins the wheel would have done 2 things.
Show you care
Stop any over spray of silver or laquer fron potentially showing up behind the wheel.
i was about to say the same thing .... even down to ramming a bit of cloth "in & over" , away from paint area
I’d suggest removing the wheel from the drum. This allows you to place it on a workbench. If the repair is near the edge of the rim, de pressurize the tire
Good job...
If you did use rattle cans would you recommend any type
Most base are ok but source a good 2k clear
@@cvrpov ok thanks pal
Just curious do you have to fill the part of the rim that’s been sanded?
You can use old pack 3:25 of playing Cards between tyre & wheel
Yes I've done this before
Looks good 👍
Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing you knowledge and your experience!!
My pleasure!
Good job! I have a little different issue that maybe you can help with. Forged Aluminum wheels with a brushed look mostly, but the higher ribs are sanded glossy. The glossy ribs have several damaged areas, such as chips, dings, shallow cavity areas. So it would take a whole lot of sanding and lowering of the ribs wholesale, to get to shiny levels. Or, is there a way to say put Helioarc aluminum in first to fill and then sand? Thanks!
Maybe check out my other vids in wheel repair playlist mate
A couple of friends who are more skilled than me, said the damage is beyond cosmetic so don't buy them@@cvrpov
handy channel this one
Thanks for the support
I am curious how do you figure out what paint color to use?
Any tips for diamond cut
Is it safe to go through a car wash and pressure wash these rims etc after they have been repaired and dried?
yes once fully dried/cured
I really like your video
Nice job 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi mate,
Is it possible to re-paint it with spray paint and clear coat aerosols?
Yes definitely
Which Equipment you use,good Job.
Realistically how long does it take for the paint to dry using this method? Everywhere I look it says to allow 24 hours to cure but as it’s my daily driver I need to use it still. Is there a specific paint brand you use?
Use a fast drying 2k clear
@@cvrpov thank you for the response, i really appreciate it
looks great 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks pal
Are you using 2k lacquer ?
Good job..
how did he avoid painting the brake discs behind the wheel ?
What color is that ?
What sander did you use? Was it the 50 or 75 mm? Cheers
Do you get any over spray. If so can you buff it out?
yes and yes
How do you find out the colour of paint for the wheels?
A good general colour is ford moondust silver
Hi mate, how did you know primer wasnt needed? When should primer be used?
I've done many wheels without primer which is frowned upon. They seem to hold up fine tho without
Be great to see another video on this with rattle cans
Great video. What's the model of the sander please
Probably a cheap ebay one if I remember. Or my cordless drill milwaukee
What is colour code for the silver wheels
Yes. I do like it
🎉
Oh and what grit is that scuffpad pls?
How much would this kind of repair cost?
What should I paid for a repair like this in scotland uk per rim?
I have to do mine BUT does the heat gun not ignite the spray fumes?
Does it look like it ignited any thing 😂😂😂😂
@@davidtaylor3013 I don't see what's so hilarious about the question. Paint mixed with atomised and highly flammable thinners and a heat gun with a glowing red hot nozzle looks like it may be possible for it to ignite the vapours. But I don't know, which is why I asked the question.
Awesome man! But, how do you know how much to sand down? Because you might end up changing the shape of the edge so it looks different to the surrounding area?
The further you sand down the further you Will need to feather out
@@cvrpov nice one, thanks man!
Interesting that you don't use any primer or adhesion promoter. Is it gonna peel away from aluminum if you don't use any primer?
I have painted wheels many times with no issues. I did my father in laws 2 years ago with still no problems
@@cvrpov thanks, good to know
Why not mask out the brake caliper behind too? Spray must have got through
I'd recommend doing this yes
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Awesome
Cheers
Worthwhile buying a spray gun if i have the compressor ?
Defo
So how much that cost to a customer ?
The instructions on my base coat rattle can say to wait 24 hours before putting on the clear 😮 does this really matter?
I'd recommend not doing that to be honest. 3 coats spread apart. 5 - 10 mins apart then wait maybe 10-15 mins and apply clear
Being a complete novice 🤣 would it be easier for me to lacquer the the hole wheel?(wheel of car) am not to confident and ending up with a line where tape is. Av sprayed with satin black paint for bits on a motorbike before. But never a lacquer/clear coat. Thanks stu.
I'd you feel more confident doing that then do it 👍🏻
You're never gonna see that small of transition on a wheel
what tools did you use? for painting, sanding etc?
Watch the video or my other videos
Thanks
What size compressor would you use for mobile work to run those die grinders, DAs, etc and to paint?
90 litre 3hp abac belt driven
@@cvrpov thanks a lot brother
what is the best website or book for rim paint codes ?
What colour do u need
CAUTION: Spraying exposed brakes could allow for brake pads to become, "gummed-up", reducing efficiency of braking power, which could lead to increased risk of a crash. Remove the wheel or properly protect the brakes before painting.
I did this in a brand new rental bmw. Good times
At least you could fix the problem
Wow, great job. Do you have any videos on how to fix aluminum polished rims? It would be the ones that come as stock rims in dodge challengers. Thanks in advance.
Check my wheel repair playlist
Your talking like we no what 180/130 grip means can you please explain? You say 130/then go up to 180 grip which I don’t understand why you go up and then down ? Do you mean the diffrent roughness of the sanding paper? Also is their a special sand paper? Or can I just buy paper from any DIY? If so would I ask for a 180/130 grip is that what you mean?so I mean dose grip mean the roughness of the sanding paper? I’m wanting to do this to my car and I’m no mechanic or car re sprayer I’m nothing so could u poss explain these things to me??also how do you find out what Color silver your mini alloy is?where can I find this out??also I don’t have a spray gun like you do so this video seems really for people who have all the needed tools so is their anything else I can use? Uno when you get the correct Color paint dose it come in a spray tin? Is it possible to use a spray tin as i Dnt have what you have? I’m quiet good with spray tins but iv never tried on a car alloy. I hope this makes sense? I no it’s a lot of questions?
Maybe watch some other videos. I've done loads. You will get the process and understand the grits. The lower number the grit the MORE coarse it is. Ie 80grit being very coarse and 1500 grit being less course
@@cvrpov ok so can I used standard wood paper or dose it has to be a certain type of paper? And is it possible to sand buy hand as I do not have any other option . Also how do u find the correct silver Color for the alloy wheels that’s needed ? I can’t imagine getting the right Color in a tin is easy? As that part id also have to do buy hand ?
