"This Love"
Bonnie has returned to Mystic Falls, but encounters difficulties to reajust to her old life.
Damon notices the changes and worries about her.
But unbeknowst to him he also experienced and continues to change aswell; his feelings for Bonnie are getting stronger.
Damon wants Bonnie to feel save again, but Kai's presence brings only painful memories.
She looses control, and Damon starts to realize the tortures she'd endured.
Damon fears he lost her, and holds Kai responsible for Bonnie's breakdown. Damon wished he'd could do more to ease her pain.
His changes are noticed by his mother, and Damon wants by any means prevent his mother from using the witch.
Damon tries to convience Bonnie to be resilient; concerning his mother wanting the ascendant.
But fed up off being always second choice and being the one who has to swoop in to save everyone else ;except herself, Bonnie opens up to Damon.
Damon remembers her saving him, how she made him feel save & alive... she knows him better than anybody else.
He wont admit it but as usual she was right, he is scared ... scared about his true feelings for her!

Bonnie and Damon 's friendship blossoming to real couple, could be exactly what would make them unbreakable. They have not burnt nor rushed the different steps of building their relationship.

I think Damon didn't realized it at the time , his feelings had already started to shift. Bonnie made his heart beat a little faster, him smiling more and him wanting to protect her. She became his equal, the one who accepted him for who he was.

No she thought he wanted to get Bonnie back so that Bonnie can vouch how he’s changed and good he is to Elena . Because she has no memories of loving him .. so she thought it was for that but later on .. he tells Elena that’s he’s trying to get bonnie back because she sacrificed herself for him and nothing to do with her vouching for him to Elena .

Apparently the writers would have had stelena as endgame if Nina didn’t leave so I’m wondering if they wanted to head down the route of Bamon but knowing them they would have killed Damon off instead of Stefan and left bonnie alone like they did
