  • In this episode, Mwelwa sits down with the President of the Zambia Association of Manufacturers, Ashu Sagar to discuss the impact of power outages on the economy. Ashu highlights that the 12-hour power outages are causing significant disruptions to production, leading to increased costs and loss of market share. He stresses the need for cost-reflective tariffs, open access to the grid for Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and smart metering to ensure a stable and efficient energy supply. Ashu also emphasises the importance of diversifying the energy mix, removing excise duty on captive power, and proactive deal-making to address the energy crisis.
