Thanks for highlighting the patio. I'd like to see more as you work through it to completion. I think there's tremendous value in the ability of hardscape to accentuate the softscape. Even the details of doing hardscaping well would be of interest to many (like me) on your channel. I greatly appreciate the art and professionalism that you bring to each element of your overall landscape.
Our local Master Gardener group will be hosting their annual home tours around town. It’s my favorite…I love to look and walk around other gardens. Always pick up some really good ideas, and can see what plants do really well in our area. Great video! 👩🏼🌾
Must be a good year for Acanthus. David Sabio from The Yarden channel said he was surprised at his blooming this year also in Raleigh, NC. Beautiful! Thanks for the content.
Thanks for pointing out the native viburnum and its benefit. Hoping u continue to add more. The Indian pink is a native. I think the one u have is a nativar but the humming birds love it. They really attract neighbors walking by. We plant them in larger groups. New patio looks great
I feel the same. My serviceberries, blueberries, figs, cherries, etc. I don’t worry about the birds. I love to watch them and they have to eat too 🌳🌳🌳🐕
Jim, such a great video. I have a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud... so beautiful. I've learned & been inspired by your videos. Thank you from Central VA. Zone 7a.
Man, great home and neighborhood garden tours! Love to see it. Exciting progress on the patio, too. Got over two inches of rain in a day earlier this week where I'm at; would send some of it over your way if I could. Fingers crossed you guys get a drinka water soon, but things are looking great regardless. Cheers!
Hi Jim, loved the info today on the flamethrower redbud. I love redbuds but just had to remove two pink redbuds from my garden. They were 6+ years old and in the last few years the bark stated cracking and limbs started dying off. Fungus? I don’t know but they were a bear to get out. The root system was massive. I also had a Forest Pansy that got snapped in half during a storm. I’d like to find another location and plant a flamethrower or Ruby Falls. Any suggestions for better success?
My acanthus summer beauty took 4 years to bloom! and this season it’s full of blooms. Excited to see it finally. I read they take years to bloom after a move.
I had no clue, though I should have, how hard on ya stonework is. My gosh, there are a lot of talented folks who do, do stonework. The UK, Europe, really EVERYWHERE that I can think of, has amazing stonework. Thanks for opening my eye to yet another talented, study bunch.
I had the same experience with my acanthus. My brother brought it for me from Seattle about 4 years ago. It struggled all those years and produced no blooms. This year I have one bloom so I guess I'll keep it.
Stonework looks great! We've had about four inches of rain over the last week, just west of you, and now it's much cooler. Enjoying the low temps and humidity!
Man that Acanthus is GORGEOUS!!! I’m waiting for mine to bust loose. This gives me hope. Can’t wait to see your patio. I love the mixture. Holly is adorable 🌳🌳🌳🐕
That patio puts the finishing touch to your beautiful garden!!!! It gave me a good laugh when you said “whoa this is not good for me long term”😂….it was just the way you said it. That is hard work!!! Really looks nice!!!❤
I think it is interesting that you have added more annuals into blank areas because of your open yard in June. OMG, there is SOOO much other stuff to look at. I personally like some blank areas knowing that I’m looking for just the right thing!
The patio is STUNNING! I love everything about it - even though you will not be doing a tutorial or 'how to'... I would love to see any updates before the finished product. Holly and Griffin = ❤❤
Thank you! I can keep up my hope that my Acanthus Mollis I started from seed spring 2022 and just done nothing will hopefully bloom this summer! Fun fact, it’s called Bears claw in Sweden. 😁
Wish I could send some of our middle TN rain 💦 that’s all it’s been doing here! Finally able to get out in the garden the past couple days 💚 Everything there is looking so beautiful 😍
I am so looking forward to the open house! I live at the coast but it’s an east drive into Raleigh, and totally worth it to meet y’all and see your beautiful garden! Can’t wait!!!!!
Great video, as usual! When you and Stephanie start traveling again, I wish you'd visit the youtuber who has the "My Therapy Garden". He actually has a lot of good stuff going on, and I love to see his channel get a boost.
The patio looks so good! I really love the "mixed media" look with your use of different materials. I'm not sure who films the separate footage of the individual plants but I always enjoy that, it's a really nice addition to the video. 💚 Wish I could attend the open house so much, but we have a work event that day. Maybe next time!
Can you share the source for the shovel with the small head you used in the beginning of the video? I’ve been looking for one of those for a couple years. Love your videos.
Question for tomorrow: I have a a Cemellia Reticulata Hybrid “Francie L.” and a large tree branch fell on it, while I was cutting it. Took off 2 feet of the 6 foot plant. Has a nice straight upright center trunk, what can I do to re promote active growth or increase growth on that main trunk. Really want to get it back to where it was.
I’ve been a follower from your beginning at the other home. I’m also local and would love to attend a class on how to create a similar patio in my small SE Ral. home garden. Looking forward to a response. Thanks!
Jim, I was getting ready to ask about acanthus mollis and you beat me to it! My daughter bought one for Mother’s Day at the NC Zoo plant sale today and I haven’t seen one. Love all the info yall share❤ btw, Holly enjoys the shrubs and ajuga😂😂
the landscaping is great, Jim is very knowledgeable, but the problem is he's so damn handsome that my eyes are drawn to him and I forget to look at what he's highlighting for us.
QUESTION PLEASE: do you find the blueberry plants easy to grow? I have acidic soil a little northwest of you near Knoxville, tn, 6b/7a, and i would love to grow blueberries, but I have never tried food plants or trees. I really would like to grow blueberries and maybe some fruit trees, but haven't done so, because I was afraid of needing to do a bunch of fertilizer or pesticides, and I don't use either. Im like you, red clay soil with a ton of chipdrops, and no pesticides. What fruit shrubs and trees do you find are the most trouble -free? Maybe you could do an episode about the easiest to grow food crops. I know every area is different, but those of us relatively similar to yours would be able to probably get similar results. Thanks for all your help, I have been watching you every day for a year or two now, and for some reason, I stay motivated when you show the drone footage of you spreading wood chips and stuff, lol, it's like a nudge for me to get off the couch. Yard work is nice because it's so satisfying looking at the results, instant gratification, even if only a section of the yard at a time. I like breaking the yard up into manageable sections at a time so I don't get discouraged. Also, i saw that ugly cedar apple rust alien formation on my eastern red cedar this week, and I'm having it removed because I planted a profusion crabapple a couple years ago, and I hope removing that cedar will let my crabapple stay healthy, since I don't see any other cedars near me. I should have taken my cedar out when I planted the crabapple but my crabapple is supposed to be resistant but when I saw that orange alien thing on the cedar, I don't want to keep it. I like crabapple trees better than eastern red cedar.
That Royal Purple Smoke tree is interesting looking, I have never seen anything like that. From the video angle, to me, it kind of looks like it is wearing a feather (scarf) boa : )
Jim, I have an Asian Pear that had what I'm told was "rust" last year. I do not know if it was Cedar Apple Rust. Having it once, does that mean this tree will always have it? If so, what can I do to prevent it? Is it too late to do something this year? Thank you. 😊
Hey Jim, I’ve been subscribed for a while. Found your channel when I was searching the name Putnam. Was just curious what would I could find to add to my genealogical research. I am an avid novice gardener here in Central NY, zone 5b. By any chance do you have any genealogical knowledge? I found my line all the way back to Thomas Putnam. He and his daughter Anne were accusers during the Salem Witch trials. Kind of dark for my branch (haha), but extremely fascinating history.

Showing your neighbors garden is my favorite ❤🥰❤️
Me too 🌼
Yes Jim. A video or two on patio laying with recycled materials. 😊 please🙏😊
I hope you didn’t get the heavy , heavy storms we got Wed night! In N GA. Saw the horrendous damage to Creekside Nursery!
Looks like I'm binge watching your videos today❤
Filming the installation of the patio would be beneficial to the "Learn to Garden" series

Wow. That Flamethrower!! Thanks for sharing.
12:41 thank u for the patio update
Thanks for pointing out the complexity of growing plants and trees like redbuds. Knowing the issues, a gardener can take precautions.
Love the patio area! That’s beautiful
Yay! Another Jim video! I’m wondering if you can take a shot from the street to see what your neighbors see!
Lol.
My dogs love to run the pathways in my garden.😊
I love the colors and textures in the back garden that pan out behind you. So pretty!
Must be a good year for Acanthus.
David Sabio from The Yarden channel said he was surprised at his blooming this year also in Raleigh, NC. Beautiful!
Thanks for the content.
In Raleigh also and have 5 flower spikes this year! First time ever.
Thanks for pointing out the native viburnum and its benefit. Hoping u continue to add more. The Indian pink is a native. I think the one u have is a nativar but the humming birds love it. They really attract neighbors walking by. We plant them in larger groups. New patio looks great
For the heat, Salvia and Lantana are great choices.

Jim, such a great video. I have a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud... so beautiful. I've learned & been inspired by your videos. Thank you from Central VA. Zone 7a.
Loving your patio and all the plantings! JUST LOVE SEEING HOLLY AND SILLY GRIFFIN IN THE WINDOW!!! KUDOS TO YOU & STEPH👏👍💕
I love a social patio, looks great so far.
The penstemon with agave is incredible! Thank you again for all your helpful information.
Star jasmine is ok ... but i think stephanotis" jasmine" and pink jasmine are underused!
Man, great home and neighborhood garden tours! Love to see it. Exciting progress on the patio, too. Got over two inches of rain in a day earlier this week where I'm at; would send some of it over your way if I could. Patio looks sweet!

The patio is gonna look dope. Looking forward to walking on it next month.

Dribble dropping is what we call bird spit. 🙂 The patio is looking great!
We always called it Mother Nature’s French kiss! 😀
So happy to see your little honey oakleaf hydrangea! Mine is doing well so far. The summer will be the real test.
Oh Holly! What a sweet baby!!
Pretty sure that was a cat bird on the service berry Jim. Patio is going to be great!
The patio is looking beautiful what a nice area
We have had so much rain in Chesapeake, VA. My new perennial beds are loving it!!
Stonework looks great! We've had about four inches of rain over the last week, just west of you, and now it's much cooler. Enjoying the low temps and humidity!

Good morning jim
I love mixed material patios. Looking forward to seeing the end product.
That patio puts the finishing touch to your beautiful garden!!!! It gave me a good laugh when you said “whoa this is not good for me long term”😂….it was just the way you said it. That is hard work!!! Really looks nice!!!❤

When do we get an update on the yard you were renovating last year??
I am so looking forward to the open house! I live at the coast but it’s an east drive into Raleigh, and totally worth it to meet y’all and see your beautiful garden! Can’t wait!!!!!
I'm so envious of everyone that is close enough to attend - have a wonderful, wonderful time!
@@marybeth4002 thank you!!! Wish everyone could come!
원더풀! 정성이 가득한 아름다운 영상입니다 너무예쁘요^^ 잘감상했습니다.😄❤❤❤
Thank you Jim and Stephany, your garden looks amazing ! 💐💚🙃
Love the patio!!!

Do you have plant sale during open house? Thank you.
LOL, while I was watching the video I wondered where Griffin went to!! ❤
Does Holly miss the grass?
Can you share the source for the shovel with the small head you used in the beginning of the video? I’ve been looking for one of those for a couple years. Love your videos.
Question. is the flame thrower a hybrid? will the seeds grow flame thrower or a variation of some other redbud?

Love the new garden design and patio. Is the fountain going on the stone path that leads to nowhere? Thank you for telling us about dwarf zinnias.

can red bud flame throwers be grown in Florida zone 9a?
Where did you get your pots that flank your walkway in the front yard?
I think it was a catbird in your tree

Wish l could jot down the names of your flowering perennials. I live in Norfolk and have weather similar to yours.
I pause the video and/or take screen shots to capture plants I’m interested in.
You could also use the transcript, you get the information there it's below the video
