I've had the same indexer for a number of years. I have reversed the spindle so the collet end is away from the indexing plate. It allows me to mill very close to the collet with small short endmills. I also milled the base to be parallel to the spindle axis so I can just put it into the mill vice w/o having to spend time clamping it to the table. It also allows me to set the indexer at angles from horizontal. Makes it easy to make three corner reamers to any size.
Good deal Stuart. You want to consider skimming off the base sides ( where you chipped the paint ) parallel to the bore so that you can grip it in your vice on parallels. Will save clamping and dialing it in for quick jobs. The handle falling off the collet tube is standard for these Chinese indexers. Dog point the screws and drill a clearance hole in the tube. You should get many Years of use out of it, I have so far with mine. My pressure spray arrived yesterday too. Great item thanks for the information. Regards from Australia.
Brilliant tip Dave - I had not made that leap yet but will definitely do that. I know some people also drill a few holes in the base - not sure that's necessary. They never seem to end up in the best spot. But being able to clamp in the vise is great. Glad the pressure sprayer arrived safely - seems like that didn't take too long. Glad to help any time! Appreciate your input as always, great tips making for better use of the tools. Cheers!
Are you compensating for the longer stem of the indicator? The longer stem will cause an error in the reading from the standard length, indicating less than the correct reading. The manufacturer will give the correction factor for the longer stem. Or did the indicator come with the longer stem, installed by the manufacturer, with the compensation built into the dial markings? By the way, the Phase II is also a Chinese import. It’s just an inexpensive brand name, with decent quality.
Hello! Thanks so much for your excellent point. It did not occur to me to mention that, so I appreciate you bringing it up. This DTI actually comes with the long arm as standard and is compensated in the dial. After I posted this video a friend of mine mentioned the same info regarding Phase II which I was unaware of previously. Good to have the facts here on record. Thanks again and all the best!
Stuart, if you don't want to eat these Golden Balls, send them to me. I have no problems with it 😋. It looks like you've bought a new, useful tool. Looks good.
Be careful! When those little golden balls get in the shop, they get everywhere and wreak havoc! I'm pleased with this tool - I see a lot of videos of how people like to modify them - not sure any of that is necessary but I also understand the enjoyment of making things unique and to suit one's own way of working.
A new tool always makes a guy smile! Glad it checked out to be an accurate tool for your use.
Thanks Ed - I freely admit to being a bit of a tool freak.

Brilliant ideas. I have since machined the edges of my spindexer - makes it very easy to use.

How many degrees are the vernier holes away? 9 or 11 degrees?
11 degrees between each vernier hole.
