AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on UA-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!
George is my brother. So I've already heard this story several times directly from him. The most amazing part is the sheer coincidence - how you two became neighbors and how you met just before you fell ill.
Growing up, our mother, a neurologist and psychiatrist, and our father, a professor in pediatric surgery, instilled in us a strong Christian background and the importance of helping others. This was simply part of who we were. So, it came as no surprise to hear about the support and hospitality my brother provided Sean. He would still do the same today without any hesitation at all.
In the post-communist times, personal connections, friendships, and community support were still crucial. Things often relied on these personal networks.
It is such a wonderful story! I'm delighted to see Sean doing well after all these years. It's also fascinating to see Sean's perspective of Slovakia from over 30 years ago. It's a helpful reminder of how things were back then. So much has changed since then. Honestly, I'd forgotten how dull, grey, and depressing Bratislava used to seem. But perhaps it was just a perception. In reality, there were undoubtedly moments of joy and happiness, especially when you connected with good friends and things turned out well.
Sean, thank you for sharing this lovely story. I wish you and your family all the best. It was very kind of you to contact George. I know it made him very happy.
Kind regards,
Eddie
Thank you for sharing!!
@CarlasLovingWife thanks for watching! 🙏
Thanks Eddie for sharing! Blessings to you and yours!
I've followed LoLoHo for years. This is the best post you guys have ever made. Very touching..
Thanks so much. This is by far the most personal video we have ever posted. I’m so pleased to finally be able to share this once in a lifetime story with our community. I really appreciate you guys sticking with us over the years and for giving the story a chance. Thanks again, I appreciate your support more than you know.
Thank you for sharing. Banana slicer validating your story. I think you help tell us that we should be getting out either big travels or small. Thank you for sharing a most wonderful message and have a great day.
Banana slicers are internationally valued and treasured! 😁🍌
Oh Sean, you are such a great storyteller.
The world needs more George's.
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, a world of Georges would be a wonderful place 😊
I wish there were awards for UA-camrs. This is a phenomenal episode worthy of the highest honor. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Richard. This is my all-time favorite video that people are giving it a chance. I appreciate your kind words more than you know! 🙏
You have had so many amazing experiences!
I enjoy hearing you tell your stories!
Un - fricken Believable Dude ! Purely Devine Providence meeting George & his Physician father. Wow what a lifetime experience!

You took us to a place we never would have been to. God watched over you back then and now!
What a great story! Nearly brought tears to this old man thinking of so many friends of the past. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you. Yes I have the same emotions when I was working on the video. It definitely brought tears to my eyes to go back and review all of the postcards and letters and photos. Many long dormant memories were starred back up to the surface. That’s what life is all about. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your comments.
Outstanding and incredible story. Thanks for sharing. I think maybe of all your outstanding videos this may top them all. And, you were so lucky to have a guarding angel show up to take care of you. Wow!
Wow! What an exceptional story and a stellar presentation. Your video is extraordinarily well done! Thank you!
Thank you so much! The story was very special to me and I invested a lot of time putting together this video. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I hope I was able to do it justice with this video. I’m so happy to be able to share the story with everyone and I am very grateful for your kind words of support. Thank you so much.
I'm sorry Sean I will never complain again about you not getting out enough:) Thank you for such a wonderful insight into Slovak country and their people..
I’ve watched LoLoHo before we even started motorhoming! Always the best! This was totally heartwarming!❤
Sean what an unexpected wonderful story thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for watching! I have been wanting to share this story for a long time and I’m so happy that people are giving it a chance. 🙏
Wonderful story, it made my day to watch this . Thanks Sean
What an incredible video/story, THANK YOU so very much for sharing. I've followed you two/LOHO for many years and this is one of my favorite and most special/videos. Here is my somewhat similar story in as short form as I can make it! My husband (who was serving in the U.S. Army), older daughter, and I lived "on the economy" in Nurnberg, Germany from 1982-1985, where my younger daughter was born in 1984. In 2018, I had the unexpected opportunity to take my then almost 34 year old younger daughter to the home in Nurnberg, Germany, in which we had lived when she was born. We rode a bus out to the neighborhood area, got off at a familiar to me bus stop, stopped at a restaurant to pick up a baked dessert for a gift with the hope that someone I knew (or who would talk to us) would be there, and I led my daughter straight to the house where we had lived upstairs as though I had been there yesterday. Except if was now beautifully remodeled. Our very sweet landlord and his sweet wife were no longer with us, but their son (who was a teenager at the time we lived there) and his wife, now live in the house. They came to the gate as we called to them when we saw them in the garden, and they "cautiously" spoke with us from a distance. And then he recognized me and called me by name! He was very surprised we were actually there. He remembered our family, the little baby girl (who was five months old when we returned to the USA), and even the name of our family dog - whom his father had dearly loved! They allowed us to "tour" their home and my daughter saw the very window in front of which her crib was placed for optimal sunshine time. It was a special and emotional visit for me and especially for my daughter as she discovered her "birth roots." We later went by the local hospital where she was born and I shared many things with her about our time in Nurnberg and this very special and historically significant birth city of hers. Now she truly knows and understands. I'll never forget either time there. Thanks again for sharing your incredible, special times and the reunion, and for prompting similar special memories for me. Blessings.
Bravo Sean! One of your BEST videos.. So enjoyed it and thank you so much for sharing.. you are an amazing storyteller 🙏❤️
My family and I spent eighteen days in the Czech Republic in 2019. My son had spent two years on a church mission there and spoke Czech perfectly. We really loved the place and I took hundreds of photos. What a wonderful place.
Yes, it is a very special place with a Rich history and wonderful culture!
Great story!!!! I went to many places in the world when I was much younger, I actually lived in Iceland for a year... love to see your stories!!!
Beautiful! We’ve been fortunate to visit Bratislava twice as part of river cruises and it was one of my favorite stops, with its history and charm. On one of those cruises our bursar was from there and gave us all a heartfelt history before we went exploring.
Fabulous. I love you reconnected. George is a wonderful human being. I reconnected with my best friend from high-school in Germany, after 47 years. It took some internet digging, and contacting her brother. We got to meet again in Florida where she had a second home and we picked right up from where we left off. Good friends again. Sadly she died a few years later from breast cancer. But I was so happy to find her again for a while. A big thanks to those girls at the front desk!!!
Thank you, Marilyn, glad to hear you were able to meet up with your friend in Florida before she passed away. Yes, you are right. The girls at the front desk of the hotel are the unsung heroes. Without their help, I never would have found my friend.
What a great story. Nancy & I are so happy you found your friend!!
Shean I love ❤ your story! 6 years ago my wife and I visited Bratislava, Slovakia while we were on a Viking river cruise. We both smiled when we saw the very quick shot of the manhole peaker. Safe travels, Alan & Sue
Best LoLoHo story yet. No Airstreams, no national parks, just a great travel tale that puts a smile on our faces. Have a similar friend that we've lost contact with each other for years at a time, once over a decade, and we always pick up the conversation where we left off years earlier. Friends like that you never forget.
Awesome life story 😁. Really glad you were able to reconnect with your friend from across the miles and 30 years ago! Don't care that it's not the usual Loloho video. One of your best ever 🤩. Great quality videography and content. Keep em coming 😜😊
Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. What a wonderful, inspiring and moving story.
Sir,you had an angel standing over you. 😊
You are so right! 🪽
Sean, you have a gift for telling stories. I loved this story and admit that it brought a tear to me because of the friendship you two made. Thanks for brightening up my name.
My wife and I said when watching the pictures of some of your students that they were just so beautiful.
You guys hit it out of the park with this video. Just a great great story all around.
sounds like George was an angel for you. very nice story...
We have traveled the world and you guys are rock stars. Thanks for sharing REAL WORLD experience. Hope to see you on the road in NA or Other!!!!
Yes, what a great story. My son is from Poland and also enjoyed this. I always tell him to make plans, and life is short. BCD III from South Florida
This was the most amazing video we have ever seen. God bless you. So glad you were able to connect again. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much Cometman for your kind words! I’m so thrilled to be able to share this story with everyone!
Hi Shawn & Kristie - this is a wonderful video. We really enjoyed seeing where you taught school and pictures of your students. Your story of meeting George was so special (serendipity). I’m glad you were able to locate him and have a reunion. It’s like you said, “Once in a lifetime experience “. You have lead a very diverse life. I also enjoy when you travel to other countries. We lived in Venezuela for two years in 1977 - 1979. I wouldn’t want to go there today but it was a different time back then. It so made us appreciate our conveniences here in the USA (clean water, stable electricity and a lot more) and see their culture. Thanks for sharing!! ❤️
What a great story. His friend has a lot of videos to get caught up on.
I really enjoy the humor in your generator videos but this is simply the best video you’ve ever posted. It may also be the best video ever posted in the RV or Full Time RV lifestyle segments on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing so much about your life during that year away and how lucky you were to have such a rewarding ending to your trip. The videography complemented and brought to life this wonderful story. Thanks for all the years of travel blogs and entertainment.
Long long time subscriber here. Such a great story, thank you so much for sharing it with us! ❤
I remember! You tell the story so perfectly Sean! This was a perfect amount of 'wallowing in the nostalgia' hahaa! I have the pictures of all of us dancing in the streets, celebrating the Velvet Revolution in the 1993 National Geographic magazine too. I love this video... and it was fun to see all of us in your photos! I can't believe all the photos, the bus pass and letters you saved! I loved seeing all of your memorabilia! The dorm pictures of today were heartbreaking! OMG! I remember us visiting you outside that hospital room -- we all were so worried for you. I couldn't BELIEVE you had never had chicken pox before. That was awful. I was envious that you got stationed in the big city of Bratislava, but I ended up loving my village in Piestany! George seems like a really remarkable friend! I loved your reunion and the hug! Love to you and Kristy -- you guys have built such a beautiful adventure of a life! We all need a reunion for sure! Hugs Sean!
Meredith, your friendship has always been very special to me and it has been wonderful to see you blossom and share your gifts with the world through what you are doing now. I would love getting together for a reunion anytime. Also, the next time we find ourselves in your part of the country, I will make it a priority to reach out and connect with you. I think our spirits and life stories were somehow destined to intertwine. Love you very much. ❤️
That is a great story. About a year and a half ago, I was able to track down my best friend from 4th and 5th grade. We lost track after his family moved. A year later, we moved. Every once and a while I would try to track him down. This last time I was successful and now we communicate every month or so.
This story brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful person and friend George was/is! He absolutely did save your life. Chicken pox in adults can be lethal, and is often much more severe than when contracted at a young age. But your entire remembrance/return to Bratislava was just such a remarkable journey and experience, which, though different from other peoples, has that universal appeal for us to remember our own formative experiences. Thank you for sharing this sweet, nostalgic story.
Thank you for your kind words. All the best,
George
Yes, thank you for pointing out the lethality of chickenpox in adults. In that situation, I had no medicine of any kind, and I was really too weak to even get out of bed and go and find help. My fever was spiking very high, and my conditioning was worsening by the minute. It was such an incredible blessing to have met George at the very same time I was falling ill with this disease.
Thanks for sharing such an amazing and incredible life story.
Wow!!
What a beautiful reconnection.
Great story Sean.
Regards,
Rob
Great story! It’s amazing that you have all those pictures from that time as well. Thank you for sharing!
Well, I thank you for the tour, I thank you for sharing for friendship and friends across the ponds! I am most happy that your wife is smiling also, because I am thinking she has enjoyed this journey with you!
What am incredible story! I moved to Switzerland in 1986, at the age of 23 to work in a small village in the Emmental and 3 years later took a year to travel around Asia and I experienced that different world pre internet and cell phone.
We just read the previous post, and it said what we were going to say, so I guess we'll second that! Great job, and thanks for sharing such a personable story with us.
What a great story. Thanks so much for sharing. Happy for you and your friend that you were able to reunite. Cheers!
Such a lovely video. ❤ Loloho!
Thank you Sean for sharing your serendipitous encounter with George. Thank you for reminding us that travel is something that truly adds to ones life.
An amazing story and this has to be your best episode you two have produced. Congratulations and hope we have the opportunity to meet. Travel far and often.
Best story ever. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Wow! This was by far one of the best UA-cam videos that I’ve ever seen. Sean you did an excellent job putting this story together. Going to new places and experiencing new things is one thing. But the thing that makes all these experiences valuable is your contact with people. And that is what you are about. No I could never venture out into the world the way that you do. But at least I am able to live these experiences through what you do. I absolutely loved everything about this story. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed the story. 🙏 you are so right that meeting with people is what really excites me about travel. I love connecting with people from different parts, the world and learning from them. In this case, I’m so thankful to have met George when I did. He was truly a blessing to me.
Thanks! What a great story. The best stories are true!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for the super chat. Yes, you are right. The best stories are true. I wish I could tell a story like this every week, but this one was 30 years in the making! I’m so glad that you enjoyed it. 🙏
Wow! Great capture of that time in your life. Hoping George can catch you here in the States. Thanks!
Fantastic video. What an unbelievable adventure.
Yup, sounds like my dad! I'm George's second-born son, and I just wanna say thank you for this lovely video. I've heard this story before, but it's just so cool to hear about it from the other point of view. Even if I hadn't heard this story before I would have believed it in a second. That's just how my dad is hahah. Makes me proud. Anyway, I'm glad my country has given you such lifelong memories, and it was great to meet you guys! Bratislava welcomes you anytime.
Thank you so much! I love your father, and I love your country as well. I feel very fortunate to have lived there, and I look forward to returning again someday. It was a great pleasure to meet you. I was not surprised to discover that George’s sons are just as intelligent and kind as their father. I know you will enjoy much success in life. Please give me a shout if I can ever be of any help to you. ❤️
Wow Sean you really never cease to amaze me what an amazing story and I'm so glad you're able to find your friend George after all those years and reunite. I found myself smiling from ear-to-ear for you while I was watching the video.
Well, first of all, I LOVED this story. Made me cry a little. Second of all, I was in Bratislava in 2016 and it looked NOTHING like those malls and pretty stores you showed, unless I was in the wrong section. It felt so depressing to be there after being in Budapest, but I'm glad that it looks like a vibrant city now. Travel is the BEST!!!
Thanks for the video Sean !!! My interests have changed some and don't see your videos as often as I used to. I don't know why I decided to watch this one but was delighted with such a moving story. Best wishes & good luck to you both !
Bama boy takes a massive trip. Wow!!! What a story.
This is a great touching story. You sparked a lot of old memories of my own past.
Incredible story, we really enjoyed hearing about your adventure.
Wow, what an incredible adventure! Great story!
Great story. I truly enjoyed this video. My wife and I had opportunities to live in Europe twice. I would love someday to return to our former homes and talk to some of our friends.
Fantastic story!! Its amazing how random acts of kindness can influence the rest of our life. Thanks for sharing ☺️
Phenomenonal. What an amazing episode and experience. BRAVO BRAVO!!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story of travel, friendship, life.
My favorite post so far. Thank you for sharing this amazing chapter of your life.
I love this story! How cool that George was there when you desperately needed someone. And, how cool that you were able to reconnect 30 years later!
What a wonderful story and so well told. Although a bit different circumstances, my wife and I met a French couple in France over thirty years ago. We have remained great friends and have had the good fortune of visiting in each other’s homes several times. Thank you for sharing.
So not what I was expecting. . . so different from your other content but WOW! Amazing story! Such an important time in your life and because of the way it turned out it shaped you into the adventurer you are today. Best thing I’ve seen on YT in a LONG LONG time!
Thanks so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed the story. This is the most personal video I’ve ever posted online. To be honest, I guess I was a little nervous about it because it is so different. I appreciate your kind words and you giving this unusual video a chance! Thank you so much
Awesome, awesome !!!! Thank you for sharing your overseas travels !

What an unbelievable story! Incredible work, Sean!
Sean...we are fellow airstreamers with another connection in that world / Ronnie and Terra Dennis. We have followed from the beginning and would say THANK YOU for sharing this incredible story...Maybe we will cross paths someday...We live in Northern Michigan , close to Traverse City
We are also big fans of Ronnie and Terra! I hope we do cross paths someday. We love Michigan and that area, especially. When we were there several years ago, we camped at Château grand Traverse. Wonderful wine and beautiful countryside. Great people too!
So nice you got to reconnect with this kind individual
What a tremendous and wonderful story. Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing.
What a touching and amazing story on so many levels. I am so glad that George was there for you and that you reconnected. 💖
What a wonderful story!
What a Great story Shawn!!
Wonderful story! Thank you
What a great story! Enjoyed every minute. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching. This is the most personal video I have ever done. I really appreciate those who have taken the time to listen to the story. It’s a once in a lifetime for me and I’m so pleased to finally be able to share it. Thank you again.
Great story of reconnection with a friend from decades ago-across the world. Lived in Germany from 1980-82, and went to a local German school. Long story as too why, but what was a hardship at the time, led to a carrier, confidence and eventually love. This is what spending immersion-time in a foreign country will do for you.
What a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing.
What an amazing story and adventure ❤😊 🎉 Thank you for sharing. Awesomeness ❤
Thanks so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Touching memories- early adventures led to more in your life
What an amazing story Sean!! Touching, memorable and unforgettable! You are the best storyteller ever! Will share w Grant and Makayla to give them encouragement to follow in your footsteps. (Although G has a bit for sure!). Love u! ❤

What a beautiful story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
All I can say is WOW!!
What a wonderful story. Thank you!
My wife and I take "gap" vacations all the time. We have a son in Prague who also taught English. He's been there now 10 years, married a French wife and has a family.
What an unbelievable story, so glad you shared it…..so happy for you to have such a beautiful friendship….
By coincidence my company offered me a chance to work as an ex-pat in Europe at about the same time frame. In the summer of 1992 being crazy Americans we took a road trip which included driving from Bratislava to Prague (we were living in Grenoble France BTW). Crossing the border between Slovakia and the Czech Republic turned into an interesting few minutes of panic as the guard demanded our passports and then just walked away. There was nothing to do but just sit there. After what seemed an eternity but was probably less than five minutes we see him coming back and stopping at each of his fellow guards and displaying our passports and letting each of them look, touch and feel the passports. Finally he arrived back at out car with a big smile, presented me our passports and waved us forward. The entire time that we were stopped I don't recall a single other car passing through the checkpoint. As we drove away we speculated that none of this set of border guards had ever seen an actual American passport as it looked like the border checkpoint had only been set up within the past few days. Crossing back into Germany from the Czech Republic was definitely a whole different feel but that is another story....
Truly enjoyed this video!!
Thank you for this heart warming story, Sir!
