- Hi guys! Things can feel very different when you first arrive in Jordan from a western country. I had a think about useful stuff to know when you move to Jordan and made this list. I hope it’s informative some how :)

The no addresses thing can be so confusing sometimes 😂 like if you don't know the place well then good luck getting anywhere on your own.. Google maps are becoming a thing though so that's good
Yes! When we first got here google maps was still fairly new and unreliable. Thank god for modern technology 🙏😅

I had to learn the hard way of water running out while in the shower (with shampoo in my hair)
and using tap water to make my tea 🤢 😁
Haha I can’t say how many times I had to exit the shower with conditioner still in my hair when we first moved here 🤦🏼♀️ totally feel you 😅
Actually, Careem has nearly twice the ridership as Uber, which is a big reason why Uber purchased Careem in the first place, not so long ago.
BTW, when I first came to Amman, I learned to ride the local bus routes, and it was an amazing boost to my speaking & listening skills in Arabic. I'd highly recommend doing it!
Yes I believe that to be true, however I think among foreigners Uber is more popular because it’s a known brand.
Yes, riding the bus does sound like fun to me but I wouldn’t do it unaccompanied although I do have female friends who do
"If you run out of water, you run out of water". I felt this in my soul😂😂 It sucks having to wait for the water tank to fill up again, or waiting for the truck to fill it up.

So if that happens how do you take a shower?
@@ginismoja2459 well the water tank gets filled up by the "bladea" 3 times a week, in the days that it's not getting filled up it would be a problem if your tank runs out, if its necessary, there are trucks that fill up your water tank. They take an hour or two to get there.
But its usually quite expensive, so we try not to spend too much water in the days that baladea doesn't fill up your tank.
@@ginismoja2459 two other options, in addition to what John Doe replied: (A) you can call for a service truck to come fill your tank(s), or (B) many homes have more than just one tank (up on the rooftop), so you can run the electric pump to send water from one of your ground-level tanks to the one(s) on the roof. Much of this depends greatly upon in which area/suburb/"muntaqa" one lives. Sweileh, the area she references, is much different from Abdoun or Khalda or Sweifieh.
Yes, this is something we often end up doing mid-week however I was referring to when you exhaust that tank as well

I am Jordanian the tap water is drinkable if get it directly from government supply without trucks and if your tank is clean, but I don't recommend it for making tea or coffee
Whenever i visit Jordan i would live in a rural area in the north at my grandmas, but the water seems to be pumped from underground pipelines, its odd that the city has less infrastructure.
A bunch of people get busted stealing water from underground its like a big thing there
The water is pumped from underground pipes but is then stored in tanks individual for each apartment to ensure everyone gets their share of water.

Water thing kind of scares me did not know that.
The water situation will probably improve soon, Jordan made a new water deal with Israel recently. Also, I lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years and it sounds exactly the same as Jordan lol. Which is kind of interesting, because I had always thought of Jordan as being a more moderate ME country.

The water thing throws me for a loop. After all these years they haven't developed this.. If you run out of water can you pay to have it filled? Love your videos😊 Bless you.
Yes you can pay to get it refilled but it costs 10 - 15 JD so some people might not afford it... Water is an issue in Jordan because we have very little water resources..
@@m_aa but what about the red sea? Can't they create a water plant there and utilize that water throughout Jordan? I never heard of this. Makes me thankful for unlimited clean accessible water.
@@JennyLynnMinistries Actually the part of the red sea which is in jordan is not big at all, but still the biggest problem I think is not the shortage of water itself, but the lack of desire to do something about it.
Jordan has access to the red sea through the gulf of Aqaba which is not big at all and it's also shared with other countries... The government is doing projects but it's still not enough especially now that they have to provide for thousands of refugees so the government still has to do more projects and figure out a way to provide unlimited water which I think won't happen anytime soon :/

All water tanks in Jordan that deliver drinking water are having this statement written on them (ماء صالح للشرب) which means a good water for drinking the word saleh in the statement happened to be a name of a man, in Arabic adjective(good water) and noun in the same time, so you can read it as it's saleh(a guy name) drinking water,
Now that i explain it in this manner it's not funny anymore 😂😂

Why don't you wash the clothes and do the stuff that needs a lot of water in the days when the water is available ?

@@MummyinAmman I've watched all of your videos as I'm looking to undertake work (for an NGO) there. I'll hopefully be bringing my family with me. Essentially I'd like to know about the quality of education (compared to UK). Costs if any? If English is taught. Is there an Ofsted equivalent that enables parents to make an informed decision as to where to send their children. Crucially, your experiences! Your videos are really helpful and we enjoy watching them.

What woul advice for small family 5 3 kids under 5 ? Schooling and stuff and cost of rent and salary average job?

I think that by the water delivery she meant "مية البلدية" that comes about once a week.
