- Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said that Israel has built bunkers underneath Shifa hospital in Gaza while speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Monday.
Israel had previously said that there was a Hamas command centre under Shifa hospital before encircling and raiding it, later revealing they had found a small amount of guns, combat gear and a laptop.
A BBC analysis found that a video Israeli forces shared to present their findings at the hospital had in fact been edited, despite Israel saying that it wasn’t, and journalists who were invited to tour the hospital afterwards saw that the amount and location of guns shown in the video had changed.

Nearly every hospital has a basement. They needed to modernize the hospital in the 1980's since it was built in the 1920's by Egyptians. The compound is limited (as he explained in the video). So what was there to be shocked about?

All countries often build bunkers under hospitals. Usually used for radiology purposes, storage & laundry. Also shortcuts to different areas of hospital. There's a difference when tunnels are added for war purposes. Such as this. I'm surprised people don't know that.
So, why didn't they tell the world that earlier? So, even if Hamas was not using the tunnels or bunkers underneath the hospital, the fact that Israel knew all along about the "bunkers", then show to the world like they discovered it and then alleged that Hamas was using it, what does that tell you?

For those who justify Israel's attack and bombing on Gaza to get rid of Hamas I don't know if you know that Israel has been killing, arresting, and beating thousands of innocent people and children every year since 1948. Even before 7/10, regardless of the depressing life they had been living for decades, they were deliberately causing fatal injuries to them all these years. But if, as you say, Israel killed all these innocent people only because of Hamas, then let me remind you that Hamas was not present in the mosques, but they were bombed. Hamas was not in ambulances but they were bombed. Hamas was not in the churches but they were bombed. Hamas was not in the bakeries, but they were bombed. Although Hamas is only present in Gaza, Israel has been bombing areas of the West Bank and other Palestinian areas free of Hamas with heavy bombardment, killing hundreds of innocent people. Did you know that schools (shelter centres) for displaced persons -containing thousands of innocent people whose homes were destroyed- were bombed? Those Palestinians arrived at these schools by order of Israel, as these areas should be safe but they were surprised that Israel had bombed them there as well. Does it mean to kill Hamas or innocents? Is cutting off fuel, thus cutting off the breathing apparatus of prenatal babies in SCBU and causing all of them to die, a way to get rid of Hamas? 50 days of bombing, oppression, and ground invasion with tanks, snipers, weapons ships, and bombs from America, Australia, Germany, and other countries. It left 15,000 people dead, and Israel has not yet gotten rid of Hamas. So will we wait for them to annihilate Gaza under the excuse of getting rid of Hamas?

I think the point is that HAMAS took existing infrastructure, built their narrow tunnels to link them together, and built the well-like structures from which they could enter and leave the bunkers and command centers from outside the hospital. Or to put it another way, HAMAS weaponized existing infrastructure.

I think it’s fair to say Barak was one of the last Israeli PMs (the other being Olmert) who wasn’t a completely deranged murderous ultra-nationalist fanatic. exactly, the film they made about the tunnel entrance looks like the Israelis broke the seal on the tunnel to access it. Even the stairs didn't reach the top. But even if it was in use by Hamas, I do not accept that gives them the right to bomb the hospital.
