@@emelineemeline9114 I don't think it's knowledge of technique, I think it's that the standard for vocal talent was just higher back then. It's fallen to really low depths now if someone like Demi Lovato is considered a powerhouse vocalist and one of the best voices of this generation, every famous singer's singer from the last decade to every decade from the 20th century could sing her under the rug.
In Nicole's defense, she was battling having bulimia at the time and when you're constantly throwing up, the stomach acid can burn your esophagus and ruin your voice. She is extremely talented and is doing so much better now
dean revees You do know she is a classically trained vocalist right? Her technique is some of the best in the business. Not every performance is a great one, obviously, but you can absolutely hear when her technique is correct. The notes come out rich and not nasally versus sounding very sharp and strained like in this video. Her belting technique is something even Mariah Carey never perfected and that's why her voice is so damaged now. Every single artist overworks their vocal chords because it's literally what they do for a living. She has recently gotten off a world tour which means she's probably on a vocal rest or vocal limitation for a few weeks if not longer. Watch her first performances when she comes back to the stage in the future, I bet her technique will be on point. However, I will say that there is no safe way to hit a whistle note.. I watched her live and she replaces them with falsettos A LOT. Whistle notes should really only be done in a studio, not every single performance.
Everyone: Look at all these butt hurt fans who can't handle it they're being so ridiculous Me: *scrolling trying to find even one butt hurt fan commenting*
Some uneducated people commenting “but they still sound good”...Does it really matter? In a few more years, we will see who still sounds good. And if you have a trained ear, bad technique does NOT sound good, it makes your throat hurt just by listening to singers use bad technique. I suggest for the people commenting that to watch a few videos on vocal technique and maybe go to a professional vocal coach and talk to them about this.
Bunny God I don't know how I made it through this video. It's like I could feel the nodules forming. It doesn't sound good to me. I'm sure that after a lot of these performances they were hoarse.
Clark Kent Actually, no. Vocal coaching does the opposite. Vocal coaches teach you things that help improve the way you sing. Nobody likes somebody who blurts out notes and basically screams them out. It isn't pleasant and not only that but it can hurt your throat. Vocal coaching helps you avoid that stuff.
Clark Kent Okay. Yes. I do agree you need to hire a professional coach that knows what he/she is doing. But those coaches help you. They know what is healthy for your voice and how to improve the few flaws you may have. But also, not many people enjoy hearing screaming. Sure, it may appeal to some people for whatever reason but there are other ways to project your voice without hurting your voice. Vocal coaches help you fix your flaws so you won't make the same mistake again.
to triggered people: improper technique≠bad voices, it just means that isn't the healthiest and safest technique, but many of these traits is why these artists have a unique tone like Tori kelly, whom im a fan of.
Bey Fan forgot I watched this 😅 But yeah, I can agree with that. :) Also yeah didn’t notice tori was placed having good technique the first time around
Lol how did Whitney Houston not make the "epitome" of good technique and breath support, etc. Whitney Houston is a perfect example of a neutral larynx and phenomenal breath support without any sign of fatigue. Although she is not a perfect singer and may have had very few misplacement of larynx, she is pitch perfect 99% of the time and has a neutral larynx in almost all performances.
@Raya Strong Whitney's voice has been damaged since the 2000's... She couldn't even speak let alone singing... Her life choices made her go completely hoarse. She had lost her voice but ultimately gained it back to 75% at the time at her head. Excluding the massive fails during the Nothing But Love Tour
what they said about ariana’s high larynx has always been true when belting high notes like G5. she has improved a lot since the dwt. cant wait to see what her vocals are like in a few years!!!
@@lamb9770 you're very wrong. pay attention. who the fuck would make a "style choice" of people not being able to understand a word they say and it ending up sounding like she's just yelling random vowels? that's not a style choice.
Lovebird you’re fucking dumb. she’s literally done both where you can clearly hear what she’s sayin & where she’s a little less clear. a lot of singers do it. it’s literally a choice to sing like that.
I am a guitar, bass, and vocal instructor. I have taught many people clean, raspy, and screaming vocal technique and vocal warm ups. The main thing I noticed is that group 1 (the good technique) didn't "sing with their throat". They had good control of where they sing from. A good singer will "sing with their diaphragm". Singing with the diaphragm helps with breath control and you can sing both loud and soft without feeling like something might go wrong and your voice might crack. Your vocal chords will become shot and will tire out quickly if you don't sing with your diaphragm. Vocal warm ups help loosen vocal chords and help you get your maximum vocal range. When you use warm ups it may seem silly but in the long run they're what will help you hit high and low notes years from now. All of the "bad examples" didn't sing with their diaphragm and sang with their throats, they most likely had a bad or improper vocal warm up, didn't hydrate, and didn't get enough vocal rest.
which probably means, that unlike all of us, they have to sing every day of their lives and have demanding careers which make them make "mistakes" that are not actually wrong because they have to face all sorts of conditions, so it's quite logical to think they couldn't warm-up or drink water, or that they were in a concert room with many changes of temperature and even smoke. Some "vocal purists" would like the entire world to sing like a singer calmly singing in a studio with constant temperature and constant humidity. Well, reality is much more complex.
+Kaylasa JaguarStar What are you defending exactly? This is hardly a critique, all they did was state what we see in the video already and even suggested the singers to have stressed their voice or had not warmed up rather than calling them terrible singers.
I think she's a good singer, but she runs out of breath quick and she really needs to work on it.When I watched her concert on Netflix,I was so close to turning it off because she just sounded so out of breath and it was horrible
@@darkangel4994 yea but umm context kinda do matter and it seems not... morally right to put that here rather than just leave it alone considering the context?
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy that’s not the point, she was literally holding back tears at a funeral, it’s just straight up disrespectful to put that in this video it’s not even about the singing
Wtf you're judging Alicia Keys on her breath support and notes at Whitney Houston's funeral. I think she's allowed to sound like that if she's choking back tears....
that is not the reason for alicias weak voice, ever since having the baby her voice has gotten very thin and her range is not what it used to be back in the early 2000s
No disrespect to demi Lovato, I've just personally always felt annoyed listening to her belts. It's legit sounds more like she's yelling in pain rather than singing the belted note itself.
Sorry, but if u studied singing, belting is NEVER meant to be the only way of singing because belting IS basically screaming. You should use it as a singing style where you throw one or two but not the whole song. You have incorrectly identified what is of high larynx and what is of low. Lady Gaga didn't belt, neither did Beyoncé. They were singing in their 'mix'. Fergie was singing high larynx at all the clips. Just extremely annoyed at all these videos trying to put down different singers, thinking that you guys know what good singing is. You guys don't even sing, you are in no position to even comment what's good and bad. Belting is a style, not meant to be done all the time. It's basically screaming but with support and when done with good control, it doesn't damage anything.
ABSOLUTELY. I knew this video was not gonna be entirely accurate when it showed Mariah who sang with bad technique for years. The correct way to pop out the high notes is to mix them. Gaga nailed it. Celine Dion is master at it (although when she does All By Myself she basically has to scream.)
+The Life Of The Lambily Mix is when a singer mix both your head voice together their ur chest voice, most singers just scream the notes out when it reaches their fourth octave and get away with it because it sounds fine hahaha and that is belting. Mariah Carey mixes very well, not as of late but in her prime she was untouchable...
just because ariana has ease (sort of) in upper belts and doesn't exactly sound like she straining, does NOT mean she's a good technical singer, ariana fans....
Rose Al-Qatani Pelaez I’d say generic is a better word for her. Nothing special imo, just another pop star. She’ll be a has been in a few years with the way she’s going. Just another Mariah Carey lol
All of you complaining: 1. A good sounding belt is not always healthily placed 2. A healthily placed belt does not always sound good (usually, yes, but not always) 3. Most people who make youtube videos criticizing singers' belts and techniques don't take singing lessons, and just "learn" through other youtube videos (Im not saying this person is not a singer, I have no idea. Maybe they are, maybe not. But im just saying many people who run channels like this one are not singers.) Don't be so butthurt, singers are human, they're not always gonna have perfect performances. And being a fan of someone does not mean you're gonna have your head up their asses and agree on everything they do and defend them at all cost even when you KNOW you're not being objective.
Exactly. Im a Lovatic and the reason why her voice is like that cause she has a problem with her throat or her tonsils or something witch means she has to go to the doctor all the time to check on her vocal cords. But that doesnt mean Demi cant pull of a high ass badass note am i right😎.
Well, as for "ever"... It's questionable. Depends on how much you actually explore the capabilities of your voice. They're singers, they go for it. A lot of people try singing without knowing what they're doing, and quit because they suck. But it's improvable.
I'm just going to say this. How dare you put a clip of Alicia Keys singing at a FUNERAL when it is obvious that she is fighting back tears and trying to sing and then say she's "struggling and shouting notes"? Try again with a different clip then you can have room to judge.
Its just dumb that literally the only example of alicia singing improperly was pulled from the funeral. Regardless of it being an example or not, it seems rude to critique her performance in that situation at all.
yes her breath support is back and it is improving but it still has long ways to go, if only her fans' support could provide her breath lmao honestly im so happy that she's almost there to supporting C5's in SWOTR
RyderC Daniels Ironically Ariana's belts here HAD good breath support, so your comment is stupid. It was her larynx placement and tension that's the problem.
people do realize that technique is the life of a singer right? you can utilize good and healthy techniques and still add stylistic choices... Whitney is considered a vocal legend. Hits like I Will Always Love You wouldn't be as iconic today without it.
Some of y'all have got to chill. It's not whether the singer sounds good or bad, it's about if they're using good technique. You can use bad technique and still sound good, in my opinion. But bad technique is unhealthy and can potentially damage your vocal instrument. And for the people who ask who this person is to judge, one of the things you learn if you study singing is to listen to singers for bad technique. I used to tell everyone that they sounded good in vocal studio because I felt bad until my voice teacher tore me apart for being unhelpful. It's a skill you should know as a singer.
Yeah I agree you try doing what they are doing and do come back with that stupid response “I don’t want to be a singer” then DONT JUDGE THEM They are doing fine and Ariana and Demi (the main new singers) have improved their vocal technique over the years
You do know mariah carey exists, and alot of people says she has no talent, only her range. You sound really very condescending when you say things like that and generalize.
@@jaspersimon3363 I love Mariah Carey. But I'm not a fan of her live performances. Her technique is really good but i can't say she has a consistent higher range while singing live. She's extremely good at lows, her fluid transitions are awesome, and she's the queen of whistles, but i won't give it to her for high notes( though she supports them while hitting). While performing live, she uses all of her plus points and makes it up, but still it feels like music is missing in some parts of the song. Just my opinion :)
@@jaspersimon3363 So some people say dumb things, and? Literally no mainstream singer under 30 can be said to have "good" technique much less "great". Even broading the field to "under 40", you're left with Beyoncé and like 2 or 3 others.
Yeah but you all are so fast to judge them on their bad performances but she doesn’t show how they have improved or any of their good performances in any other performances
Guys, it's not just about the techniques. It's to keep their throat and diaphragm safe so that they can continue to sing properly. They literally stated that they liked these artists and sometimes it sounds really good, just that they were not taking proper precautions. Yes, emotion and soul are important aspects of singing, but you shouldn't be straining yourself to hit notes. Stop being so pissy because someone pointed out that it wasn't good for them.
I know that Christina doesn't have the best technique, but there is no denying how amazing she sounds.she truly is the best female vocalist of her generation.
such a shame the creator showed the clip when she sings Im ok, a rendition that all the good technique singers would be jealous of. that raw emotion is worth the world!
@@luciasaanunez7735 don’t worry for her she’s been doing it 20+ years those vocal cords are made of steel if she would’ve damage her voice it would’ve happened a long time ago.
you can definitely hear the difference. Those who use proper technique it sounds smoother (not talking about style but quality of the notes) and it does not look like their straining. proper technique let's you sing and hit high notes comfortably. but I have noticed that a lot of singers recently shout out their notes instead of singing, and most people think it's normal but I can't listen to songs where their just shouting.
Here's the deal. Unless you're a vocal coach, or a student studying singing, you can't judge whether or not someone has good technique. Just because someone raises their head or looks like their struggling doesn't mean they are actually struggling or using bad technique. Sometimes it's just the singer showing emotion or being dramatic when they singing. Being a student who has been studying vocal technique, I can tell you that probably half of these singers were using a healthy technique. Plus, to compare them to the singers who were "using good technique" when they were all hitting notes in the 4th and lower half of the 5th octave, while everyone else in the video was singing in the mid/upper 5th octave is unfair. (Not to mention you used a clip of Mariah, even though her technique destroyed her voice. Even my vocal coach used her as an example of bad technique.) Not a hate comment, just an education comment.
I saw in a video of a vocal coach (who used videos of two other vocal coaches to support his words) that raising the chin actually can help avoiding high larynx. Also I think Maria's voice got damaged due to her nodules that she decided to help by drinking.
For those people saying their fav singer didn't deserve to be on this list, and they were singing perfectly, take a moment and ask yourself how much you know about vocals, than take a seat. There are valid points made about their execution such as larynx placement and breath support. You can't just overlook these things and just say " (blank) did amazing why are they on this list?" THE REASONS R LITERALLY IN THE VIDEO!
Yes. That's right. You said it best. Now I keep imagine Chris Hansen from Dateline telling all these butthurt people defending their favorite singer to "take a seat." 😆😆😆
Its basically were singers can hit the same notes with different tones. Christina for example has sang with a low larynx her whole career making her voice sound "stronger" and more powerful. Bless her soul. Britney also has sang with a low larynx her whole career. Which is why she sounds like a baby.
This video is actually super helpful and educational. It even stated at the start of the video that the 'bad technique' singers don't sound bad, they just have bad *technique*. As an amateur singer it is very useful to be able to tell the difference between techniques and what is good for your voice. Thank you for this video.
They honestly sound horrific to me. I've been doing a s*** ton of pitch training. That was legitimately painful for me to hear. It's really crazy because 3 days ago I wouldn't have thought it was that bad. The Fergie one was always a hot mess we all knew that. I record myself singing and while I have the vocal range in head voice, when I try to Belt it sounds just like that. Yeah, you're hitting the notes but it's so freaking Sharp. Piercing
All of those larynx notes sound like they hurt. It also sounds like they’re ripping and damaging the vocal cords. I’ve never liked their sound and have always wondered why they choose to present a note that way? Someone with musical training please answer. I’d be very grateful. Have you done one of these videos on Sia? When I hear her live, I think exactly what I just wrote - each and every time.
Miley Cyrus sounds amazing in my opinion but HELL she is damaging her vocals, you can hear at her Malibu live performances 2017 and she is belting with a bad technique, she sounds amazing, I mean I am a smiler myself but hell that high larynx will kill those vocals, I think she should focus on the amazingly resonant and healthy lower register she has.
Yeah I don't really care that she has a bad belting technique, her low register is AMAZING and one of the best in the industry, she doesn't even need to sing vocal songs in my opinion :-)
Dangerous Woman's G5s are a little closed throat because of the phrases, but just like Problem and Break Free she'll eventually get better at the notes. Especially when she goes on tour because after her tour she's been able to belt a Bb5 with ease.
i'm happy that ariana seems to be working on her bad belting technique, in 2019 she is supporting D5s, and the high larynx starts at F5, she's doing good on sweetener tour, but she needs a vocal coach to improve
Thank you for this! My mom is a speech-language pathologist and she always comments on bad techniques! She actually called the nodes in Sam Smith and Adele before they came out to the public with having them because she could hear the bad technique and the nodules forming when she heard them sing!
Under an Ariana grande music video I said “she has a great voice but terrible vocal technique”, I deleted that comment because so many people were giving me hate because of it, I was legit concerned about her voice. You can still sound great with horrible technique.
And that.... you do understand it is hard but someone is allowed to give an opinion like that without being a singer themselves. Bet some ppl told you "oh are YOU a singer?! Huhhhh?!" "Its hard to do what she doesss" Or giving you a similiar crap just for saying it... aw man. I feel bad for ya. The fans should chill rlly esp if its sth that is true
She actually had good tehnicque when she was on Broadway, watch this video : ua-cam.com/video/gFi7_LFG7OA/v-deo.html The reason why it went downhill is that she left Broadway and she get pop vocal coach, pop singers don't need tehnicque. But her tehnicque is improving now,she is better than past few years, listen to swt live vocals. She is getting better and better, maybe she will good as before in future, let's hope so.
Professional vocal coaches say that Ariana has a solid technique. Ariana's supported range is from F#3 to F5. She projects her voice well. Her natural rolling vibrato can be heard in belts up to G#5 and as low as Bb3, suggesting a relaxed approach. She is able to move throughout the entirety of her range and between registers with ease. The highlight of her voice is her well-balanced mixed voice, which stretches up to Bb5’s reliably and consistently, a significant achievement for even professional soprano vocalists. Ariana can also resonate up to E5. Her falsetto is bright and reliable live up to E6.
This isn't a hate comment, or an die hard fan comment, but Ariana is mixing almost all of her high belts, she knows technique, because she had to sing 8 times a week on Broadway at age 14, she knows what she's doing, but I loved this video
+Najeeb Khan whatever, no big deal, but she has been working on it, for exams her acapella dangerous woman, or the performances she did recently with Jason Robert brown
+Christian Demetrius Kidd Mixing is just the tip of the Iceberg. A good technique is based on a good vocal placement, breath support, resonance, neutral larynx, natural vibrato, entonation, relaxed tongue and mouth between others. Ariana is a little far from having a great technique but I hope she gets it eventually
Amy Lee's problem was unbalanced mix. She can do heady mix in a slow song but she always pushed her vocal and shouted on rock songs which makes her vocal fatigue frequently and constantly.
+despairingleonardo I prefer her acoustic performances where she's sitting playing the piano and focusing on her vocals and musicality. Most of her usual rock performance are pretty cringe-worthy, especially when she sings Whisper. I don't know why she puts such a vocal challenging song towards the end everytime, but her voice sounds terrible by the time she starts singing that song.
she screams everythingggggg . she hurts her throat all the time . that's why she had two throat surgeries ! ask any vocal instructor , they'll say the same :P
Why do people not realize that the video is just to show bad technique. Someone can sound amazing while using a bad technique. The video isn't bashing anyone only showing examples. Goodness...
As someone who has never took singing lessons I thought this was very interesting! They're all absolutely talented singers but now that you point out these things I definitely hear the difference! Especially in the breathing support
Love this video! Proper vocal technique is crucial to a healthy voice and a long career. Singing takes so much work and practice and if you push your voice out the wrong way, you can permanently damage it.
You do realize that proper belting technique REQUIRES high larynx. Not sure if you were not properly informed or what happened there. Also shouting notes isn’t necessarily unhealthy and it’s often a stylistic choice.
if you didn't know, ariana was in tour for a year and her songs were mostly in the octaves. She kept singing them until she hurt her voice but she belted pretty well. Now in Ariana's performance's she's constantly shouting them because her voice has been temporarily damaged. Please realize that not ever singer has to be perfect and belt their notes pretty well. Ariana will be back soon but for now on, she can't help but scream them.
For those of us who are vocal peasants and don't know a thing about vocal techniques, what was wrong? What do you mean by improper technique? I want to learn.
+vlanjos4807 From what I gather, it has to do with relaxing or over-tensing parts or your throat, where you gather breath from (diaphragm or throat) and generally how the airflow go when you sing. There are other videos on UA-cam about "belting" or "screaming notes", and the video specifies what they do wrong (or rather could have done better!).
+vlanjos4807 It's like dancing, there are techniques too protect yourself. For vocal, the shape of your mouth is important, the air flow, always has to be light. The placement of your larynx, using the muscles at the back of your throat, breathing correctly through your diaphragm and not your chest or shoulders. Another major one is controlling your notes through your stomach muscles. All hard work haha : )
Thanks for adding all the description of what they were doing incorrectly! It's really helpful being able to hear the wrong sound and have an explanation why, makes it easy to learn to identify as you go farther through the video. Great for improving your own technique when listening to play back, thanks for the great reference! :)
Okay so did you guys read 0:08? It said "some still sound good though!". So please, we are not talking about pleasing our ears, but pleasing people who have more knowledge about singing.
Wow, people are so touchy. Even the greatest singers don't sing great ALL the time. It's actually really refreshing because we're so used to hearing the edited and perfect versions of songs on the radio, but they are people and they can have an off performance just like the rest of us. Makes me appreciate them more.
if she did that she wouldn't have a singing career right now, her voice was damaged bc of the tone she had to use to interpretate Cat Valentine, she wasn't really using belting techniques at the time and always lowered her larynx. Also when doing covers, she was kinda trying to sound more like the original singer she has damaged her voice but it has matured into the voice she has now. If you search on youtube Ariana Grande singing disney songs on sc you can clearly see that she lowered her larynx on that F3 in order to make it sound "big". idk just my opinion on that last part of the comment.
+Justine Ferrer it had nothing to do with Cat Valentine... Lmao she sings a lot and most singers damage their vocal cords somewhere down the line and that's what happened. She's a soprano, talking breathy like Cat isn't a problem, she is just always at work with her high notes and without proper technique sometimes it can effect her vocal chords. Smh all these new Arianators blaming everything on Cat lmao.
When Christina sings the song I'M OK, it's such a personal song about her childhood, so, we can understand the flaws in her voice. The album version we can hear the flaws, she can't help being emotional. And the video of her singing this song, was actually the first time she sang the song after the album version. SO, I get her!
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏🙏 they all are so quick to criticize them but they don’t know what it’s like for them or what they have to go through for example Demi lovato she has a drug problem and thank god she has recovered from an overdose but do you think that she’s on stage while singing worrying about having perfect belting technique she’s trying to make sure that she has enough emotion in her song if it’s an emotional song for example stone cold she is trying to make people feel what she is feeling she’s not saying to herself I have to raise my larynx here but not too much cause these fuckers on UA-cam will say I have bad technique otherwise like geez stop hating

It's fallen to really low depths now if someone like Demi Lovato is considered a powerhouse vocalist and one of the best voices of this generation, every famous singer's singer from the last decade to every decade from the 20th century could sing her under the rug.

Gotta screen cap this one for the vocal forums. Never seen so much dumb in one comment before.
dean revees I'm not a huge fan but I don't want everyone to loose their voice
dean revees You do know she is a classically trained vocalist right?
Today I just found out that Zendaya's last name is Coleman

@Duck is lord :D haha 😂😂yeah
Clark Kent if it's not helping you then it's not vocal coaching or maybe you're the problem lmfao
Beyoncé sounds good now, she has proper techbique now
to triggered people: improper technique≠bad voices, it just means that isn't the healthiest and safest technique, but many of these traits is why these artists have a unique tone like Tori kelly, whom im a fan of.
tsuki If the singer has a unique timbre it doesn't mean that he/she has talent; btw Torri was used as a example of good technique in this video
Bey Fan forgot I watched this 😅 But yeah, I can agree with that. :) Also yeah didn’t notice tori was placed having good technique the first time around
There's no such a thing as healthy technique.
Lol how did Whitney Houston not make the "epitome" of good technique and breath support, etc. Whitney Houston is a perfect example of a neutral larynx and phenomenal breath support without any sign of fatigue. Although she is not a perfect singer and may have had very few misplacement of larynx, she is pitch perfect 99% of the time and has a neutral larynx in almost all performances.
raya strong why not
Marco Murillo she is a human too.She doesnt need to do it properly everytime.
Raya Strong 😂😂😂
@Raya Strong Whitney's voice has been damaged since the 2000's... She couldn't even speak let alone singing... Her life choices made her go completely hoarse. She had lost her voice but ultimately gained it back to 75% at the time at her head. Excluding the massive fails during the Nothing But Love Tour
It's possible they just forgot or didn't have any clips at their disposal... not every great singer was included there either.

+Evan the France Totally agree !
some excellent advice, you should upload your tips and advice, I learned more frm u then vid,ty
which probably means, that unlike all of us, they have to sing every day of their lives and have demanding careers which make them make "mistakes" that are not actually wrong because they have to face all sorts of conditions, so it's quite logical to think they couldn't warm-up or drink water, or that they were in a concert room with many changes of temperature and even smoke.

No disrespect to demi Lovato, I've just personally always felt annoyed listening to her belts. It's legit sounds more like she's yelling in pain rather than singing the belted note itself.

@@marlenelaravillegas for you
Sorry, but if u studied singing, belting is NEVER meant to be the only way of singing because belting IS basically screaming.
+Dominic Christian THANK YOUUUUU
ABSOLUTELY. I knew this video was not gonna be entirely accurate when it showed Mariah who sang with bad technique for years. The correct way to pop out the high notes is to mix them. Gaga nailed it. Celine Dion is master at it (although when she does All By Myself she basically has to scream.)
yaasss ppl need to understand mixed voice. ppl constantly mistake a lot of belts as full voice. no
+The Life Of The Lambily Mix is when a singer mix both your head voice together their ur chest voice, most singers just scream the notes out when it reaches their fourth octave and get away with it because it sounds fine hahaha and that is belting. Mariah Carey mixes very well, not as of late but in her prime she was untouchable...
Right? These are good...
just because ariana has ease (sort of) in upper belts and doesn't exactly sound like she straining, does NOT mean she's a good technical singer, ariana fans....

All of you complaining:
1. A good sounding belt is not always healthily placed
2. A healthily placed belt does not always sound good (usually, yes, but not always)
3. Most people who make youtube videos criticizing singers' belts and techniques don't take singing lessons, and just "learn" through other youtube videos (Im not saying this person is not a singer, I have no idea. Maybe they are, maybe not. But im just saying many people who run channels like this one are not singers.)
Don't be so butthurt, singers are human, they're not always gonna have perfect performances. And being a fan of someone does not mean you're gonna have your head up their asses and agree on everything they do and defend them at all cost even when you KNOW you're not being objective.

A lot of these new singers have no technique, it’s sad. They think they can get by because they have the a decent vocal range
Madison seems they're "getting by" just fine with their multiple albums and millions of dollars, soooo....

Ok the Alicia keys one I don't blame her. She was singing at Whitney Houstons funeral, and most likely had been crying before hand. So
Guys, it's not just about the techniques. Stop being so pissy because someone pointed out that it wasn't good for them.

you can definitely hear the difference.

Piercing

"Its hard to do what she doesss" Or giving you a similiar crap just for saying it... aw man. I feel bad for ya. The fans should chill rlly esp if its sth that is true
She actually had good tehnicque when she was on Broadway, watch this video : ua-cam.com/video/gFi7_LFG7OA/v-deo.html
The reason why it went downhill is that she left Broadway and she get pop vocal coach, pop singers don't need tehnicque.
But her tehnicque is improving now,she is better than past few years, listen to swt live vocals. She is getting better and better, maybe she will good as before in future, let's hope so.
Why they do that. Now I know Ariana fans are toxic not just about this but generally most are.
+Christian Demetrius Kidd if she knew what she was doing she would know how to enunciate properly!
+LILRuthlessplaya88 that's just how pop music is, it's an artistic choice, when she sings Broadway, she enunciates much better
Adele should really be on here too
Adele is good though
True
she screams everythingggggg . she hurts her throat all the time . that's why she had two throat surgeries ! ask any vocal instructor , they'll say the same :P
yes, yes and yes. im sorry but she is extremely pitchy and her voice has gotten thin ever since she had vocal surgery and stopped smoking
+Jordan Williams but she still sings like a goddess
Everyone all chill. Ur fav is still rich and producing awsome music lol. Some even still have grammays so it's whatever
Grammys? More like Scammys... ok I should stop.
The Grammy's are stupid, they don't know how to give the right people grammys
nileyfan1998
The grammys only are for the popular singers u:
Dangerous women was amazing idc
She was shouting ...
Bella Rodriguez I said "I don't care" singing or shouting it was amazing
+camilla avery yesss
agreed.
I"ll marry ariana
Some people blindly think if they're stars then they can definitely sing good. Nope.
Cough*Jacob Sartorius*Cough
+Gaby Hernandez Truuu
+Gaby Hernandez I may like Jacob but I agree he can't sing at all
+Marah Stokes yeah same here
Well said!
Why do people not realize that the video is just to show bad technique. Someone can sound amazing while using a bad technique. The video isn't bashing anyone only showing examples. Goodness...
it's crazy how even when they're messing up they're amazing
Not really
Yess
Maybe to the untrained ear (which is most of the audience)
Amazing? God, raise your standards
As someone who has never took singing lessons I thought this was very interesting! They're all absolutely talented singers but now that you point out these things I definitely hear the difference! Especially in the breathing support
Love this video! Proper vocal technique is crucial to a healthy voice and a long career. Singing takes so much work and practice and if you push your voice out the wrong way, you can permanently damage it.
ok but ariana still fucking killed it 😍😍
yessssss
Yessssssssss
Ugh you people .
Yeah, like wtf is this bitch talking about how it was a bad belt
truuu😍
You do realize that proper belting technique REQUIRES high larynx. Not sure if you were not properly informed or what happened there. Also shouting notes isn’t necessarily unhealthy and it’s often a stylistic choice.
Demi is just like ariana 😭😭 too much shouting and squeaking i cant
Dafuq.....
Uhmm no .
Yes!!!
if you didn't know, ariana was in tour for a year and her songs were mostly in the octaves.
Demi and miley do seem like they're about to give birth tho . On the picture of the video
Some of these improper techniques were done on purpose.
For those of us who are vocal peasants and don't know a thing about vocal techniques, what was wrong? What do you mean by improper technique? I want to learn.
Idek, I thought they were all great...
Ariana Grande is extremely trained and hers sounded fine...
With you there
even in rihannas bad moments she still killed that shit
YESSSS
ISSA AND MELANIE YES SLAY
Right
lmao you have to be joking
Okay so did you guys read 0:08? It said "some still sound good though!". So please, we are not talking about pleasing our ears, but pleasing people who have more knowledge about singing.
Wow, people are so touchy. Even the greatest singers don't sing great ALL the time. It's actually really refreshing because we're so used to hearing the edited and perfect versions of songs on the radio, but they are people and they can have an off performance just like the rest of us. Makes me appreciate them more.
Ariana has been faking her tone since 2013, her natural voice is much more deep. I bet that's why she hasn't given a decent belt since then.
I agree and I think her voice sounds much better deeper
if she did that she wouldn't have a singing career right now, her voice was damaged bc of the tone she had to use to interpretate Cat Valentine, she wasn't really using belting techniques at the time and always lowered her larynx. Also when doing covers, she was kinda trying to sound more like the original singer she has damaged her voice but it has matured into the voice she has now. If you search on youtube Ariana Grande singing disney songs on sc you can clearly see that she lowered her larynx on that F3 in order to make it sound "big". idk just my opinion on that last part of the comment.
em her tessitura is naturally high, in fact it's really high
em her tessitura is naturally high, in fact it's really high
+Justine Ferrer it had nothing to do with Cat Valentine... Lmao she sings a lot and most singers damage their vocal cords somewhere down the line and that's what happened. She's a soprano, talking breathy like Cat isn't a problem, she is just always at work with her high notes and without proper technique sometimes it can effect her vocal chords. Smh all these new Arianators blaming everything on Cat lmao.
tori Kelly always on point so don't you dear
No, she put tori in there as a good example, not as one of the bad
Best grammar ever
+Mya Schad is that Patrick Stump i see
dare not dear
+Julie Nguyen Maybe she's dyslexic. 😂
When Christina sings the song I'M OK, it's such a personal song about her childhood, so, we can understand the flaws in her voice. The album version we can hear the flaws, she can't help being emotional. And the video of her singing this song, was actually the first time she sang the song after the album version. SO, I get her!
Amy Lee has such a rich and beautiful....if she coupled it up with a technically good voice she'd have been an unmatchable vocalist!
Ariana always kills it!
True that!
True that!
yea😍
She'll kill her voice if she keeps using bad technique.
+MartyHasNoLife mad?
99% of the comments are about the butthurt fans
1% are actually butthurt fans
Those 99% smartasses should mind their own business😂😂💛
Andrei Simionas 😂
@@jamesquinn1220 regardless of Demi Lovato's personal life, she SHOULD be worried about proper trchnique and not about sounding emotional in her songs. She's a singer, if she continues to scream in an attempt to sound impressive, she could damage her vocals
Garry Eagle first of all she didn’t scream she belts, so stfu about that and yes she should be worrying about technique but not in every performance like yes technique is a priority but in some performances it’s not a main one sounding emotional and getting the message through, “Anyone” for example she should be focusing more on putting emotion into her song instead of worrying about technique and don’t say she screams in an effort to impress everyone because she doesn’t even have to sing to impress everyone so shush
@@jamesquinn1220 actually, she should be worrying about proper technique in every performance, not just in some. She is a singer, it's her career. She can belt and still have good breath support, etc. but she doesn't. We aren't talking about other singers, we are talking specifically about Demi, though. If she keeps screaming like a banshee, she won't have a voice to sing with so you can stfu☺
I forgot Zendaya can sing oops
could*
Can't*
ooooo god damn that's EDGY
I forgot also.... I was like what is she doing here
I JUST CHOCKED ON MY WATER
ariana’s voice was absolutely beautiful when she was younger, nowadays, it’s hardly supported
she had more musical theatre training so i guess technique was stronger then. But now she doesnt do those kinds of training/music anymore so maybe shes forgotten technique

20 years in the industry though and Xtina still has one of the best voices out there, thanks to her bad technique.
I wish demi would do rock songs she would ughhh yass
She would do great
Making Spring rolls Her ‘Don’t Forget’ Album Is My Favorite ❤️
In her younger singing years she did kinda pop rock music but most people were saying that she was copying Hayley Williams(btw didn’t even realize who she was until I realized (well I think) she sings I’m into you and stay the night) but yeah people were saying that which is kinda stupid if you ask me
I had no fucking clue fergie could sing like that
You mean NOT sing like that
Literally used Barbra as an example, you've got my like and heart. Love Barbra!!!
