Always great information on this channel. Very grounded, sincere, realistic, current, common sense etc.
I don't easily adhere to most Americans with UA-cam Channels on Thailand because they come across in a way I don't particularly like.
This guy is a fantastic exception.
Much appreciated
@@TheNarrowGate
Don't know if it's your upbringing, the area you're from in U.S or just you as an individual, but you come across very relatable to Europeans. Unfortunately many Americans who have UA-cam Channels in Thailand don't.
Thank you very much! Where are you from?
He forgot the most popular visa, the visa service bribery visa...
TNG...Most of the YT channels show Thailand in the cheap rent/condo. They show the street food. They show the night life. They show the resorts.
If your going to retire there.? You need to see the "Day 2 Days". Food/Grocery/Laundry/Weather/Local-Federal Government(Visa-Taxes) Banking. More Thai people on the street interactions. (Car-Motorcycle repair//Haircuts/Cleaning services)
Then the whole huge issue of Medical-Dental and Insurance. This is not as sexy but EXTREMMLEY relevant and important to long term happiness.
True
@@TheNarrowGatehi scott from New Zealand would 20million baht and pension last me at least ten years living in Thailand not sure your help much appreciated
The 'Chiang Mai Visa Shop' sorted me out a retirement visa, and while it wasn't cheap it was well worth the ease and was stress free.
I have been interested in Thailand for a long time. Your videos really stand out in being succinct, but being extremely informative at the same time. Thank you! Would be nice seeing you get out more and showing us more about everyday Chiang Mai.
Awesome, thank you!
Great advice ….. been watching a lot of ur videos lately 👍🏼. Very honest and transparent.
I appreciate that!
I have been here (in the North) for 12 years on "retirement visa" , good advice on this channel.
Thank you 🙏
First! I love your videos so much ❤
Yay! Thank you!
Great video, it staggers me how many people don't prepare and are not prepared, you should have at a MINIMUM 500,000 in savings in addition to what ever you plan on budgeting
As long as Thailand demands a huge bank deposit for a Retirement Visa. it will never be a haven for retirees. Cambodia is the clear winner in this department.
It's not a bad thing as Thailand wants people with enough funding to live, not expats who haven't.
I'd say, if anyone over 50 hasn't the required funds to be sat in a Thai bank, they don't have the funds to live there either.
Many expats are underfunded and it's just a matter of time before they go broke.
Agreed!! Siem Reap is underrated in my opinion but I like it that way :)
Cambodia? As you enter into the years where healthcare is needed you want people to move to Cambodia? I hope you are joking and it flew over my head.
@@Retirementbliss If you have no other choice, you have to take a chance.
Very good advice!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️👍🙏
it is not difficult at all if you are over 50 nd use a visa agency to take care of everything
Thanks for the useful information like always , little things like this helps look 👀 into our own needs in what might be best for my trip over
Good content, see you on the next episode - have a great day 🙏

JOIN Bicycle riding clubs. You'll meet many friends
I am visiting Chiang Mai in October for 3 weeks and plan to visit Assist Thai Visa and get things rolling for next year (probably around June) when I'll get a retirement visa as I retire in March.
I’ll bet you’re getting excited! ❤️🇹🇭
@@TheNarrowGate extremely!
Shout out to Assist Thai Visa. Just as you say Tony they are great. I emailed them about which retirement visa I should do? They wrote a full page with three visa types. They are great!
Awesome 😎
I have used Assist Thai visa for many years - they are consistently great. @@TheNarrowGate
Thank you so much for this video. I’m coming on a retirement one. Just have to save the money now…
Have you visited before?
From vast experience, do not move to Thailand without having visited first and for atleast two months of travelling around different areas. It's a big country.
😎👍
@@keepitreal1547 not yet. I plan to around Nov or Dec if things pan out for me like I hope. But Jan is my bday month & my son and I have been wanting to move their for a while now but I still have questions and other questions to ask & things to figure out
@@MewGulfWaanjai A word of warning and reality.
Absolutely make sure you have enough funds before making it a permanent move.
Thank you for sharing this! I recently started watching your channel. Do you by any chance have any recos for sewing groups?
There is a Chiang Mai hand sewing club. You can find it on Facebook groups.
@@TheNarrowGate Ty! That is the one I saw, I'm also looking around for regular sewing classes like with a machine as well~
Tony , so basically you are saying : please make sure your visa is approved so you don’t lose friends! 😅😅😊😊
Pretty much
It baffles me how many people move/retire in Thailand without having ever visited before. It's a recipe for disaster in most cases.
Also in comments there's always people who have never visited, yet say they're moving to Thailand.
Guys, with lots of experience I'm telling you, you must visit first and for atleast afew months, plus travel different areas, it's a big country.
I'm only 26 and I plan on moving there for at least 6 months minimum, and I've never been there before. I've already been in touch with some people, and a Visa Agent in Thailand who is walking me through the process of being able to live there.
But for me, Bangkok is the perfect middle point for traveling other countries close by, I plan on spending a good amount of time in Japan.
Many have the odd belief they can just move here and work. Tried explaining to many online and they just won,t listen. I still firmly believe that most foreigners just don,t belong here both expat and tourist. It seems they get many of these wild ideas from websites and certain UA-cam channels. I gave up years ago bothering to help. They just will not listen.
As far as friends go I have a total of one in Thailand.
One is enough for me
Thanks!
Thank you very much 🙏❤️
Amazing video as always
Thank you!!!!
Thank you for your videos. Hope we can meet soon in Chiang mai
Any time!
Yup, and now "Big Joke" is going to jack up the cost for retirement visa extensions. He says they are "too low".
Tony, one thing I am curious about is whether or not this makes you hesitant to make new friends - allow people to get close to you. We started looking for our expat haven a couple of years ago and the first place we went was Merida, Mexico. We met a lot of expats and while a couple were extremely friendly / willing to take us under their wing right away, others literally wouldn't give us the time of day because they were tired of people coming and going.
I usually don’t think about whether a person will stay or go. Some I don’t mind leaving though. 😂
@@TheNarrowGate Haha... yes, I saw that too. Thailand and most notably Chiang Mai has always been top of my list to explore - a good friend of mine has lived there for many years and married a Thai woman. He couldn't be happier. Hopefully, one day, I will get to ride bikes with you. I sold my Harley here in the US - we live in Savannah, but will definitely have a bike when I get to SE Asia.
Most ex pats are assholes.. Avoid like thre plague…
The people who will not give you the time of day are probably not worth knowing. When I see people looking at a map on the street, I will stop and help. There are plenty of nice people out there and the length of time you spend connecting/helping is of little importance - if you are sitting on a train and start talking w/an interesting stranger, it is still worth the time - not everyone is going to become a lifelong friend - but that doesn't disqualify them. I have enjoyed and learned from many brief encounters both in and outside of Chiang Mai.
Honeymoon period lasts only a month
I try to avoid falang in Thailand, thats why i'm there.
Thumbs up 👍 Tony
Thanks 👍
Greetings and Salutations to the best channel in YT!
On the visa notes, the Elite is going down for a rearangement of packages and prices.
According to the Thai Embassy org: "Due to the discontinuation of the current Thailand Elite Visa programs, new applications must be submitted before September 15, 2023."
If they insert an Investment for Return option in the new packages, I'm so game, I'm so game!!!!
Salutations, The Narrow Gate!!!
They change things so much! Everything will be different next year. And the year after that. Thanks for watching! Good to hear from you!
What would happen if you did not renew your visa and got caught?
Jail
I heard on a different channel that the elite visa is discontinuing ...I heard Sep will be the end date . Have you heard this ?
As far as I know it is available. 😊
Things change on a dime though.
Yes, I believe Sept 15 is the last day you can apply. The new elite visa options will be released in October and the expectation is a doubling in price!
Elite visa not discontinued, but there will be fewer long-stay options and higher costs.
The "Retirement" Visa is an "O" Visa?
There are two
O. And O-x ( multiple enter)
My comment about 65k baht per month vs 800k baht for retirement visa and the ability to move from 800k to 65k seems to have disappeared. Maybe because I mentioned a Facebook group by name?
I don’t see it either. If you don’t mind, you can type it again.
Can I fly in and out of country?
Yes, must have a re-entry permit.
Thx for responding. I was wondering if I can just get a new tourist visa that way instead of doing a border run
I am 56. Girlfriend is 28. We want to move Thailand. I know I qualify for retirement visa. What type of visa does she qualify for? She has a 10 year old also. He will be with us.

ED Visa? Ummmm, do I show the prescription my doctor gave me to the immigration officer……..sorry I couldn’t resist
lol
Xpat friends are highly overrated lol...
How about there not financial ready 800,000 in the bank leave it there and yes I’m over 50 and retired . Thailand could make it easier to get a visa for anyone if they wanted there economy to prosper . Things here seam to never change for the better .
Why should Thailand make it easy?
They want expats with enough funds to live the life they would like, not expats who don't have the funds and go broke.
The Thai government have it right in my opinion.
Try Cambodia 👍🏻
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏 !!!!!!!
You got to keep on moving to other countries Phillipines, cambodia, veitnam and Malaysia etc 😂 !
listen to you not make my friend
