Taming bats/spiders on official servers with standard tame rates is nearly impossible. And the dodo-rex just murders the dinos of anyone who tries to kill it (and it eats metal bases... lovely). And almost no one can craft a stone behemoth gate due to the weight requirement to hold the materials now. And breeding a high level meat eater on normal (official server) spoil/maturation rates is absolutely masochistic and requires that you have no job and do not sleep. And the quetzals platform saddle was allowing people to transport/drop alpha dino's onto other players' bases (even on pve)... ARK's updates in October have been pretty "stupid". It's a great game, I love it, and the dev's have been awesome in general. But god they've got to get their heads back in the game.
I have to agree on the point that making the game harder does not make it better. I think they're trying to find a balance. Like, the Broodmother? Too easy. The Dodorex? Cmon, is near impossible. But your right. They are a great team and I'm sure it'll werk out eventually. ;)

Admin used a Dodorex to clean out old bases today and it ripped through metal behemoth gates like nothing. We are on a 10x server and he stormed a base with dozens of plant and gun turrets in a few minutes.

I think what's happening is that when you aggro something, it aggros both you and your allies (mounts included). Bug repellent makes it so you won't aggro bugs, but your mounts still do, which is why the taming only worked when the argies were away and both of you had repellent on. Try remote using the bug repellent on the argie and see if you can get closer with your bird and still not peeve the spider off.

I think passive tames don't work very well if there is anything belonging to you or your tribe around. Whether it is a tamed creature or a structure.
