Purchased 3 of these lights after watching this in September 2019. Used the lights for 3 hours and was happy. Placed them in the original box until 4 months later when I needed them and 2 of the 3 won't take a charge. Grrrrrr Boling P1s!!!
Gerald Undone I got this light after you pumped it up, so I said why not and let me say this is a great light one of the best i've had at this size. I might leave my wife for it lol Love it bro. Thanks a lot LOVE IT!!!!
Hey man, thanks for this review. I went ahead and purchased one. Also, you make the most informative/watchable videos on UA-cam. Well organized and to the point. Thanks!
The timing of this review couldn't have been better. I was going to pick up the Aputure AL-MW while out at NAB in a few weeks but, you're right the Boling is much better. Thx for putting it on my radar.
When i saw those light effects! Im sold! Its gonna be great for the horror short films i do.. scary lightening effect, also the cop light effect and the candle light effect!.
Hey Gerald! The Boling P1 is a cool light, also for the pricepoint. Thx for the review! A few month ago I've seen the Litra Pro as a small, versatile, waterproof and batterypowered light. Only bicolor, but has 800 lux (1m) and a smartphone conection. Sadly it costs 250€. I might take a Boling P1 (RGB and USB-C). You should have a look at the LitraPro LED.
Nearly 1 year later and your getting another thumbs up. Your videos are clean, quick, to the point, and packed with info. Thanks for sharing and taking the time and energy to create such great, meaningful, high quality content. -Will
I had been watching and reviewing several lights and finally came across your recommendation. I purchased this light based upon your review and absolutely love it. Thanks for reviewing and the help. I am now a subscriber!
I ordered this after I saw this video and have had it a few weeks now, being one of the first shipments to arrive in Australia. Totally agree, the Boling P1 LED is one of the best video lights I've ever used. So versatile and the battery life is amazing. I set it at 50% brightness as a video background green light on a shelf and forgot about it for two days before I realised it was still on.
Dude, thank you. This was superinformative and I'm going to snatch one up now. Also, I really appreciate your delivery-- so many gear review channels I visit feel like they are speaking to their audience like nervous substitute teachers on their first day of 7th grade. You put me at ease from the get-go while simultaneously delivering a HUGE amount of digestible information in a very short time span. Can't wait to check out your other vids!
That looks great, and might be the most versatile light I've seen. Nate's Film Tutorials did a review on the Iwata gl-01 which is like the illegitimate love child of the Sokani and the Aputure AL-MW. Great stuff out there these days!
Gerald, your review was so good that I bought one. I tried it, and decided to get another one.! Bad movement. Lights don't even get closer from one unit to another. One runs on orange and the other on blue. Same settings, etc... totally different results.
I'm always amazed at how much great info you give in such a compact video, man. So much information density. And yes, I just complimented you by calling you dense.
thanks so much for this review! This is exactly what I was needing but didn’t know what to get. mine is arriving soon as an early birthday present to myself.
Nice one! Fun to watch another UA-camr review the same product. I’d say you were more thorough than I was 🙂 Great meeting you at NAB last week. Also if you want to learn how to get rid of the LCD display flicker, hit me on IG or wherever we were chatting and I’ll walk you through it.
Another great review. The price seems pretty good for what it can do. Thank you. You continue to be the best technical reviewer. Even if I am not in the market for something, I still get good information from what you present.
I'm sold. Looks like such a handy light to have. As you say at the start though, there are so many good options, the Sokani and F7 good options in their own right too..
finally I got mine delivered today. What an awsome valueaddition !!! Thanks Gerald. just a passing thought, it will be nice if these guys some how incorporate some more effects. I see that possibility because of the USB port, so may be in the near futire they launch a new firmware.
On your recommendation, I bought two. I love them. I do a fair amount of studio macro photography and prefer continuous light. Being small, and able to sit on its side as well as attached to a small magic arm, these lights are perfect for positioning the light right where I want it. I actually like the quality of the light although I do occasionally need to add diffusion and/or a bit of black wrap to direct the light. So your review is much appreciated. It's had a positive impact on my work flow. Thank you kind sir.
Hey! I saw Brandon W use this light and found you by searching for more info. Glad I did! I am DEF buying one next week. Also, I subbed to your channel. Look forward to watching your vids my dude!
Very helpful! So many new RGB lights coming out. Other than needing really strong output, it's good to wait and get RGB lights. I have the Luxli pannels and they rock! This would be a good addition as an accent light or to enhance practical lights on sets.
Thumbs up. .... and I tell you something....theres only one thing brighter than that LED lamp on UA-cam... and that's you!! Hahayyy.... 👍 Nice one Gerald. Best wishes..
Cool. I saw this light a couple weeks ago and was curious about it.i Thanks for reviewing it. I'd also think a solid competitor to this light is the Luxli Viola. Right now it's on sale for $200. I'd be curious about the output differences as the Luxli's have those focusing lenses in front of each WRGB LED. I'm also always wary of internal rechargeable batteries, particularly with unknown brands. I've even heard Anker having QC issues with their batteries holding charges over time. Anyway, thanks again for making this video.
I've never seen a more entertaining video about lights. I'm not even looking for a light at the moment. Lol but I can pass up the dun dun hes crazy! Have a great weekend man. Alright... I'm done!
Great review Gerald, just bought a couple of these, been waiting to find a RGB version that was the size of an a Aladdin A Lite and now have them, I work as a professional Gaffer and they will be perfect in cars, as accent lights and hiding a light source anywhere quick.
Historically, purple is the colour of royalty... is this some Freudian insight into Gerald's fixation with the colour? Heh, heh... Very helpful video, bruh...
Great light and great value. It seems a better value than the Luxli Viola 5" On-Camera RGB LED Light, which is also a great RGB light. Only down side is it doesn't use the NP batteries. (If you have two batteries, you can charge the backup one while using one so you basically get infinite batter life)
I wonder how many caught the Star Wars reference.. It's been 42 years since that line was first heard on the silver screen.. Man how time flies.. Great little light though.. flk k
Bless up G undone. really appreciate this info I will surely pick up this light. what do you think about Yongnuo YN360 Light Wand? would very much like to see our here from you about this light. Big Up GU
Great work, man. But why in heavens when people review this light they don't show it in action???? No footage of the P1 mounted in the camera in different situations. I don't get it... Cheers Alex
Gerald I was just on amazon looking for something like this and love what you reviewed here in this product but I found another product that seems to have all these features for 50.00. What am I missing on this one? It’s called the Vallkay K10 RGB. I want the Boling but if I can get the same quality at 50.00, that’s a big difference. The only thing that popped out to me is the boling is vlog and I don’t see that mentioned on the Vallkay. My lumix S1 has vlog and it’s apparently that’s a great thing for color as I’m learning. Please tell me what you think.
nice review. i also looked your tutoabout lux. is 1480 lux at 0.5m better than lume cube 750 lux at 1meter ? in other words, is it better than lumecube ? which kind of panel would be select to have more lux (ie : 35x21cm panel) for studio photography ?
Mr Undone, Have you heard of any way of buying only the arm for the Boling BL-P1 light? It seems like it would be useful for a lot of other lights as well as I own the similarly featured Lume Cube Light. Thanks regardless of the answer if there's an answer!
Just got the small led. I like the minimalist touch. QUESTION: a bit off topic but what are you using to record your voice? Boom mic? also for voiceovers? Production quality went up a lot for your channel!
I record everything at the same time, no separate VO session (unless I messed something up). So it's all talking head using the Samson C02 mic. It's in my gear link in the description if you want to know more. Cheers!
I need another light like I need a hole in the head buuuuuut...😂😂😂 Man, great light/review! Have you seen any source to get extra swivel mounts for this? That mount is exceptional
Hello Gerald. Can you tell me if this has more power output than the FlaconEyes F7 and also can you control the lighting effects at all or is it like the F7? Thank you.
Damn you Gerald for making me spend more money.... But this checks so many boxes. Have been looking for a portable RGB light for a while, have been disappointed at options (YN 360 as one). No app control? How's the RGB output compared to the bi-color output?
Hi! 😃 I can suggest a couple. These two videos together should give you a pretty good idea of my lighting: ua-cam.com/video/2ZETMw53hi4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/l2FCDaVNx78/v-deo.html
Anything I need to look out for as far as frame rates and banding? I have some cheap led light strips that I absolutely cannot get rid of the banding effect.
great review as usual, Gerald! This light is INSANE! I def need to buy one or two...😈 How is the RBG brightness output compared to the brightest 5500k setting?
I'm a little late to the party, but hopefully you can give me some advice. I'm looking for a RGB light that's kinda small to be like an accent light behind when recording video in the studio. I was looking at this boling, but it looks to be so small that it doesn't have enough power/light for that purpose. Maybe there's something better for what I'm looking for?
When you say its less than a stop darker than the f7, i'm trying to gauge in my mind how bright that is. The F7 is supposed to be aputures brightest offering at that size, but when i tested it out in the store, it was fighting with the in store lighting at even a meter away. A few questions to try to gauge this: So would you say that if your f7 can be properly exposed at iso 100, that you would need to move closer to your subject or drop it to at least iso 200 to get a decent exposure, or would you have to push it even further to iso 400? This particularly worries me with the jump from iso 800 to 3200... those full 2 stops can be the difference between barely any and a lot of noise on my camera. Secondly, lets say you're in a kitchen with a single window on one side and your subject is standing in the middle of the room. Do you think this light can be used to overpower the sunlight coming in through the window at more than a meter away, thus being viable as a decent key light? Thirdly, have you experienced any difference in the AMOUNT of light being output between RGB mode and bicolor? Are these modes 100% separate or, given the fact that it operates on HSL, does it give you the ability to combine both to give you a higher effective brightness at less saturated colors? This question is of particular interest to me given how terrible my YN360 IIs are as a key light, especially in RGB mode. It would be nice to be able to color my light A BIT but not risk lowering the effective brightness in the process
How does the max output compare to the Aputure Al-MX light in its regular output set to max, not the boost mode? Any idea? Excellent review man, we appreciate it.
I'm having issues charging...it takes too long and the indicator is barely moving. I'm charging using the USB A to USB C provided cable connected to the USB port from the wall outlet.
Purchased 3 of these lights after watching this in September 2019. Used the lights for 3 hours and was happy. Placed them in the original box until 4 months later when I needed them and 2 of the 3 won't take a charge. Grrrrrr Boling P1s!!!

One of the most cleverly designed products I have ever seen.
Hey man, thanks for this review. I went ahead and purchased one.

@@geraldundone well deserved !

Got it with your link. Thanks for the extensive review!
You've quickly become my favorite reviewer.
I'm honoured! Thanks, Alan.
When i saw those light effects! Im sold! Its gonna be great for the horror short films i do.. scary lightening effect, also the cop light effect and the candle light effect!.
Yep, this is the same reason i want to get this light too, all other rgb led prices are crazy
Just got this light. Very impressed by its color, brightness and general build quality.
Awesome! Glad you like it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Been looking for a pocket / camera-mounted light for a while that could really go the distance. Thanks for reviewing this!
Hey Gerald!

You hit all the points and i like how you added some pros and cons from its other competitors 👍🏼

Wow! You covered a ton of information in a short amount of time. Exactly the kind of info. I needed...much appreciated!
That's rad. Been considering some RGB stuff, this seems like a lot of functionality for a relatively small investment.
thanks so much for this review! This is exactly what I was needing but didn’t know what to get. mine is arriving soon as an early birthday present to myself.
Thanks for the kind words! And happy birthday!
that is everything i have been looking for in a light!!! Thanks for the review. Wow.

Found a almost identical model on Amazon for 75 bux, fell in love with them, def worth it, well constructed!

Wow it's like a mini 120d with those effects lol great little light and nice review!

Great review.
$159, in the UK it is £155, another case of treasure Island !
What a little beast of special effects!!!
Great review Gerald- what model no is light coming out from aperature. Is there is release date yet

Wowza... 42 years!?
Amazing review Gerald! You mentioned its not waterproof... How is it to use in rainy weather?
Always good Gerald!
Bless up G undone. really appreciate this info I will surely pick up this light. what do you think about Yongnuo YN360 Light Wand? would very much like to see our here from you about this light.
Big Up GU
Crap. You’re like the best salesman ever. Never seen your channel before and now I’m subscribed and $150 less rich off one video.
Thanks Gerald, have you tried the gvm RGB-10S ? I think it has this one beat as it is almost 3 times cheaper and a great light.
Ok, I almost lost it at that intro song... lol
😂😜👍
Nice! Finally a light that beats the Luxli Viola/Cello which were a bit too pricey (300-500 dollar)
Great work, man. But why in heavens when people review this light they don't show it in action???? No footage of the P1 mounted in the camera in different situations. I don't get it... Cheers
Alex
Love your channel!
"Hit the dislike button twice" hahahahaha. I'm stealing this.
Another great video! Thank you.

This seems useful in an indie horror flick with the different modes.
Mr Undone,
Have you heard of any way of buying only the arm for the Boling BL-P1 light? It seems like it would be useful for a lot of other lights as well as I own the similarly featured Lume Cube Light. Thanks regardless of the answer if there's an answer!
I'd be interested to see how this compares to the Falcon Eyes F7, they both look virtually identical.
Steve I second this suggestion!
I Liked the rotations ways!
Cheers!
I need another light like I need a hole in the head buuuuuut...😂😂😂
Man, great light/review!
Have you seen any source to get extra swivel mounts for this? That mount is exceptional
I haven't yet, but I'll keep my eye open. 😃
Dang that things a tiny beast. Definetly going on the to buy list
As far as I know there's no app control on this guy, but it's tiny! :)
The RGB output is quite strong--within 1/2 to 1/3 of a stop of the bi-color.
It sound so good that I ordered one
Hi!! Do you have any tutorial on what light do you use for your videos? Thanks!! ;)
Hi! 😃 I can suggest a couple. These two videos together should give you a pretty good idea of my lighting:
ua-cam.com/video/2ZETMw53hi4/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/l2FCDaVNx78/v-deo.html
This looks amazing! Reaching for my wallet.
hey Gerald, did you try the usb-c to usb-c charging with multiple cables? just seems really annoying to have to carry around a usb-a to usb-c cable
Anything I need to look out for as far as frame rates and banding? I have some cheap led light strips that I absolutely cannot get rid of the banding effect.
ok i bought it and it is the best small light ever!!! tnx!!
Well done undone!
great review as usual, Gerald! This light is INSANE! I def need to buy one or two...😈 How is the RBG brightness output compared to the brightest 5500k setting?
Thanks! Great question. It's quite good. It varies a little between the colours, but falls between 1/3 to 1/2 stop darker than the 5500K.
@@geraldundone awesome sauce! thanks for the info. i am most definitely investing in these badboys!
I'm a little late to the party, but hopefully you can give me some advice. I'm looking for a RGB light that's kinda small to be like an accent light behind when recording video in the studio. How does the max output compare to the Aputure Al-MX light in its regular output set to max, not the boost mode? Any idea? Excellent review man, we appreciate it.
About double. Maybe even a little more.
Gerald Undone double?!? So I have no reason not to sell my Aputure and purchase this? Done.
Bought two. Love them so so much.
I'm having issues charging...it takes too long and the indicator is barely moving. I'm charging using the USB A to USB C provided cable connected to the USB port from the wall outlet.
Niiice video, i was thinking to buy the GVM RGB 10S is only 75$ dolars, what u think? maybe u get undone in future! :D
If it's anything like the 50RS, which I have reviewed, then it will probably be pretty good.
have you tried the falcon eyes f7? seems almost the same
Super useful thank you!
i was just about to buy the aputure one thats similar, this wins though! thanks!
Wicked! ..but they need to waterproof it...
..giveaway @ 50K?? :)
