My first amusement park, and my first roller coaster. I was scared, but my dad got me on, and ever since I've loved them. It's tragic that this small park is no longer around. I have fond memories of my family having picnics under the shelter, my best friend riding the Zipper over and over till he got sick. Feeding the fishes by the lake docks... they don't make family parks like this anymore. Farewell, Americana. But thanks for all the memories 😊
+Alexis O'Hara It was my first wooden one. But the little steel one in the park was my first ever, I think. My favorite ride was the whip...I think that's what it was called :D
I remember going to Americana a lot when I was in my teens because it was cheaper than going to King Island. I have been on that coaster many times and remember it being very rough but fun coaster.
designed by John A. Miller in 1939. it was a fuckin classic. you truly had to ride it too really appreciate it. sadly, this pov sucks... and it stood SBNO for years, merely rotting away with the ohio forgotten... but glad to see this many fans still remember it!
Actually, Americana is still there. It's just rotting. Watch Life After People: Sin City Apocolypse to see what it looks like today. It's really cool. Life After People took me to this!
2:09 Oh nostalgia! how it turns average experiences into excellent ones. Honestly it's sad that this park is gone. It had better prices than King's Island. In the end, we all lose when there isn't any competition.
As to your other question. As far as I know there were not any direct replicas made of John Miller's coasters. Worse there are not many Miller originals left. However, John Allen followed in Miller's shadow and there are still many of his coasters in operation. Six Flags over Georgia has the Allen Classic 'American Scream Machine' which is similar to the Screechin Eagle. Also Allen's associate William Cobb built the Judge Roy Scream, also a similar coaster.
That thing was a death trap. I remember the operator had to manually stop the train by pulling a large brake handle just as the train entered the station. If he or she didn't have the muscles, you got to go again. I think I rode that thing five or six times in a row once.
@poofy917 Ha! Not even close! Really old Hi8 analogue camera with zero image stabilization. Was a really old camera, and at that time, I had only taken video of maybe 10 roller coasters total! I got much better at filming rides! ;)
Wow right down memory lane. Americana was such a great park growing up. I remember $9.99 ticket day buy one get one free. Suck Kings Island! I cannot tell you how many times i rode the Screechin Eagle. I just remember I was on top of the world and would ride it 10x each time i visited. Me and my buddy thought we were indestructible little bad asses all summer long!
+Doug Martin Ditto. I loved this place. And then with the coke and pepsi can promotions...sometimes my best friend and I would set out from NKy and just stop on the way to get the cans. We weren't sure there was a promotion on or if we'd find the right cans, but it seemed like we'd be able to get them whenever, wherever. I got to take the kids I babysat to this park and they were still a bit too small for the roller coasters, but we road the log flume and the scrambler (those were neighbors, I think) and the whip... loved it there so much.
to bad they tore it down that jerry couch ruinded my childhood memories because i yous to go there every summer for my grandpas compny picnics and that jerry couch had to get rid of americana now if they got rid of kings island i would not know what to do because my my use to work there and my grandma would baby sit my sisters and i there till my mom would get off and we would go home and do the same thing the next day and we got in free since my mom wored there
Did anyone ride the ski lift looking thing over the park (I can't remember my own name, so I have no shot at remembering the ride's name). I rode it a few times but I remember coming back and it being down or closed. That thing never felt safe but it was fun. The thing you have to understand about me is that I never road anything beyond a merry-go-round until I was 15 after my babysitters forced me on to two really fast rides when I was 4ish. At 15, I agreed to ride a ferris wheel with my best friend and I enjoyed it. So I tried my mom's favorite ride, the Electric Rainbow/Round Up and I LOVED it. So I just tried everything...except roller coasters. The first time I got brave enough was at Americana. I did have a chance to ride a few coasters at King's Island, but I don't really like King's Island. I got to ride the steel coaster at Coney Island (Cincinnati)...the one like the one at Americana. It was fun. But I have to say, I'd rather Sunlight Pool any day of the week over any ride.
Oh my goodness I miss americana's so muchthis was without a doubt the best wooden roller coaster that they had in Ohio, better than the beast, and definitely better than the son of beast which I almost broke my back, if I'm not mistaken I think fantasy farm was right next to Americana, 💭it was either and Hamilton, or was it in Middletown, 🤔 IDK, I'm from Dayton, help me out a little bit
Another prime example of a Miller/Allen style out and back is the Cannon Ball at Lake Winnepesaukah in Georgia. This coaster is loved and cared for by it's owner(s) and it always looks like new. It is a short ride, more or less a family coaster rather than a thriller, but it is a thing of beauty. Where are you located? Perhaps I can hunt a similar coaster down for you.
See my reply above. A fool by the name of Jerry Couch...an RV salesman bought the property thinking he could run the place. He bailed after the first year and kept complaining he couldn't find someone to manage the place. So instead of PROPERLY selling the park off, he just let it all sit and rot away. Apparently he has other plans for the property and took it upon himself to start erasing history and began to raze the structures in the park, including this coaster.
Oh I read it very well but if you are going post coaster footage & most of the other commentaters agree as well. If the person whom filmed this is someone you know, I respect you supporting this person, but I would rather honest than to lie them & say Oh this is great! The moral of this is this person should work on sharpening their filming skills. Not being mean, just being honest.

Farewell, Americana. But thanks for all the memories 😊
I rode this thing and it was a really wonderful little coaster. Shame the park closed, lots of great memories there.
My first coaster ever! Was truly a classic!
+Alexis O'Hara It was my first wooden one. But the little steel one in the park was my first ever, I think. My favorite ride was the whip...I think that's what it was called :D
The little steel one was my first and worked my nerve up for this beast lol
@Arch1Kid I started to wee when I was a baby. In fact, it was one of the first things I did when I was born.
My church youth group would take us to Americana every summer. I miss it, and Fantasy Farm.
This was my first roller coaster too then the vortex and the beast
Are you sure you want to completely demolish Wooden Roller Coaster 1?
It was Americana park when I visited. They had a pretty cool wildcat-style ride called the Serpent. It was little but had a really cool track layout!
This coaster was proof that bigger doesn't mean better. It had some of the most intense, "Oh Dear God" airtime airtime I've ever experienced!
I so very much miss this coaster, one of the best for true airtime!
I still have a park map of this place.
I remember going to Americana a lot when I was in my teens because it was cheaper than going to King Island. I have been on that coaster many times and remember it being very rough but fun coaster.
That ride is scary.
@@CoasterMan13Official Coaster enthusiast?
If this is footage of a coaster that is no longer there, it should be posted.
Man...I went there once. The next week it closed...still drive by it, seeing the decaying park...

I sure remember this place...and this ride
Rode this several times back in da day! A decent ride.
It's like the camera thought to itself:
"This coaster isn't dramatic enough...at points of high forces I'll make it look like Lightening!"
Thanks for posting, Robb. I was wondering if someone had Screechin' Eagle POV's.
2:09 Oh nostalgia! how it turns average experiences into excellent ones. Honestly it's sad that this park is gone. It had better prices than King's Island. In the end, we all lose when there isn't any competition.
It just had less stuff than King's Island, giving it lower prices. They're not necessarily better prices, just cheaper.

Yeah, it was demolished a few months ago. I live about a mile away from LeSourdsville.

fuckin shit dudee i road this one for sure but forgot you remember me the good ideas thanks, man!
Also, Fantasy Farm. I never went there but I could smell it.
The layout/ trajectory looks very similar to the recently closed Cannonball Run at Waterville, AL.
Great old coaster! First one I ever rode during my 6th grade trip. Great design that had lots of air. Sad it's gone now.
10/10 POV would recommend

Read this, felt like I wrote it. Those were the days.
Wow. Thoose old cameras do not hold up well. I'm guessing it was tape not digital.

The ski lift ride was called "Sky Ride." It closed down after a woman fell out...
Wow... that looked downright painful. Was the ride really that rough?
It was brutal
Awesome vid!! Was it tough going down the slide holding the camera???
When did the "weeeeeeeeeeee"-ing come in?

Long live the screeching eagle, forever more!
@themeparkreviewTPR And how long ago was that, tell me more?

The demolished it cuz trespassers could hurt themselves (bogus I know)
The guy that owns this place should bring it back or tear it down.

Amaricana was a lot better than kings island lol and the beast started here
Weeeeeee!
Too short of a ride.

It would have been so nice if you could have graced us with your skill and precision of filming coaster rides, before it was too late.
Terrible footage. Should not have been posted.
