For those of you wondering no the R160s are not back on the (N) Train not the (Q) or (W) Trains. This video was recorded back on February 18 2021 about 2 years ago when the R160s hadn’t all officially been transferred to Jamaica Yard, therefore some were still at Coney Island Yard and hence that’s why this video exists.
Not only that the Crosstown line (G) needed R160 for CBTC and if the G is shutting down this summer. There is a possible chance That The R160 will Go Back to Broadway lines (N W Q) But I think we will go to Queens Boulevard lines (E F M R)
I kinda find that unlikely tbh, considering how the capacity on the R211’s is shockingly lower than that of the R160’s. If anything the N, Q and W will likely receive the R211’s alongside the A, B, C and D. Queens Boulevard is doing fine with the R160’s and therefore doesn’t need any R211’s. The G is also doing fine with R160’s but should it be reassigned to Coney Island Yard (which might be unlikely but whatever), the G could potentially use R211’s.
Very unlikely. I’ve said this many times to people who think the (N), (Q), & (W) Trains will get R160s &/or R211s soon. The (N), (Q), & (W) will likely get the R68/As from the (B) & (D) Trains as 8 Av & 6 Av are expected to get CBTC before Broadway and only the NTTs(excluding the R179s) are CBTC equipped and the R179s are likely gonna be CBTC equipped in the near future so as much as I would love to see NTTs back on the (N), (Q), & (W) Trains once the R211s fully roll in, it’s likely not gonna be the reality.
Very unlikely, sadly. Broadway is not part of any Capital Plan to receive CBTC, so CI Yard getting 211s for use is unlikely. But, when The B/D gets its 211s for 6th Ave use, the N/Q can use those 211s on the weekends if the yard dispatcher wants to for weekend service. 😊
