I really don't think that Mandalorian is suited to be a feature film. The strength of the series was it's ability to tell one off adventures and possibly flesh out the starwars Universe in the edges. Trapping it in a film narritive lessens what makes it special.

I always thought they needed to do something to expand the audience to prime people for Dave's movie. They either had to license out the Mandoverse shows to other services or make season 4 a movie. So we now know what route they're going to take and I'm ok with it.
This is where, despite how places like Marvel feel, let the director make his movie, Favs directed the first MCU film which was amazing. He directed vfxs comedies like Elf and the underrated Zathura. His background goes back to the 90s writing Swingers. He made the best Disney remake The Jungle Book. I think with a great writer he will craft a story that is standalone, can tie into all the other stuff, but is a film first and foremost with its own story. I also think he has enough trust with Lucasfilm that is what he will do.
Do they start the maturation of grogu for this movie? My two things I think the movie needs is Grogu talking and pedro without a helmet. Grogu can survive time jump in cannon by having them end up different galaxy.
I REALLY hope that The Mandalorian season 1 and 2's wonderful composer Ludwig Göransson will compose the The Mandalorian and Grogu movie's score!!!🤞🤞 I think there's a better chance of that happening as a movie rather than for another (4th) TV season of The Mandalorian (purely as he's in such demand as a film composer), and while Joseph Shirley did a relly nice job as composer of season 3, even while using season 1 and 2's musical themes extensively he simply isn't Ludwig Göransson (nor are any of us other composers).
I really excited about this it's overdue for a Star Wars Movie and this is the right one to kick of the post Skywalker Saga movies with Mandalorian and Grogu Movie but I still want the Dave Filoni Movie to happen because Grand Admiral Thrawn who yes was Great to see finally in live action he Needs to be the Villain in A live Action Movie
Grogu's journey should have ended after season 2 it was a perfect ending to his story. But he sells a lot of merchandise and it is Disney so no surprise

I they are planning to treat this as a 2 or 3-part saga of movies, I would love to get re-acquainted with Mando & Grogu, and also some of the side characters, with some new threat, while sewing the seeds for the larger, looming threat of the return of the Empire and Thrawn. Kind of like how the MCU did with Thanos, where he only ever appeared in Cameos until Infinity War. So that when we finally do get to the larger Mandoverse team-up, we are already set-up plot-wise, new audiences have been acquainted with these characters and we are now ready to get into an "Heir to the Empire" kind of situation, where we will need everyone's help to bring down this threat.

The Mando and Grogu movie is Jon Favbro. Dave Filoli is doing the Mandoverse. Jon is starting the Star Wars movie slate again with plans of a Mando season 4 later down the line. The Mandoverse movie that Dave is doing will be the climax of the heir to the empire storyline all the Mandoverse shows are building up to.

Honestly i think the problem with this movie is Grogu. That storyline should have ended in season 2. In season 3 he had no purpose except to be "cute" and he distracted from the story. Just my 2 cents.
One of the complaints that was said about The Marvels was that the audience had been conditioned to view both Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau as television characters and not movie characters, so why see them in a movie theater when you can see them on Disney+? I echo John's last phrase on Season 1-2 vs Season 3. I'm PRAYING that they won't do a "kids" movie. Please, don't make the same mistake you did with Return of the Jedi (Ewoks), Phantom Menace (Gungans) and (especially) the Jack and Lizzo episode! Star Wars is ALWAYS better when it explores darkness and a more "adult" content. And kids enjoy it anyway!

I know who doesn’t watch the show and might watch this… Also I watched Ashoka without all the cartoons and still enjoyed it. I watched all of the Mandalorian seasons
TBH people seem to expect everything for practically free these days when it comes to entertainment. People want 1 streaming service to have everything from every studio for $10 a month. That being said, I do think this movie would do pretty well in the box office, seeing Grogu on the big screen will be big, no pun intended.
I know it’s not the popular opinion, but I am looking forward to that Rey movie. I just watched all the Star Wars films with my daughter, and she was over the moon when I told her that they’re making that film. I cannot wait to take her to the theater to see it, and I think everyone who’s making a fuss about it need to step back and remember that there is a new generation of kids who are growing up with Rey and love her. Looking forward to the Mando film too, but I still say that a great film starring Rey would be the best way to heal the franchise. Obviously, a terrible movie would have the opposite effect, but no risk, no reward.
Lucasfilm already knows barely anyone wants a Rey movie, so they really must have loved the pitch to go through with the movie. I have no expectations but like Wonka, I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm curious how many out there are like me and have little to no interest in a Mando movie. I don't even really care if they continue the show, I'm over it. In fact, I don't want to see anything developed that isn't in a new time period. We know what happened in the past. I want to see what's next. Obi Wan WAS a movie at first but changed to be a series. They even credited the writers of the original movie script in it. Hossein Amini and Stuart Beattie are credited for episodes 1-3 and the finale.

No, I’m over it. Star Wars needs a hard reset button. Either set it way in the future, or way in the past and give us fresh new characters to be excited about.
As much as this idea is appealing, the sad financial truth is that normies will totally ignore and likely Star Wars fans (what’s left of them) may hate it. Thus net-neutral approach to avoid destroying the brand/franchise further should be considered. I think a long pause may be needed more to reset. Also if the Mando-Grogu disappoints box office$$ then all other movies are shelved/cancelled. I doubt they would be filming/preproduction during post-production of the Mando-Grogu movie.
The setting of the story probably would make little difference as long as Disney is still holding the reigns of creative control. They will be guided by their political ideology and social justice activism no matter what, pushing "the message" at the expense of a well-crafted plot and appealing characters.
Disney do not need to be making any Star Wars movies - that ship has long sailed. Mandalorian or anything else are well served on streaming. If Disney want to put any of this content out in cinemas for a couple of weeks fine but there is no reason to state they are making movies. Disney do not make movies they only make big screen TV.
Disney, especially with Star Wars have to make movies if they want to achieve any form of financial success. Star Wars is arguably the biggest film franchise in history and is a huge event that's meant to be seen on the big screen. Most of the shows on Disney+ do not make money these days and they don't get nearly as much viewership as a film would in theaters.

Dinn-Grogu is a great example of a slow build and long term character development. He can live to 700-900 years old and he’s only 100! He’s been so fun and cute but relax they’re working up to him getting a lil helmet and being a BEAST! aka remember him vs the storm troopers?? Force choking!
Honestly at this point we need to let the franchise sit untouched for around 10 years, maybe more. Finish everything that already is well into production, then let it all rest. THEN, soft-reboot TNG style. Set a new movie or episodic TV series in 300ABY that complies with both the EU and Canon continuities without explicitly mentioning or referencing anything from either of them. Same universe, same look-and-feel (except improved with new technology on and off screen), but new characters and stories.
Lucasfilm is acting like it's lost in a carnival funhouse. They already fell off with season 3. But they can't get a handle on anything else so they're leaning on something that worked a few years ago assuming that will land the plane. Yes, Mandalorian bridged the gap in the fandom for a second. You know what will blow it up again? A failed Mandalorian movie. It's a series. Not a feature film. I have a bad feeling about this.
Nah bringing back Favreau to direct is a dumb choice. Favreau is the bane of creativity. I think this movie might be a huge bomb, but thankfully it might finally end the Favreau and filoni reign on Disney star wars. They've been dropping nothing but absolute mid forever. Its the reason people still talk about Alien, E.T. or the Terminator movies. They were big studio films but driven by auteurs. Favreau and Filoni haven't proven themselves anywhere. Filoni is a disaster of a director, who will make another movie, that the 'family can watch'. The one character in Star wars thats supposed to be in a Kurosawa western setting, is a family friendly happy go lucky bumbling but endearing Dad. No wonder Din's the worst character in his own show, the writers spend a total of 5 minutes writing him before filming every season. "Just give him more Dad stuff to do, and bring Pedro to act out a few grunts and sighs when Din finally opens his mouth in ep.3". Who knows they might have actually asked Pedro to NOT act with his voice, in order to maintain the charade that Din is a "mysterious" bounty hunter. Guess what you've just made your protagonist boring lol. And the Child's hype died out after the pandemic, that doll doesn't sell anymore. The entire tone of this movie is going to be goofy gritty, and the gritty part only comes from the supposed western setting. Aren't these parts supposed to be the Badlands of this universe? Are we ever getting that? I implore everyone to see Terrence Mallicks debut film of the same name, someone with actual filmmaking talent. The new star wars seems to be as wide as a galaxy and as shallow as a teacup.

The real test was helming Iron Man 2 and 3, and he clearly failed there, both movies have aged badly. I can bet this Mando movie won't suck, but it'll just be more of the same mediocre stuff Disney star wars has been putting out, diluting their brand further.

Personally, I hope they make everything into a feature film with a 300 plus million budget and 100 to 150 million for advertising. I could care less who they have direct, who the cast is, or who's brainchild it is. At the end of the day, nothing has changed, leardship and direction has not changed, and the writing or ideas haven't changed. So let the dog run loose, let's get a movie for all of it, and let's see how it all pans out. If it looks good I'll go see it with the kids, if not, if reviews are trash, I won't.
I only want a Mando and Grogu movie. I don't want a "Mando-verse" movie. Ashoka and Boba Fett were boring and monotone characters (especially Ashoka). (Though Boba Fett worked as an occasional side character with Mando but not as a lead.) Grogu lives and episodes 7-9 are not canon.

This should be a streaming movie. Nobody is going to go see this in theaters. Casual movie watchers who might go see a new Star Wars movie but don't watch The Mandalorian aren't going to go see it. "Baby Yoda" isn't a big enough draw, Pedro Pascal is more popular than ever, but his voice isn't a big enough draw. The negative Star Wars fans that dislike/hate everything Disney has made aren't going to go see it in theaters. And I'm sure I'm not the only fan who doesn't want to spend movie theater prices on top of the monthly Disney+ subscription price, unless Disney+ is going to offer free or discounted tickets for subscribers. Season 4 is still in development, so why is this movie happening? They better make it for a miniscule budget, because otherwise it's guaranteed to bomb.

I think this is likely Mando S4 condensed because the writers strike pushed it back. Without having seen it I think I'd have preferred it as a series.
It might also have to do with them wanting Pedro Pascal on set. He was just a voice actor in season 3. Maybe a movie works better with his schedule.
Favreau had the scrips for S4 done or mostly done before the strike because he was prepping for it.

i dont understand the Ashoka hate. It's not a perfect season but it has some of the best star wars content we've gotten in a LONG LONG time

I echo John's last phrase on Season 1-2 vs Season 3. I'm PRAYING that they won't do a "kids" movie. Please, don't make the same mistake you did with Return of the Jedi (Ewoks), Phantom Menace (Gungans) and (especially) the Jack and Lizzo episode! Star Wars is ALWAYS better when it explores darkness and a more "adult" content. And kids enjoy it anyway!

Yes Vader going Nooooo is bad, especially when it never used to be there and has just been copied and pasted over from ROTS where it was already ridiculed as it sounded awful. The scene was perfect how it was originally done. I don’t hate all of the additions Lucas made but this was a bad one.

TBH people seem to expect everything for practically free these days when it comes to entertainment. People want 1 streaming service to have everything from every studio for $10 a month. That being said, I do think this movie would do pretty well in the box office, seeing Grogu on the big screen will be big, no pun intended.

I know it’s not the popular opinion, but I am looking forward to that Rey movie. I just watched all the Star Wars films with my daughter, and she was over the moon when I told her that they’re making that film. I cannot wait to take her to the theater to see it, and I think everyone who’s making a fuss about it need to step back and remember that there is a new generation of kids who are growing up with Rey and love her. Looking forward to the Mando film too, but I still say that a great film starring Rey would be the best way to heal the franchise. Obviously, a terrible movie would have the opposite effect, but no risk, no reward.
Lucasfilm already knows barely anyone wants a Rey movie, so they really must have loved the pitch to go through with the movie. I have no expectations but like Wonka, I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm curious how many out there are like me and have little to no interest in a Mando movie. I don't even really care if they continue the show, I'm over it. In fact, I don't want to see anything developed that isn't in a new time period. We know what happened in the past. I want to see what's next. Or take us to another galaxy far far away with all new characters and heroes. Idk, I've just lost interest in the PT, OT, and ST time periods. I want new stuff.
They did the special effects and practical effects certain ways to pay homage to the old Star wars that's why Grogu and most of the other animals are puppet looking

As much as I love Mando and Grogu, I don't know how I feel about this. Season 3 was so bad, I pretend it never existed. My trust and interest in Star Wars is at the same level before The Mandalorian, which is to say it's non-existent.
There’s potential there. I think what makes me most optimistic is john. Not so much the mando ip because they clearly showed they cared more about toy sales than story with Luke returning grogu so quickly. Made no sense. I never was against Luke giving him back but just it was just such a knee jerk reaction. I hope this is really good.

Obi Wan WAS a movie at first but changed to be a series. They even credited the writers of the original movie script in it. Hossein Amini and Stuart Beattie are credited for episodes 1-3 and the finale.

No, I’m over it. Star Wars needs a hard reset button. Either set it way in the future, or way in the past and give us fresh new characters to be excited about.
As much as this idea is appealing, the sad financial truth is that normies will totally ignore and likely Star Wars fans (what’s left of them) may hate it. Thus net-neutral approach to avoid destroying the brand/franchise further should be considered. I think a long pause may be needed more to reset.
Also if the Mando-Grogu disappoints box office$$ then all other movies are shelved/cancelled. I doubt they would be filming/preproduction during post-production of the Mando-Grogu movie.
The setting of the story probably would make little difference as long as Disney is still holding the reigns of creative control. They will be guided by their political ideology and social justice activism no matter what, pushing "the message" at the expense of a well-crafted plot and appealing characters.
Keep TV characters in TV. Features should be able to stand on their own.

Disney do not need to be making any Star Wars movies - that ship has long sailed. Mandalorian or anything else are well served on streaming. If Disney want to put any of this content out in cinemas for a couple of weeks fine but there is no reason to state they are making movies. Disney do not make movies they only make big screen TV.
Disney, especially with Star Wars have to make movies if they want to achieve any form of financial success. Star Wars is arguably the biggest film franchise in history and is a huge event that's meant to be seen on the big screen. Most of the shows on Disney+ do not make money these days and they don't get nearly as much viewership as a film would in theaters.

Honestly at this point we need to let the franchise sit untouched for around 10 years, maybe more. Finish everything that already is well into production, then let it all rest. THEN, soft-reboot TNG style. Set a new movie or episodic TV series in 300ABY that complies with both the EU and Canon continuities without explicitly mentioning or referencing anything from either of them. Same universe, same look-and-feel (except improved with new technology on and off screen), but new characters and stories.
I'm glad it's Jon Favreau directing. Dave Filoni needs to stay away from any live-action movies. He works best in cartoons, just stay there.

Lucasfilm is acting like it's lost in a carnival funhouse. They already fell off with season 3. But they can't get a handle on anything else so they're leaning on something that worked a few years ago assuming that will land the plane. Yes, Mandalorian bridged the gap in the fandom for a second. You know what will blow it up again? A failed Mandalorian movie. It's a series. Not a feature film. I have a bad feeling about this.

Nah bringing back Favreau to direct is a dumb choice. Favreau is the bane of creativity. I think this movie might be a huge bomb, but thankfully it might finally end the Favreau and filoni reign on Disney star wars. They've been dropping nothing but absolute mid forever. Absolutely blows my mind that people still trust them to make more TV shows and have even given them a movie. Especially when there are creators out there who completely wipe the floor with these two. God i hope this movie comes out when Dune Messiah releases. Dune isnt even box office proven yet, but i know the carnage the third Dune movie will do on this film, will finally let Disney Star Wars know that creator driven movies with auteurs at helm still work. Its the reason people still talk about Alien, E.T. or the Terminator movies. They were big studio films but driven by auteurs. Favreau and Filoni haven't proven themselves anywhere. Filoni is a disaster of a director, who will make another movie, that the 'family can watch'. The one character in Star wars thats supposed to be in a Kurosawa western setting, is a family friendly happy go lucky bumbling but endearing Dad. No wonder Din's the worst character in his own show, the writers spend a total of 5 minutes writing him before filming every season. "Just give him more Dad stuff to do, and bring Pedro to act out a few grunts and sighs when Din finally opens his mouth in ep.3". Who knows they might have actually asked Pedro to NOT act with his voice, in order to maintain the charade that Din is a "mysterious" bounty hunter. Guess what you've just made your protagonist boring lol. And the Child's hype died out after the pandemic, that doll doesn't sell anymore. The entire tone of this movie is going to be goofy gritty, and the gritty part only comes from the supposed western setting. Aren't these parts supposed to be the Badlands of this universe? Are we ever getting that? I implore everyone to see Terrence Mallicks debut film of the same name, someone with actual filmmaking talent. The new star wars seems to be as wide as a galaxy and as shallow as a teacup.
@cyberpup2246 it didn't suck, but Favreau lost all directorial credibility since then. And he was helming a character with decades of comic book history to pick and choose from. The real test was helming Iron Man 2 and 3, and he clearly failed there, both movies have aged badly. I can bet this Mando movie won't suck, but it'll just be more of the same mediocre stuff Disney star wars has been putting out, diluting their brand further.
Here me out this is what need to do, Grogu at the end of the movie ends up evolving like a Pokemon after the big battle then he says the way this is . set up for season 4 .
Personally, I hope they make everything into a feature film with a 300 plus million budget and 100 to 150 million for advertising.
I could care less who they have direct, who the cast is, or who's brainchild it is. At the end of the day, nothing has changed, leardship and direction has not changed, and the writing or ideas haven't changed.
So let the dog run loose, let's get a movie for all of it, and let's see how it all pans out. If it looks good I'll go see it with the kids, if not, if reviews are trash, I won't.

I only want a Mando and Grogu movie. I don't want a "Mando-verse" movie. Ashoka and Boba Fett were boring and monotone characters (especially Ashoka). (Though Boba Fett worked as an occasional side character with Mando but not as a lead.) Grogu lives and episodes 7-9 are not canon.

This should be a streaming movie. Nobody is going to go see this in theaters. Casual movie watchers who might go see a new Star Wars movie but don't watch The Mandalorian aren't going to go see it. "Baby Yoda" isn't a big enough draw, Pedro Pascal is more popular than ever, but his voice isn't a big enough draw. The negative Star Wars fans that dislike/hate everything Disney has made aren't going to go see it in theaters. And I'm sure I'm not the only fan who doesn't want to spend movie theater prices on top of the monthly Disney+ subscription price, unless Disney+ is going to offer free or discounted tickets for subscribers. Season 4 is still in development, so why is this movie happening? They better make it for a miniscule budget, because otherwise it's guaranteed to bomb.

I think you're wrong. This movie will make a lot of money. I am the "fan that hates (most) Disney Star Wars." I got excited when I saw this news. I got home from with and told my kids and they got excited and started taking about it the rest of the night. If it doesn't make a billion dollars I'll be shocked.
