My favorite shoe right now. Love it. Fixed all the issues of the 6. Heel softer, toe box wider, shoe lighter, rubber doesn't collect stones! Love the ride of the 8 too. This is a great shoe!
I love that this version seems like a trainer version of the Takumi Sen. The old Adios' for me were a bit narrow and were rather plank like. Seems like this is more dynamic with those race car curves.
I'm definitely getting an Adios 8 for me for daily training. The new strategies of designing over-cushioned everyday shoes with 40mm+ stack causes instabilities in the gate of non-elite runners, which long-term causes, Plantar, Achillis and Anterior Tibialis issues.
Pleased to hear the forefoot is a bit more generous. The Adios Pro 3 fits me like a dream so once I’ve made a bit more room in the closet, this is a tempting addition.
I finally retired the Takumi Sen 9 at 400km. ‘First run in the rain with the Adios 8. I really like the shoe - It feel like a better tuned adizero Pro (Remember that shoe, Edd?!?). The new nylon torsion system may not be equal to rods, but the system keeps the runner honest in terms of form. It’s definitely a 5-8k shoe for me. This shoe probably feels “slappy” the moment form gets sloppy. Wider yet shorter toebox is better to the aPro. The lack of any plate means no jolts through the Achilles. It feels a lot like a max cushion version of the Takumi Sen 6/7. The setup is near identical. The TS10 released this week in the U.S. - Finally. But I’ll have fun in the adios 8 before picking up my next “super shoe”. ✌🏽💙👟
Of the Adios 8, Boston 12, Takumi Sen 9 trio I got recently am so far finding the Adios 8 most to my liking. So far done a HM training run in it plus some 400m intervals which split with the Sen 9 and the Adios 8 went just as well. Interesting about the weights as my 7 and 8 in a UK 13.5 are near identical with (rarely these days) both my 8s coming in at 273g versus 274/278 for the 7. The 6 I only had in a "too small for me" UK 12.5 but that was 297g so the effective weight drop for me 6 to 8 is marked. Agree got to like a low to the ground feeling and although the Lightstrike 2 is softer it is certainly still a "responsive" ride but that slightly softer feeling over the 6/7 I certainly prefer.
@@EDDBUD every time put the Adios 8 on I wanted to go faster than perhaps intended so not done much heel striking yet :) The relative softness of the new Lightstrke 2 foam has been far more noticeable in the Boston 12. If only the upper wasn't so big for me.
I've been using the Adios 6 as a daily, workout shoe and for Parkrun. It can do the lot! Although I do prefer something a little more cushioned on the longer runs. Off down the market to do a killing on this sun tan lotion.
Ran with the vaporfly next2 yesterday and adios 8 today for the first time. I must say that the adios is way comfortable and stable. On landing the adios is closer to the ground but has more midsole up front on the toe off phase. The next2 tapers aggressively from the ball of the foot to the toes(rocker geometry). For that, I don’t mind the adios’ stack height.
Great review… though I disagree about the similarities between the A8 and TS9. Sure they are both lower stack shoes but one is a modern racing flat and one is an outright super shoe, very different shoes. Though I agree, depending on the runner, there is a lot of use case overlap. I just published a video comparing the A8 and TS9 directly, where I really get into the differences. I love your term, “a more engaging shoe”; I fully agree!
@@EDDBUD likely… but from a technology and design standpoint…it is. It’s not a racing flat, through it can feel that direct. I’m curious what the TS10 will be. We should start seeing rumors of it soon, especially if we are going to see a late fall release again. That may settle this once and or all.
I'm in camp that TS 8/9 is a supershoe regardless of stack/cushion. If you classify supershoes as only marathon racing shoes, it isn't. It's a carbon plated (or energy rodded?) racing flat for 5K to 1/2 marathon, because of the lighter weight due to less LS midsole than Pro 3. It's definitely subjective. 👍
Edd! Thank you for your review of the Adios 8. My last Adios was the 5. IMHO, it was a great shoe which I used for track work to a marathon. They were considered to be marathon shoes, weren't they?!?! Kudos to Adidas to bring us a lower stack more traditional flat,! Not sure about the softness, but definitely worth a try!
I like the stability of this shoe, it is very firm and close to the ground and not laterally flexible. It is very light. However, it is very hard on the calves. If you are not strong, you need to do all the work with this shoe. Definitely not beginner friendly. For context, I run about 30-40km weekly and do a 5k in about 18.30
Thanks for keeping us heavier folk in mind again! You've probably saved me a mistake there. Can't stand it when a shoe bottoms out, so the risk isn't worth it.
Awesome initial review Edd. 👍 It seems like Adidas has been re working the Lightstrike formulation. If its coming close to the feel of Lightstrike Pro, maybe version 2 is on the way. Really glad this hit the mark for you, I shall consider it for my speed sessions in future. 🤓
Adios is a great heritage shoe,Kimetto set the marathon wr in the Adios 2,with that type of legacy,Adidas will always produce shoes from this line up. But don't you feel the Adios 8 and Takumi 8/9 can essentially accomplish the same thing ?... was a huge fan of the 3,love the performance at the time and the retro look, owned 3 pairs(one all black to wear casually)
Excellent and detailed analysis as always.👍This is arriving today and will give it a go. As an older runner, I appreciate shoe companies still offering old shoe look, with updated tech. I recently purchased the Addidas Boston 12, my first Boston. I love the fit and ride, but I hate the laces and not a fan of the tongue. I think it's a tad too thin and while it's guesseted, it's attached too far down in the shoe to be useful and prevent bunching. Should be higher up. I will swap out the laces. I still love Puma, but will rotate in my addidas.
Glad to see the back to the root of the Adios series. Seems like gonna check it once available here. I can foresee I will be enjoying this shoes: No more base midfoot blister maker: high arc support; never works for any running shoe; those who really need will almost definitely need to get custom sizing in order to be useful also back to wider cutting and true to size, no more racing fit cutting; which also nonsense as making requires to upsize. It's a lazy way to make a good lockdown design. I wonder how the insole shape is? I hope it's in normal shape unlike the Adios 5 had a strange rounded banana shape insole.
I have the Adios 6. It almost forces you to run fast. It's a little bit hard to explain why. That could be bad or good. I personally have no problem with shoes built for a certain job. I'm not sure the Adios 8 is the same. But I would personally only use it for runs where you want to do some kind of faster run.
Now those Copa Mundial football boots are durable! Quality, classic and good looking. I have a pair too and they are still going strong. Good Adios 8 review Edd. Adidas seems to have got everything covered in this release. But for value, I think Puma might have them covered these days.

Mr Edd Bud, did you ever run in the Adios boost v1? I personally found it to be the greatest “all in wonder” shoe I have ever used. It was great fast, short, long like marathon to 100k both road and trail and I could get like 800 miles out of a pair. I am eager to try this new model out to see if it has returned to the “all in wonder” status. Oh and I am a fan of slow-mo Edd Bud running footage for sure! 💪

Hi there, I usually prefer low drop shoes, not a heel striker here, I thinking which one of this is better for training and speed: Adios 8, Takumi 9 or Liberate 2. What are your opinions, for 60 kg runner?
35mm?! That's a lot! How come you describe it as a minimal cushion shoe? Does it feel lower stack than it is? Also, how does this compare to the Liberate Nitro 2?
Hi Ed, Does the adios 8 has the same upper as the adios 7? I just bought my adios 7 and already has a 3 inches tear on the medial and lateral side just near the toes, it appeared after logging 58KM only! I am starting to like the shoes but failed to deliver on the upper's durability department.
@@EDDBUD and Sen 9 too having tried both last night. Can't say the Sen 9 is "unstable" but whilst going off road on the Adios 8 was "fun" much less so with the Sen 9. Even on the road feel a bit of wobble with the Sen 9 although gets better going harder which I guess is the point of it. Sen 9 isn't one for a "plod" IMHO.
@@EDDBUD thanx for the reply I already have a pair of ultra boost dna I wanted to upgrade my shoe so I was considering which one to buy because the adios and ultra boost are on discount and I was confused which to buy, so according to you the adios are more comfortable then the ultra boost right? Actually thought it worked very well on gravel for me. Part road, part firm trail/gravel is where I will likely be using mine and indeed where have often done so with previous versions.
Hi Edd. I use the Adios 6 as my daily, do anything (5k -30k) trainer. I get 1,000k out of a pair. I’m not very heavy (61kg). Can the 8 replicate this or is it a faster, less hardy option.

Thanks Edd. Comparative runner(Adidas) for heavier runner?
Maybe the solar boost perhaps? Sad they don’t make a lighter boost model these days. ( Adios 4 was same weight as Adios 8 )
That wider toebox looks exciting. As a flat footer, ive been shying away from the Adios line.
It’s closer to the Adios pro 3 in fit
I'm glad they removed the adidas logo from the medial side of the foot. It always looked pretty awkward.
Sounds a bit like the Hyperion Tempo?
Bit softer than the tempo. Man I reviewed that one so long ago. Still in the brooks lineup!
@@EDDBUD Yes. They just add new color every 3 month.
No IMHO. FOD Runner may disagree but the Adios 8 is more to my liking. Tempo is wider though so you may prefer that.
How does it work as a casual shoe, Is it in the vein of the SL20 ? I thought the adios 6 could, but it doesn't enjoy moving laterally at all
It’s almost a more forcing campus shoe with better grip. Will the “football” casuals pick up on it? Maybe!
Edd 'two foot' Bud 🟥⚽
I was certainly not half hearted in the tackle. These days more a midfield general.
I still like high stack shoes... :-/ ... (I think the adios 8 is the adidias streakfly version)
Yes maybe the streakfly of the Adios models.
Does this shoe still make a loud slap on the ground as the Adios 6 ?
It’s not as loud no
Is that similar with Takumisen9 functionally?
Firmer ride. Not as cushioned as the sen.
Classic
Hi Ed,
Does the adios 8 has the same upper as the adios 7? I just bought my adios 7 and already has a 3 inches tear on the medial and lateral side just near the toes, it appeared after logging 58KM only! I am starting to like the shoes but failed to deliver on the upper's durability department.
No it’s a different upper
@@EDDBUD do you think it is more durable than the 7s? BTW, how's you adios 7? How many miles/kms you already logged in to them?
Is there any compelling reason to have both the takumi 8/9 and adios 8 in the quiver? Thanks Edd
Don’t think you need both in my opinion.
Edd, what do you attribute the weight reduction from 7?
The upper is lighter. Materials are less in complexity. Maybe that lightstrike 2 is a bit lighter also
Edd, which is the most stable, the Adios 8 or Takumi 8/9?
This one is more stable than the sen 8. No arch cutaway.
So glad the shoe is no longer a gravel sucker
No gravel. But that’s more down to the destruction of the torsion plate! Road only 👍🏼
if I'm overweight, and I want to run 10km 4 day/week. Should i choose boston 12 or adios 8? Thanks for your answer
Boston 12 will be a better shoe for you 👍🏼👊
Which is better the ultra boost or the adios
Very different shoes underfoot. The boost is a firmer cushion. These are very low stack compared.
@@EDDBUD thanx for the reply
I already have a pair of ultra boost dna
I wanted to upgrade my shoe so I was considering which one to buy because the adios and ultra boost are on discount and I was confused which to buy, so according to you the adios are more comfortable then the ultra boost right?
(For casual use )
Copa Mundial supremacy 💪
A classic shoe!
22 deg C you call hot? Here where I am temperature is 28 deg at night
Listen to the video. In the uk that is in the upper area of our temps. It was 30c here yesterday at 5pm so we are baking now.
How suitable for a long run... Slow... I am considering it because it's half on tarmac and half on gravel so high stack is not stable enough..
For gravel? Avoid this due to the torsion plate.
It’s certainly softer. It remains to be seen if it’s as durable.
Why are they so mean with using full lightstrike pro☠️as if they didn't have enough money
Does the shoe still pop when the right strike is achieved?
Yes maybe even more due to the 3 prong plate
is this good for race day or marathon?
10k maybe. Lacking in cushion for most folks for the half.
Guys, I’ve had nike flyknit lunarepic 2 for the longest time, love it, but want to get new shoes, can anyone suggest something similar? I think they discontinued lunarepics
Maybe the Adios 8 or streakfly? Not too up on the lunarepic 2.
Can I gor for marathon 10 kilometer with adios 8?
Personally for most it’s a 10k to half shoe
Only 360p Edd, what's happening 🤷🏿♀️
Give it time. UA-cam takes ages to process 4k these days
Smackaroonies = earth credits
👍🏼👊
The only issue i have with it is that it really slaps the ground. When i use it in park, people hear me coming😂
Quite loud this one!
Slapper
These pair are going somewhere
Yes it’s a good flatter model
Is the adios 8 less stabile than the previous version?
Still very stable. A little more forgiving than the last one.
@@EDDBUD thanks a lot
No, it's not "the four, the five, the six, the seven". It's "the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift".
The baffled king….
Hell yeah
🥇👍🏼
Nice 🎉
Thanks for tuning in 👍🏼
Farewell seuded toe box... perhaps we'll meet again someday
It’s bound to return in a few years!
I'd give anything to have 30c 😢
What’s your midday to 5pm temps at the mo Joe?
@@EDDBUD roughly 13c to 16c
Adidas plans to go back into the Russian market. If they do I'll be looking at other brands.
Not seen anything around that. I can’t see that it’s a particularly lucrative area for them right now.
Sweet those mondials :)
Soft as kittens now. The leather is really decent.
this one and Boston 12, which one is better for daily running???
Don’t own the Boston 12. I like this one but it’s more a speed shoe.
