Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal, Moametal , and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" , with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide in April 2016.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017.
BABYMETAL was formed in 2010. In March 2014, they took the stage at Nippon Budokan for a 2-day gig, making them the youngest female act to perform there. Their 1st studio album BABYMETAL instantly made it to the US Billboard charts. They embarked on their first world tour, performing on the main stage at UK’s prodigious festival Sonisphere Festival 2014 in front of 65,000 festival goers and supporting Lady Gaga - The Artpop Ball 2014 Tour.
In April 2016, BABYMETAL had a simultaneous global release for their 2nd album METAL RESISTANCE. They became the highest-charting Japanese band ever on UK’s Official Albums Chart, landing at No. 15th. They also reached the 39th spot on its debut on the U.S. Billboard, becoming the first album by a Japanese artist to break into the chart’s top 40 in more than 53 years. On April 2nd, BABYMETAL performed at the prestigious Wembley Arena in the UK, becoming the first Japanese artist to ever headline at the venue. They completed their world tour in September at the Tokyo Dome for a consecutive 2 days with over 110,000 people to witness the massive tour final. They have also performed as special guests in various international locations for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES, and KORN.
In 2019, BABYMETAL flew to the UK to perform at Glastonbury Festival. On October 11th, BABYMETAL had their worldwide release of their 3rd album METAL GALAXY and on that same day, they had their first U.S. headlining arena show at The Forum in LA.
“METAL GALAXY” ranked No.13 on the US Billboard Top 200 and ranked No.1 on the Top Rock Albums Chart for the first time ever as an Asian artist. In the UK Official Charts, the album consecutively ranked in the Official Albums Chart Top 20 from their previous album and ranked No.1 on the Rock & Metal Albums Chart for the first time in history as a Japanese artist.
After finishing their longest world tour of their history, they performed at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in January 2020 for consecutive 2 days as their extra show of their world tour in Japan, and restaged the world of their 3rd album “METAL GALAXY”.
In commemoration of their 10th anniversary, they released their first Greatest Hits album
10 BABYMETAL YEARS in December. During January to April 2021, BABYMETAL performed 10 headline shows at the prestigious Nippon Budokan. On September 29th they released their LIVE ALBUM 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN as their final live film. Since the end of 2022 babymetal will continue as "The Other One"!

as insane as this sounds it kind of explains how they can be so precise with their choreography. almost robotic. keeping time without it might be near impossible given how loud the music and fans can get.

That explains the occasional death stare 😄
I'm guessing that sound is so it won't get drown out by the loud music?

I totally get why this kind of thing is necessary (to keep brain farts from happening, to keep in sync, etc.) but it would drive me nucking futs. In college I played drums/sang lead vocals in a RUSH tribute band. Because our keyboardist was the only classically trained musician and didn't want to be embarrassed, she wrote the lyrics on paper and put the paper in vinyl sleeves. I would put these lyrics on a tom drum (it was a 58 piece drum set). By the end of a concert the floor behind me would be littered with the lyrics as I didn't have time to store them properly.

Jeez what a cacophony. The only time I’ve ever listened to BM and had to turn them down. Imagine having that banging away in your ears for the whole show. I heard a similar thing where it was isolated from Su’s earpieces a few years back and the cowbell was gone. It was replaced with much-less intrusive count-in bleeps and I think there was a metronome click. I notice in Doki Doki that the beat is slightly out by a fraction. It’s interesting to hear Su adjusting her tuning on occasion. You can’t normally hear that over the band. Speaking of tuning, I would have expected a tone at the same pitch as the first note in the songs where Su has to just come up with the correct pitch without a cue from the music.

I question the autheticity of this. There have been a few releases of tracks like this, but i'm 50/50 on whether this is real, or if it's just a fan-made version. The idea that someone recorded this at that show and then just sat on it, recorded but unpublished since 2017 seems kinda sus.

Interesting mix during Road of Resistance! They cut almost all the drum volume. I love this kind of stuff!!
Why is there Sis Anger if it's Su's in-ear?
For the other songs the in-ear mix seems strange though... I listened to some of theirs in the past and there were more vocal cues and adjustments in the sound mix. In this instance it seems the songs are almost identical to the originals but there's the clicktrack

Sounds like it. If you remember the choreography at that point with the flags and slow steps to the music, they move in sync. The count-in sounds to me like that’s for the choreography rather than the music.
