Even though I'm a veteran DM (started DM'ing around late 1978, early 1979) I feel like your videos so far have been very informative, especially for newer players/DMs. Your explanations for each subject or talking point is easy to understand, offering the right amount of information without getting bogged down with too much detail. Keep up the great work!
Glad I could help man! Part 1 Campaign, Part 2 Mechanics! And if you have any specific questions let me know! Here to help! Welcome to the Dungeon Crew!
I’m absolutely LOVING these videos! As far as suggestions: I see many videos discussing elements of being a DM, but what about a video demonstrating examples of things like narrating a good description of a setting (dungeon room, forest, etc) or what improvising on the fly looks like when the players go off course. I hope you keep more content coming! I love your delivery and you provide great information.
SanDiegoBass Thanks man!! I appreciate it! And I love your ideas! (Wrote then down on my spreadsheet!) I think that would be perfect thing to put in my video (not yet made) on Narration, examples of the right amount Adjustments on the fly to prevent bad situations/ experiences from happening... or just because your players are going off the deep end lol. Great idea too!! Thanks for the comment!
dude, your skill of simplifying things is amazing!! Watering down certain words and rules is hard, but you managed to do it so flawlessly without the cost of their meanings. I struggle because I have learning difficulties, but this video helped so much. I am DMing for the first time soon and this is exactly what I needed. I subscribed
As others have mentioned below, even though I consider myself a "veteren" DM, these videos have been great. Either new ideas I've never heard of or a nice refresher about something I might have forgotten about. And yes...so nice to see the shelves of Shame of scads of unpainted minitautes lol! I have a few of those. Just a few....
Perry Grosshans hahahah those poor miniatures!! And awesome this is one of my earlier videos, but I really feel like it’s one of my best and most efficient for real DM vids
I got you! I used to spend hours and hours making characters that just landed flat a lot of times... but NOW, i spend a fraction of the time and just "go with it" from what I have prepared and they turn out way better. And then for bigger story NPC's you can prep more for them, quirks, voices, flaws, secrets, powers, etc. I'm excited for this video. It is now on the requested list! Thank you!
4 types of dice roles. Wow you have made everything so much simpler for me! Also expansive, if a character wants use Nature to work their way through a forest then why not. If a druid wants to speak with animals and use persuasion, sure. Gets away from having to remember details of a grapple check or whatever and allows players to role play how they want.
Catching up on some of your older stuff I missed. I liked, “Your players are going to come across a lot of things to talk to in this game, and you are all of them!”
Benjamin Harl that was my goal! Make a DM series as short and efficient as possible. I split it into two videos 1. Running the story 2. Running the game Thanks!
Nice collection of chessex speckled dice. I see the Space 7pc and a 34mm d20 in Strawberry and Water...? I wish they would do the Waterlily in the 34mm. I got the whole color package sets & oversized d6’s but I want a d20!
Good follow up video. I think you hit a lot of the major points that are needed. As far as follow up video, consider doing one on magic and how it works both socially and in combat. That one can get confusing.
My first session 0 is Thursday! wish me luck. I'm running Phalndelver, but heavily modified with a different BBEG and custom PCs. Its really tempting to chuch a whole load of homebrew stuff in there, but I think I'll just choose a few - and maybe add some later in the game to solve problems as I see fit. Out of interest do you recommend any homebrew for mounted combat? I feel like a combatant on a horse with open terrain should be pretty formidable, but the rules seem lackluster.
Dom Minniti I useually give the horse a full action economy of its own that the PC can unlock as he trains and gets better at riding ADV for anything he attacks below him But nothing totally flushed out that I have as a full system Gonna write that down and make one now though haha
@@TheDungeonCoach It would be cool if the rules meant that grouped up enemies were much safer. For example giving advantage on melee, or free disengage against enemies not within 5ft of an ally. It would be awesome to chuck some goblin wolf riders into the mix and force players to stick together to not get overrun. The wolves would dash and disengage vs single targets, and the riders would get advantage. Considering how rarely the situation suits it, I would want charging cavalry against single targets to be pretty op.
@@TheDungeonCoach oh, and successful attacks either auto knock prone, or do a shove contest with horses stats. Maybe they only get thr free disengage if they hit their attack?
Aidan Angalia I know right!? I have not made one yet! I make videos based on what my Patrons vote on, so I’m gonna make sure this one is on the list! They vote on options I give them from a list 👌🏼 you’ve made the list!
i set my dc's in roughly 2.5's rounded down 8 is the only exception to this, i just like using 8 more than 7, can't really explain why. So my chart is more 5 8 10 12 15 17 20 so on. I find it gives more nuance than 5's but is also less arbitrary. i guess i use 8 because its when failing with a +6 actually become possible, and that leads back to my "just don't roll a 1"
I was running a game for my 7 year old grandson. I asked him what he wanted to fight. A butterfly T Rex. That's not in the books. I didn't tell him no, i came up with something. He had all the imagination we needed.

That is exactly what I am going for! Thank you so much, that really does mean a lot to hear! Will do!
Agree!
This should have way more views. I’m about to run my first DM session and your videos have been extremely helpful and inspiring. Thank you so much!
Running a campaign for a bunch of my friends, who are all brand new players--and me, their brand new DM. Thank you so much for these videos!

I would love an NPC building video!

Thank you sir. I've been a DM in the past and wish to do it again, and this helps me get back into it.

Jason P Hahahah that is a good line! I forgot about that! I do love those 2 videos though 💜
Crazy to look back still haha thanks dude!
Another excellent video, very concise and comprehensive and useful points!

Oooooo magic in social scenarios! I love it. I have some ideas/ different ways to run magic also, but that’s a whole different direction on magic lol
Anything, I can do to help the channel grow in weird and wonderful directions! ;)
good stuff. subscribed.
BonadanAlloy thanks man! Welcome to the Crew!! Tomorrow’s video is on Character Backstory!

Dom Minniti I love that! If you use it let me know how it goes! Those mechanics definitely give across the right feel!
If you haven't already, We totally need an NPC Vid!!!!!

GunnarWahl yea that “I can’t explain it” thing I totally know what you mean! Sometimes it just feels right!

Pfffft, he said all you need is 3 sets of dice. Muahahaha!
