- For thousands of years donkeys have been used as livestock guards with some success and many challenges. Plase watch this video to learn more about the typical myths about using donkeys as livestock guards that put them at risk for being slaughtered for their skin and meat. This video is to provide some education on the needs of donkeys and how a life as a livestock guard is not always what is best for them.
This video was edited on a MAC using iMovie where the music was obtained from.
The best parts of this video besides all the helpful information are one, the narrator's enthusiasm for the animals and educating the public at large.
Two and most of all, the sincere love and respect she has for these beautiful hardworking animals.

Really missed your videos Victoria. You give out some priceless info. Seriously thinking about about adopting a donkey of my elderly neighbors who’s wife just passed suddenly. That donkey used to bray like crazy when they’d come home. I haven’t heard him in a month now 😢

Love Donkeys. I have a rescue miniature donkey. I housebroke him. It only took 1 time when he was starting to dirty, I took him to the back door & he has never dirtied ever. I have a rescue pony & a rescue miniature horse too. But it sounds like I need to get another donkey. I had 2 other regular size donkeys, but every 8 weeks for their feet to be trimmed, I had to have a Vet sedate them both, which was $200.00 EACH without the cost of the farrier. I SADLY had to get rid of them but they went to really good homes. I had another one too, she was super super old. Now you’re making me think I may need to get another donkey. Makes sense. Hay went up $5.00 a bale. I feed grass to them.

Great video. I have a nice chunk of land in southern Maine, and want to get a pair of donkeys (likely both female) to let them hang out, and because I know I would love spending time with them. Frankly I think both humans and donkeys would find a lot of interaction with one another to be very therapeutic, and as someone who has spent a few too many years in and around the city, I yearn to go back to a FT country-like environment that I grew up in as a young boy.
Looks like you have plenty of friends around there. Better than most of the friends I have 😆
Thanks for advocating for donkeys. Please state the obvious...a grown adult human should not ride a donkey.

Sub zero temperatures are quite normal in the Middle East deserts at night time and it also snows and or sleet.
In the Uk it’s the job of the registered farrier to do routine non surgical dental care on horses.
And sedation is costly and stressful if you are doing it pre farrier Visit.
I am a fan of the donkey and the mule.
Who knows
We may have to return to them one day given the way is turning out.

Wow I was very interested in donkeys. You certainly cured me of that.
You have to be careful though if you have dogs. We adopted a donkey from a rescue for our small hobby farm and she brutally killed my dog. Something to be aware of.
Dogs resemble coyotes. And so we cannot expect donkeys to know the difference between a coyote and a dog. I am sorry that wherever you got your donkey from failed to inform you of that. That’s so tragic. We always share with our adopters the importance of knowing that we cannot expect donkeys to ignore their survival instinct and not react when they see a dog in their territory. Very sorry for what happened to you. 💜💜
