At risk of being a broken record for people who already know this: there's a huge damage bug in the Extended Edition. It affects basically all the units in one way or another, but one of the most affected units are elephants. In EE, the elephant tooltips are unfortunately *completely inaccurate* because of the bug. If you play EE without extra patches, War Elephants (II) are good vs *all* units, and ironically Heavy Infantry turns out to be one of the least-bad options against them (but a War Elephant still wins in a 1v1). The ranged infantry which are supposed to counter them do between ~13% (Light Infantry) and ~30% (Foot Archers) of their intended net damage. The whole Mahout line (elephants in III-V) are similarly good vs basically everything, but at least struggle a bit vs gunpowder infantry (e.g. Arquebusiers). If you play Thrones & Patriots -- or a patched version of EE -- then the tooltips for elephants are accurate: they're good vs Heavy Infantry, weak vs ranged infantry (especially Foot Archers) as you've mentioned.
I'll be honest I had never heard of this before so thank you for sharing. I've pinned your comment instead of my original one so those that aren't in the know are more likely to see it. Also, cool rabbit.
It was difficult to decide how much detail to go into to ensure this was as useful as possible for newer players, I hope the balance is right for you guys! Did I miss anything? Are there any tricks you use to help you memorise the counters in Rise of Nations? I'd love to hear it!
Your content is one of the the best, regarding quality, about Rise of Nations. It helped me a lot in my highly anticipated battle against my friend, who is very good at the game. I lost, but was able to survive much longer than earlier. Please keep it going. Much love from Russia.
Hey Lisorg thank you for the comment, I'm glad to hear you're finding these useful. Winning is fun, but having an even match is what matters most to me.
As someone who loves seas battles. Fire ships are strong against every ship. They do blow themselves up, but they are strong against every ship. They are weak against towers. So you have to build kill boxes with Towers to protect your ships from fire ships.
Thanks for filling in the gaps Super Shadow Kin! I do my best to include everything but I'm not a huge fan of sea battles (because I'm bad at them). Thankfully there are players like yourself who are willing to add or correct me when I'm wrong, which is a good thing for newer players to see.
@@twiglets2 I'm sure its supposed to work the way you said in the video but in my experience. Lights ships still die fast to fire ships. We should play some time. Because I suck at land battles.
@@twiglets2 My reply with a link keeps getting deleted I guess. On steam I'm also SuperShadowKin. With the same profile pic. You'll know its my profile when see all the crazy effects.
In addition to my comment, it could be helpful to hear your general approach in modern ages, as my friends and I are tend to build an economy in early ages and attack each other much later in the game.
That's a great request, the modern ages are sometimes neglected as many games end before you get there! I will make a video on this soon so please keep a look out for it :)
Cool video, thank you! I love this game, It’s been almost 20 years since the first time I played and I keep coming back now and then 😅 do you have a guide about “aggressive strategies”? I never played online, I love playing against 3 or 4 CPU and get a super powerful economy. Sometimes my problem is I focus too much on economy and I don’t protect my cities until later ages, I should play in a more aggressive way but I’m never sure when to attack. So it depends on what AI my neighbours have, if they are aggressive nations they will attack early and screw all my plans
Thank you for your kind words! I do have a few more aggressive guides / build orders, here are some links for you: ua-cam.com/video/O7syJZB2I4k/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/bpc9NzWqH0o/v-deo.html Those two are specifically aggressive but you may find some of the other videos in my playlist are useful too. Thank you sir your content is awesome... Sir I would like to request about the expansion of territory as when I play multiplayer the opponent expands their territory like crazy
Thanks for the kind words Bhavishya! I will do my best to create a useful video on territory expansion, that's an interesting subject so please keep an eye out for the next video! Do you play as a particular nation?
I've played the first Halo Wars, it felt a little basic compared to RoN but I'm a massive Halo fan and it looked amazing, the cut scenes looked like something out of Call of Duty they were awesome! I think there's a Halo Wars 2 I really should give that a go.
